I'm not even sure he attempted one in warm-ups before the game.

World Herald put together an all-decade team: Watson Palmer Petteway Shields Roby Webster Jeter White Copeland Ubel I assume the first 5 names are the first team - I'd agree with those. (EDIT: I see now there is text just under the names in the slide show for first and second teams.) White doesn't belong on 2nd team though - I'd go Talley or Pitchford. Maybe DIaz. Hell, I'd take Spencer over White, if we're going for guys who were here one year. Good find - I learned a lot from that list, including that they play pro basketball in quite a few places I never would have guessed. Good for those guys & hope we have a lot more names to add to the list over the next few years. PS - I do remember Kris Douse (at least the name), but I don't think I could pick him out of a police lineup. Unless the other guys were all 5-11.

Wish the young man the best of luck. Just heard OWH's Mike Sautter on the radio - paraphrasing, but he said DW wanted this coaching staff to re-recruit him and treat him with the same level of attention the previous coaching staff did, and they just weren't willing to do it, as they had bigger roster holes to try to fill & he was already committed. Ultimately, DW just didn't have the relationship he wanted with this staff like he had with Lewis/Miles. After a coaching change, stuff like this happens, unfortunately. Sautter also said DW could have signed in November, but he chose not to. NU was more than willing to take his signature and honor the commitment. He guesses DW will have to play out the HS season whenever he can return and may have to play AAU ball in April as an unsigned senior to prove his knee is sound before bigger programs are willing to give him a commitable offer. If he struggles with the knee, he may have to try prep school. Tough break for DW, but he did have the chance to sign with NU in November. He probably would've been smarter signing with NU, giving it a shot, and if it didn't work out, transferring. But we'll see. Maybe he gets a few nice offers. Waiting till the 2nd signing period sometimes works in favor of the player, as some programs get pretty desperate if they have a bunch of transfers after the season.

Not sure on the bolded - have you seen the size of Rutgers front court? And they're from New Jersey. Just hope none of our guys end up in a rolled up rug at some point during the game.

As already said, great effort, especially considering how things started in the first few minutes and how short the bench was. Hopefully, they're starting to get it regarding how hard you have to play to have any shot of success at this level. Multiple steps forward tonight, even though they didn't get the W. -

Went about how I expected it to go. Our guys were not ready for that level of intensity and atmosphere. Hope they learned something that will benefit down the road, although I can't imagine the next 2 will go any better. Hopefully we take a couple of baby steps in those games, because there weren't any today. At least there's a little hope Friday. After all, Assembly Hall is our PBA East. -

NU opens as an 11.5 pt dog. If we cover that, I'm going to feel pretty good.

Davison looks like a serial killer in that photo ... or like he wishes he hadn't binged on downtown Amigos one last time before it closes next week. By the way, B1G games actually start tomorrow. 11 am - PSU at OSU (BTN) 3:30 pm - Indiana at WIsc (BTN) 4 pm - Illinois at Maryland (ESPN2) EDIT: I stand corrected: B1G game #1 going right now - Iowa at Michigan on FS1

Doc & Fred and quite a few current NU players were spotted at Pius as well last night - not sure if they were there for the ending though.

I think it's mostly that we appear to have zero shot. If we keep it to within single digits, that would be a major accomplishment. Most years, I can convince myself if X-Y-Z happen, we can win, so there's a reason to break down the game. Not this year. Hopefully I'm surprised Saturday - but I think it'd have to be a similar level of surprise to where Publisher's Clearinghouse is standing on my doorstep with a giant check, next to Kate Upton wearing nothing but a bow. With this team, it's not going to be about wins. It's going to be about taking baby steps and hopefully playing better in Jan than Dec and Feb than Jan. Rebounding better in the 1st half vs Ga Tech was a nice baby step, for example. I don't expect baby steps Saturday. Walking into that @#!@@#$ hole Saturday with 12K drunks rooting against them (as they mindlessly clap to NU's fight song before catching themselves) is a significant problem, especially for our team that has little to no experience with D-1 road environments. It simply will not go well. Hopefully they learn something they can use in B1G play later in the season.
