Wow - announcers said NJIT has never even PLAYED a Top 25 team in its history previously ... and they win, 72-70 at #17 Michigan. Looks like Webster's has a new definition of "bad loss."

NJIT leading Michigan by 4 with 2 1/2 to play in Ann Arbor .... seriously.

I like the embarrassment comment from Miles As long as he's here I'll never forget the NU-Purdue game in Lincoln in 2013, where Miles called timeout late because he was embarrassed about people leaving the game early with Purdue comfortably in front. Told the team he never wanted to see it again. And by the next season people are only leaving home games early because the W is in the bag. Not only does Coach Miles not like to be embarrassed, but he tends to make sure his team does something about it. Is it Sunday yet?

I think they'll find the parking at the Devaney Center to be much improved on Sunday...easy in and out Good advice - And there's always a free athletic department shuttle for visiting fans from Devaney to PBA, so all CU fans should park there, easy access from I-80/I-180. Couldn't be more convenient. Just another example of the incredible hospitality the NU athletic dept always shows visitors. Nebraska Nice.

How big of a wake-up call is PBA going to be for the few blue fans who actually get in the door who have been used to going to the Devaney Center most of the past decade? Getting the impression it will be a surly crowd Sunday in red that's ready to release some football-related stress. Keep the blue out ... and for the ones that manage to get in, make them wish they hadn't.

Keep hoping for the best - what a fighter - can't imagine going through something like that with my child

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 6 - Florida State

Ha - yeah, watching the replay now, that one came at about the 8-minute mark & was brutal, because FSU took that supposed non-foul & turned it into a transition 3-pt play on the other end with a very questionable reach-in foul on Rivers. 5-pt swing on 2 very Karl Hess-type calls. That's about the time I started losing my mind during the game. At least till the double-foul at the 4-min mark. And then the 5th foul on Petteway. I think I completely blanked out after that one. We did win, right? EDIT: Just saw the replay on the jump ball call w/ 33 sec left & slowed it down to still frames. Smith has the ball tucked in the crook of his elbow and is clearly signaling timeout. One FSU player appears to have his arms around Smith's neck, two others are trying to jump on the pile & flailing their arms, but none are even close to touching the ball, let alone simultaneous possession. Not Karl, but the same guy who called Petteway's 5th foul. Just amazing. The look on Smith's face after the play is priceless. -

Good call - this will be a really, really good road win by the end of the season. Rathan Mayes was really tough. With the way he can get into the lane, when you have 3 7-footers who know how to cut to the rim and finish, his assist numbers should be huge. Then when you bring back a really good 3-pt shooter, they'll have a good slash & dish offense. Throw a healthy Thomas in there & FSU will be strong. Ojo/#50 is perhaps the biggest man I have ever seen; even if he's not a huge offensive threat, by the time he leans on you for about 10-12 minutes per game, you're worn down when the other interior players are in the game. I understand the negative feelings because of the way the 2nd half played out, but that 10-min stretch to close the 1st half was as good as it gets. Great move by Coach Miles to go zone, even though he said on the post game that they hadn't really worked on it in practice. It worked incredibly well. Of course, Coach Hamilton is really good, too, and his halftime adjustments were a huge key to FSU's comeback. As far as Walt goes, yeah, he struggled, but foul trouble had a lot to do with it, I thought. Just imagine how much trouble we'd have been in if he fouls out with 10 or 11 min to go, so he had to be somewhat tentative. He and Moses' ability just to stay in the game over that last 15+ minutes was huge, especially the way that crew was going. I hope the rest of the Big Ten is happy we took the Karl Hess & crew bullet for the entire league in the challenge ... and we still won! At least I hope he's not doing another B1G-ACC game in an ACC arena. Then again if I'm the ACC, I schedule him for a 6 pm game in an ACC arena tonight and then delay the start for an 8 pm game to make sure I get him there too. Same recipe Wednesday. -

Twice In The Same Season At CenturyLink

golfer3 is pure stealth troll and don't anyone make any mistake about that. Yeah, the "UN-L" stuff gave it away for me. Kinda funny to hear NU being cracked on for playing/scheduling UNO, regardless of where it is, when the blue birds are afraid to schedule them now that the Mavs are D-1. -

To be fair, that new arena is being built for hockey, not basketball, at least at this point. The Mav basketball program is quite a ways away from filling a 8000-9000 seat arena regularly ... even filling 1/2 of it regularly. The first hockey game in there will sell out, no question. But if UNO would like a sellout for the first men's b-ball game at the new arena, having NU as the opponent would do it. So it wouldn't surprise me if Hansen asks, and it wouldn't surprise me if Miles says yes. -
Spot on - the Mavs are all about pushing the pace. Teams that don't take UNO seriously & treat the game like a glorified scrimmage start finding themselves taking bad shots early in the possession and playing at UNO's pace. Then if UNO's guards are hitting, it becomes a challenging contest. UNO struggles against teams that don't get sucked into playing at that fast pace & are willing to make them work on the defensive end. With good ball movement, NU should find the driving lanes open much of the night, need to 'love the rim' Tuesday. After Saturday's results in Milwaukee & Rhode Island, UNO will have NU's full attention. And defense certainly hasn't been NU's problem area to this point (outside of rebounding anyway). Just avoid shooting the quick 3s 12-15 seconds into the shot clock, get back in transition, and NU should win comfortably.

Twice In The Same Season At CenturyLink
throwback replied to golfer3's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
NU-UNO is for this year only, not a home & home. Having said that Coach Miles has a lot of respect for Coach Hansen & knows where Hansen & UNO are at as a program & the challenges at that level -- Miles has been there, done that kind of thing. So if Hansen asks Miles to bring NU to Omaha next season and be the opening game for UNO's new arena, Miles might do it. -

Hammond able to play? Or still suffering from concussion? I believe the OWH said he has been full go in practice recently, although the article didn't specifically say he had played in the scrimmage. I would imagine he did play though.

When I read that quote in the newspaper this morning, it made me laugh - classic Miles. All this great news on the recruiting front is tough to get used to ... but I think I can do it.
-
Agreed - Nebraska's success is the key - in the long run, the other programs are just window dressing. When NU is good, everyone else in the state will be taking a back seat, just as it was in the early 90s. Somewhat related to this topic - Interesting spread in the OWH yesterday, as UNO's new on-campus (sort of) arena will be open for 2015-16 basketball/hockey seasons. That obviously will be great for UNO's men's basketball, a big step up from Ralston Arena. Also should be interesting to see how Century Link losing UNO hockey will affect the arena's finances. I'm sure some of those renting suites at C-Link were there for UNO hockey and had no interest in anything else going on there, and therefore will be taking their dollars to the new UNO arena. Not a lot, but some. If the arena's lone remaining primary tenant puts together a stinker of 2014-15 season, it'll be interesting to see whether the arena can replace any suite holders it may lose when UNO hockey leaves before the 2015-16 season. I would imagine they can, but who knows? Fans can be fickle, especially when NU hoops is going strong just down I-80. And it'll be interesting to see how the C-Link handles the rent for its remaining primary tenant. C-Link almost certainly will have to try to make up for some of the lost UNO hockey income, especially because it has been my understanding that UNO hockey had a really bad deal with C-Link from a financial standpoint, so the loss of Mavs hockey would appear to be doubly tough for the C-Link to withstand - losing both the general revenue from hockey, as well as losing a favorable financial deal.

Miles/Nebrasketball Presser - 10-02-2014
throwback replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Thanks for putting all this together - lots of good info. The best thing you can hear with a team that is coming off a season of great success with the majority of players returning is that they are even hungrier and want to accomplish more. You don't want them to be coasting in the off-season, relying on past success to carry them through (cough, 2014 Fla St football, cough). Regarding Hammond I'm sure they'll pick & choose their spots where he can have success early in the season, keep his confidence high. I like his talent level. And Smith sounds like quite a recruiting coup - everyone sounds really high on him - Miles & staff's ability to spot talent that others overlook is pretty impressive ... and they're also now showing the ability to go out & get Top 100 kids as well. Great news for the future. Focusing on now though, when I see things like NU picked in the top 4 of the B1G, or NU picked preseason Top 25, and hear this brimming confidence and optimism out of players, I have to shake my head. It almost seems surreal. But I'm with Miles - you can never win too much or too soon in a coaching career. It's a good problem to have.
