That problem should be solved when Blaise Keita arrives next year. In fact, with Keita, Andre, and a red-shirted Kojenets next year, our rebounding may go from a negative to a positive. Is that when the 30 point victories start coming???

I am still on an emotional high as I consider all the new talent that is joining our team this year. I am 69 years old and have followed Husker basketball for most of my life. I enjoyed the Danny Nee years and didn't realize that it would be 40 years before we had the talent to challenge for a conference title. All I had was 'hope' that somehow, someway things would change. 'Thank You' Lincoln for building the Pinnacle and 'thank you' Moos for hiring Hoiberg and Matt. I think this incoming group of players can become the 'core' or 'nucleus' of a team capable of finishing in the top 1/3 of the conference. We need to add another recruiting class of 3-5 players similar in quality to this year's class of recruits and transfers (I like the list of visitors coming in June). Anyway, the only point I am trying to make is that for a long-time fan, I think 'hope' has finally arrived. ON PAPER, we have real reasons to be optimistic about our future. Add another quality recruiting class to this one and 'hope' might become 'reality.' I'm pumped up and haven't felt this good in a long time.

Winners and Losers after recruiting/transfers
75unlgrad replied to 75unlgrad's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Thanks for all the work. This helps as we try to figure out where we stand in the BIG 10. -
Do we know if his high school was playing this season -- the coronavirus canceled a lot of games this year. If his high school didn't have a season, I could see why he would re-classify and join Depaul at the semester. I think this is why Witt considered joining us at the semester.

Winners and Losers after recruiting/transfers
75unlgrad replied to 75unlgrad's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Agree totally. -
Does anyone have an idea how the other BIG 10 schools did with recruiting, transfers in and transfers out? How does Nebraska compare?
-
Great explanation. I agree with what you said (even though it's several levels above my knowledge and understanding of the game). I still think in the traditional mode of five specific roles to filled -- point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. I think we are agreeing that Edwards should be an upgrade at a position that we lost two players -- Teddy and Thorin. Again, great explanation.
-
One more reason for optimism with the addition of Keon Edwards. I think Edwards fills the void left with the departure of Teddy Allen and Thorin. Teddy and Thorin mostly played the small forward position. Without them, we really didn't have anyone on our current roster that adequately filled this spot. Now with Keon Edwards, I think (hope) we more than filled this spot -- we significantly upgraded this position. I think he will prove to be a much better offensive threat than Thor and a much better defensive player than Teddy. GBR!!!

I see this recruiting class as: Two 5-Star players -- McGowens and Edwards Two 4-Star players -- Breidenbach and Wilcher Two 3-Star player -- Kojenets and Tominaga Plus -- a verbal commitment from one of the top juco centers that will join this class in 2022-23 (Blaise Keita is 6'10" and 240 lbs.) Obviously, I believe it to be the best recruiting class in UNL history. Now, IF we can have another successful recruiting class come in 2022-23, we will be 10 deep with talent at every position (we need a point guard in this class). IF THAT HAPPENS -- WOW!!! Nothing will seem 'out of reach' -- Dancing, Sweet 16, and dare I say it -- Yes, maybe FINAL 4!!! Let's Go Huskers!!!

I am optimistic that C.J. will be a starter by the time conference games begin. He was considered on of the top perimeter shooters coming out of high school. He appears to be the type of player that fits into Fred's system.
-
I believe all these players will have 'freshman' eligibility status this coming season: *EDUARDO ANDRE 6'10" 225 lbs. Center (3-star) Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'10" 210 lbs. Power forward (4-star) *KEON EDWARDS 6'7" 175 lbs. Shooting guard/perimeter (4-star) -- if we get him Oleg Kojenets 7'0" 220 lbs. Center (3-star) Bryce McGowens 6'5" 200 lbs. Shooting guard/perimeter (5-star) *C.J. WILCHER 6'4" 195 lbs. Shooting guard/perimeter (4-star) * Players in 'ALL CAPITAL LETTERS' should have an extra year of eligibility if they want it. We have a commit for 2022-23 from Blaise Keita that is a 6'10" center weighting 240 lbs. He is considered one of the top juco centers. (He was recruited by Baylor so that says something about his ability.) When he comes in 2022-23, we could have 7 sophomores on our roster. I doubt that we have ever had a better -- and deeper -- recruiting class. It looks like Fred and Matt are putting a lot of talent together. They could take us on a fun ride. GBR!!!
-
Looks like a good hire. An excellent coach with NBA history that is most noted for 'player development.' With all the first and second year players on our roster, this looks like the 'right guy for the job.

I'm with you. We are on the cusp of a new era in NEBRASKABALL. If Matty A. and Fred do bring in CJ Wilcher (sophomore in eligibility), a true point guard, and a senior transfer quality big man -- let the good times begin!!! We might be dancing next year. In 2022-2023, we have the best juco center committed to us (6'10" Blaise Keita), and I am hopeful that we can add two Nebraska kids in Isaac Traudt and Jason Green. The big 'IF' -- 'IF' Matty A. and Fred can get three or more quality transfers for next year. And 'IF' we can add Traudt and Green along with Keita to our 2022-23 recruiting class. The cubbard will be full of talent the like we have not seen in 40 years. It will be a new era in Nebraskaball. We'll start to know the answers within a few short weeks. My fingers are crossed (and so are my toes). Go get them Matty!!!
-
Each year, we are 'over-recruiting' the talent level of the previous class (each year we are bringing in better players than we did the year before).
-
Looking ahead -- and drinking the Kool Aid -- I think the scholarship distribution might look like this: Juniors: Eduardo Andre Keisei Tominaga Elijah Wood (if he is still on the team -- if not, a transfer player) Sophomores: Wilhelm Breidenbach Blaise Keita Bryce McGowens Freshmen: Jason Green (I hope) Isaac Traudt (I hope) Point Guard (I hope) I don't know how many seniors will be on the roster. Maybe Trey McGowens wants to stay and play with his brother another year. That would be OK with me because Trey is one of our best perimeter defenders. Maybe Yvan Ouedraogo stays for his senior year but he would be our 3rd choice at the center position. Maybe Delano Banton stays but I doubt it. I do look for a few transfers/juco's to fill some spots. Looking to 2022-23, I hope we can land the two Nebraska kids in Jason Green and Isaac Traudt. I would like to see a point guard in this class also. But as I look to the future, it seems that Fred will build his team with freshmen as the nucleus and transfers/juco's filling in the holes. It also looks like we can usually expect three freshmen recruits each year. I would be very happy with that.
-
Will we get Traudt to commit ?? Keita at the 5 Breidenbach at the 4 Traudt at the 3 ?? McGowens (Bryce) at the 2 ?? at the point This has the look of a great core group. The future is getting brighter. Go Fred!! Go Matt!! GBR!!!
-
I welcome the turnover in personnel. We don't have enough of the 'type' of players Fred needs to run his offense. We need 3 or 4 pure shooters that can hit the 3 with consistency. We need a true post player that can rebound, defend the rim, and score in the paint. In the current group of players, there are several players that Fred can build with -- but none of them are 'cornerstone' pieces. I think Trey McGowens, Lat Mayen, Derrick Walker, and Delano Banton are keepers -- the rest of the roster may change. Next year, Keisei Tominaga, Bryce McGowens, and Wilheim Breidenbach should improve our 3-point shooting. I look for Fred (and Matt) to bring in at least one or two more perimeter players and a 'big.'
-
I predict these players will not be on the team next season: Akol Arop Elijah Woods Teddy Allen Shamiel Stevenson We will add at least two transfers this spring. We will have one/two open scholarships.
-
Why not Dream Big?? It's a lot more fun. We got Fred and Matt -- we got a chance. What IF we brought in 2 or 3 players each year the caliber of Bryce and Wilhelm. Long suffering Huskers take heart -- we could become a 'Kansas' type basketball team. Drink double shots of the kool aid and Go Big Red!!!

I think years 1 and 2 were strictly survival mode (take who you can get) and year 3 is when we see the type of future players that Fred and Matt will bring in. Bryce McGowens and Wilhelm Breidenbach are great foundational pieces (and I don't think recruiting for next year is over -- I expect one or two more new recruits). We also add Keisel Tominaga (Japan's Steph Curry). We have quality pieces like Delana Banton and Trey McGowens. Maybe Lat Mayen IF he gets his confidence up and Teddy Allen IF he plays within the system. We will find out about Derrick Walker and Eduardo Andre as this season plays out. But again, I believe (hope) year 3 is the beginning of our future Husker basketball team. Each year we add two or three players the same quality as Bryce and Wilhelm. I think the 'core' of our future teams arrive next year.
