I just wondered because I had seen an article a few days ago with projected starters and they had Natalie in instead of Maddie.
-
Is Maddie Simon starting instead of Romeo?
-
How much is the parking pass and where do you park with it?
-
Received mine today as well.

I really think Maddie sort of flew under the radar when it came to recruiting. She played multiple sports during her youth and HS and didn't focus solely on basketball prior to college, so that could be part of the reason why. She isn't afraid to do the work to improve her game. The club team she played on was very well coached and was a solid team.

I agree about Jess being more than a post player. I first saw her play when she was in 4th grade. I walked into the gym and saw this girl absolutely schooling everyone on the court, even older players. I saw her playing point guard fairly regularly when she was younger. She always had a huge smile on her face when she was playing or practicing. It was obvious she loved the game. Some kids around that age you can tell that their parents are really pushing them and they maybe don't really want to be there but are doing it for their parents, but not Jess. I watched her play through junior high and HS. She has very very good ball handling skills, especially when you consider her height. Almost like a Delle Donne type, but I don't want to say she is Delle Donne because nobody is Delle Donne but Delle Donne. But in the sense that she has a variety of skills and can help out in all positions on the court. There aren't many players like that with a combination of height and size (not a bean pole) and those skills. She will be a very special player for us and I pray she stays healthy. I think Maddie Simon is a bit under-rated. She will need to adjust to the college game, but once she does she will be a solid contributer. She is another girl I have seen play since she was in 4th grade. She always stood out to me, and she is extremely athletic and could have also played soccer in college or she could have been a track athlete (maybe even golf?). She has a good basketball IQ. She was very hampered with injury her senior year in HS, but it sounds like she is fully recovered now.

So what you are saying is that she is a consistently good 3 point shooter, among other things. Not sure we have had a consistent 3 point threat from anyone for a while except for Hooper. We have had some streaky shooters, and I think Romeo can become more consistent from the 3, and Theriot can usually hit from just about anywhere it seems like, but Clark will be solid. I'm liking the sound of that. Sometimes when you have one player that is knocking them down, it becomes contagious. I'm liking the sound of that A LOT.

I really think we could be a nightmare for other teams in the sense that who do they guard closely? They are going to have to guard EVERYONE and not double-team like we have had in recent years. I also think that there won't be a big drop-off when subbing, at least not once everyone gets some experience under their belt.

What I also heard was that this was an injury that they knew she had for some time due to playing tennis. Wondering if this was ever disclosed in the recruiting process. Thinking we dodged more than one bullet when we cut ties with the Page family. My daughter is going through the recruiting process right now for track and field, and we have been very open and honest about a nagging injury that she has had. I would hope other people are also open and honest during their recruitment.

I had heard that Lanie is out for the season with a torn labrum.

Just eyeballing it and not counting exhibition, I think 21-8. Perhaps I'm too optimistic. I'm going on the assumption we have people healthy and Shepard will be able to play immediately. I broke it down to 9-2 out of conference and 12-6 in conference. I'm also assuming we will get stronger as the season progresses. Off the top of my head, I've got Shepard, Havers, Blackburn, and Washington getting significant minutes. Also Theriot, Romeo, Clark, Cincore, Simon with significant minutes. I'm hoping Theriot gets decent rest in games so that she can play the whole season injury free. Would like to see Wood and Ramacieri getting some minutes, especially if Wood gets hot from 3 point land. Would also love to see Kalenta and Ostrander, but I have my doubts since I haven't heard anything about Kalenta in the media and I know Ostrander won't join until after VB. As of right now, I'm not missing the Page sisters, and I had kind of forgotten that Chandler had left the team. Wish Chandler the best.

I didn't realize Esther was going to be out for some time. Hopefully Cincore will be back mid-November if I'm reading the article correctly. Noticed Yori made no mention of Kalenta, or at least the paper didn't report that she did. I know we lost a lot from last year, but I feel pretty good going into this season. The future is bright.

Interesting from article: Training Errors: Training errors may be one of the greatest contributors to this injury. A change in training such as increasing the frequency, intensity, or duration too quickly may contribute. What has been termed the “terrible too’s” of too much, too often, too soon, and too fast over stress the bone before it can appropriately react to the stress by reinforcing itself by new bone growth and increased density. Increased forces into the bones of the foot and leg have been found to be generated in the presence of fatigue. In other words, you are likely to be at higher risk if you often run to the point of fatigue or exhaustion. The muscles are tired and can not properly position the bones, slow the forces, or attenuate the forces in any of several ways that normally functioning muscles may do. “...avoid doing too much too soon.” Equipment Errors: An improper match of foot type and structure to shoe may contribute to a chronic repetitive stress injury to bone (stress fracture, stress reaction). Old shoes, worn out shoes, shoes that look bad even to the person wearing them are obvious contributors to injuries of all sorts. Running on a hard and unyielding surface may increase forces into the bones of the foot and leg. Those who have suffered this injury should obviously avoid running on concrete. Other Factors: It is important to keep in mind other contributing factors in the development of RSI of bone. In addition to the training errors and the biomechanical causes we often think of first, a variety of systemic conditions can contribute to this injury. These conditions include osteopenia, osteoporosis, other metabolic bone disorder, hormonal abnormalities, inadequate nutritional intake, and collagen disorders. In women amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea may lead to deficient estrogen and low bone mineral density. The female athlete triad includes low bone density by definition along with disordered eating and amenorrhea.(Lebrun 2007) Overtraining may lead to decreased testosterone levels in men resulting in osteopenia. Patients of either gender having multiple stress fractures should likely have a bone density (DEXA) scan performed.

Unless Coach Stephens is wearing heels or something is going on with the photography, Kathleen is not 5'9" as listed Those eyebrows aren't real are they? I was wondering the same thing.

Love Esther's interpretive dancing skills.
-
I know that Grace Barry committed to UNK within the past few weeks.
-
I suppose they could hire a certain Pelini...
-
Cornhusker Shooting Stars hires Divilbiss as their new director of player development. They also hire Lindsey Moore as assistant director of player development.
-
The ick factor is high with this one. Knew the girl in elementary school. My concern is that he will walk away from this because technically he was no longer her coach when he decided to be handsy with her.
-
BTW, it is nice to have players show up in shape and ready to go.
-
The original post excluded Shepard, Theriot, and Clark as starters (sort of a worst case scenario, that none would be ready to go immediately). Has Clark been able to practice at all? If not, I would give the nod to Cincore to start the season, because she has been here for a year and knows the system better. Once Clark is healed and up to speed with the system, things may change. It's a good problem to have. We should get solid minutes from the bench for all positions this year. Theriot should even be able to take a breather now and then. Anyone know how Kalenta is doing?

Birds of a feather...

I'm sure we will have some clunky games/moments due to our youth. What I hope to see is improvement as the season progresses. These kids will be pretty darn good with some experience, it's just a matter of how fast they will get there. I think in the end we will look back and say the recruiting class with Cady, Sample, Jeffry and Laudermill was very special, but this group of kids was even better. This team will definitely have a different look to them compared to last year's team. Much needed depth and experience for all since they are young. I do feel the minutes piled up on several of our players last year, and they also could not afford any foul trouble.
