Should Nick Fuller's role change?
Navin R. Johnson replied to big red22's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's funny, but when you mention Fuller and Creighton I envisioned when Fuller signed as a Frosh that he would be the type of player that would come down on the break and hit the 3 and be able to use his size if they put a guard on him and go into the paint. (kind of like the way Creighton plays) I thought he had the reputation as a shooter out of high school but now seems to be more of an inside/short jumper type. -
I'm excited also about this group, but now the stars mean nothing. If they all develop like Shavon Shields, a non-150 list player, we are going to be in great shape! Now the work begins to mold these guys into a cohesive unit that plays hard, smart basketball. I think Coach Miles and his staff will do that. Can't wait!

AW-III IS BACK FOR HIS SENIOR SEASON (SOMEWHERE)
Navin R. Johnson replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
In White's situation I can certainly see the advantage in working for as many teams as possible to get your name out there even if he does not go to the NBA this year. One thing I really hope he considers is that this may be his last chance to be the go to guy on a basketball team in which a great deal of the action will center around him and he will play major minutes. They said in the article that he is marketing himself as a shooter off the bench type which he probably will be if he makes the league. The thing about that is it is a game by game situation in which he may not play very much at all at times. Granted the paycheck would be there, which is huge, but a number of athletes would love to be in his shoes as a Senior for Nebraska this year. Plus he can start his graduate work which will give him a leg up if he does not make in professional ball. Of course he seems like a smart cookie and I'm sure he has thought about all his options. -

Norfolk' s head basketball coach Ben Ries did resign to take the AD position. -
Understand I like to know the inside poop as much as anyone and being a fan I think they owe that to us up to a point, but with that being said I think the message board thing might be getting a little out of hand at times. I think there are things that we just don't need to know and might be better off if we did not. Social Media has changed things, but not necessarily for the better. If you think of it in context of your job, there is stuff, truth or not, that you might not want floating around. There could be some fond memories of our favorite athletes tarnished if we had this technology years ago.

It could also come down to the position schools want him to play. Off tackle vs Tight End and possibly a 4 vs a 5 in basketball. -

He has been getting higher level looks for football as far as BCS schools go, of course it's a little different comparing 13 scholarships for basketball teams compared to 65 or what ever it is for football but I'm guessing a lot will depend on this summer's tournaments and camps. From what I hear he likes basketball a little more but I think he could play either sport. It just depends on the offers he receives. I think if NU offers in basketball he would be a Husker. (IMO) -

On the other hand, maybe Link signs his LOI and Jordy doesn't? We zig and he zags? So now it is Gonzaga? -

"Don't bring me down" was by ELO. "Don't let me down" was by the Beatles. Both are appropriate! Sorry Bug, could not resist. -
A Little OT, HS Transfers
Navin R. Johnson replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That is kind why I brought this topic up. I wanted to see what you guys think about high school kids transferring to other schools. I agree that the school pride thing seems to be lost with many kids. -

Arop is the only one of South's top seven that is back. -
Maybe a little off topic, but has anyone heard rumors (or fact) about any high school transfers in Nebraska? Rumors are that Arop might get some new teammates at Omaha South coming from other Omaha schools.
-
Not sure if there are any offers but he is a strong athletic kid. He might be a bit of a tweener as a college player. (A center in a forward' s body.) A very good high school basketball player.
-
There very little scouting and almost zero game prep in AAU ball and at times very little defense. It is easier to play against teams that don't prep for you and try to take away what you do best.
-
You're saying that AAU is an easier game to play than regular A/B high school basketball? Yes, in most cases.
-

Steve Kerr is a very smart man! Could not agree more. Still amazing college coaches put such an emphases on AAU ball when they evaluate an athlete. I know a big part is the period that they are allowed contact with the players is during the AAU season but it is making the game worse in my opinion.
