On this roster? We don't have a PG. Kobe seems like he could be, just based on the eyeball test of being able to dribble under pressure. But he really doesn't seem like a great passer to me, so you're losing out on those handful of great passes that Banton makes. After that we have a bunch of guys that are good ball handlers, but not good enough to be a floor general. And no one else that seems to have even average vision for setting up teammates. -

I miss Cam. Not the headcase/locker room problem side of him, but the dude that could show up and distribute. That side of him sure would be nice to have around. It's unfortunate that they were two sides of the same guy. -
Dalano confuses me. On this year's team, he does seem to be the best option we have to start at the 1. And I know Fred likes positionless basketball, non-traditional PGs, etc etc etc (cue 'King and I' voice). But I just cannot for the life of me figure out who Dalano is on offense and how he fits long-term. He will be good for 1-2 passes per game that only he can make due to his length and vision at the top of the key. But once he starts moving with the ball...yikes. Accuracy on his passing drops like a rock. And he isn't the greatest finisher at the rim, nor a good free throw shooter. And we already knew he wasn't a good 3pt shooter. I'm not advocating chasing the kid off. He has enough raw tools to keep him an intriguing prospect all the way until his eligibility expires. But man...I thought we would get more from him this year.

Not bad officiating. They did let Cockburn get away with murder in the paint, but that is somewhat to be expected. He easily could have been in foul trouble. I think the way the officiating occurred was consistent, but benefited Illinois. Easily could have benefited us instead and still been fair. -

It had been a long time since I last thought "ya know, if we had gotten the officiating edge instead of the other guys, I think we would've won." So there's progress. -

Gotta stop chasing off our most talented player each year if we want to progress at all. Obviously Cam had his off-court issues, and Teddy too. But a team full of Thors and Arops is not going to win any games.
-
OK, how about Tom Allen then? He's putting up 39% from three and 80% FT in the ACC. Not as good as I would have expected, but still would be an adrenaline shot for our anemic offense.

Yeah Horne is the guy that most felt like "the one that got away." Jordy too, but he seemed unhappy here so his transfer felt more inevitable. Those are the two players off the list that, from a skillset perspective, felt like a sucker punch to lose. Which is why I looked them both up and found that...yep...they both are contributing for a team that is a whole lot better than we are.

Film study should just be the first 10 minutes of offensive possessions on repeat. The team knows what they are doing wrong. It's brutally obvious. I'm not sure they know what they are doing well. -
Jordy is starting and averaging 8 boards/7 pts for a pretty good Dayton team. Horne has averaged double digit PPG in all three seasons since transferring out. He's shooting 45% from 3pt range and 94% FTs this year for a Colorado team that is in the hunt to win the PAC12. Some of the other guys haven't panned out quite yet at their new schools, but at least had a skillset that could be developed over time to *potentially* be a quality player down the road. I'm not going to pull statistics on all of them, but I'd assume at least one or two are contributing enough to make us wish they were on our current roster.

I agree with your list, sans Kevin Cross. I said it at the time of transfer and will say it again -- his baseline skillset was poor enough that he really had no chance at developing into a solid B1G player. He is averaging 33% from the floor overall and 18% on 3pt shots this year for Tulane. And still is averaging less than 5 rebounds per game. He is too small to rebound and defend the post, and not skilled enough to play on the wing.

This one is tough since we don't know which players are still not cleared to play. Plus the layoff is obviously a huge variable. But this is Nebrasketball, which means when in doubt...assume the worst. MSU 75 Nebraska 55 2 -

This is a very good point. For an example from the other end of the spectrum, I read an article where a mom was going bananas blaming a school's mask mandate for her kid passing out. News flash lady: kids passed out in years prior to 2020, too. A kid passing out does not necessarily mean it was caused by a mask. An athlete being found to have a rare heart condition does not necessarily mean it was caused by COVID. These are things that happened prior to the pandemic too. Now if we find a statistically significant uptick in these rare occurrences, then we are starting to talk about correlation. And that is certainly on the track to being able to determine causation. -
I like those jerseys. They remind me of those awesome black/blue/orange Mark Price Era Cavs uniforms.
