We are going to get destroyed if we don't start stopping this team. Right now, Iowa is doing anything they want to do on offense. -

Might need to bring in the defensive line-up. -
I'm guessing it was a match-up thing.

Now, the part that really ticks me off, is that these refs are not held accountable. The ref that displayed poor sportsmanship when he "boomed" Shields this year, is still able to ref games. The League office has to look at the choke hold, and explain to fans and media why nothing was done about that. It gets frustrating when you see our guys take the ball to the rim, and we can't get a call to save our souls. It would be different if the refs weren't calling hand checks on us.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 26 - Maryland
brfrad replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Any other day, I'd say it's the number of fouls given up to lead to those free throws, but from the sounds of it, Maryland has found a way to get to the line a lot this season (being #2 in the nation for made free throws and all). Hopefully we can get better on that part of the game; that's an area we've been lacking this year. That was going to be the challenge...they don't foul much on D and they draw a lot of contact. You can see why Trimble has drawn so many fouls...he's lightning fast and can shoot so you can't back off him. They don't get called for many fouls on D. -
To be fair, it's not like the ref was watching... oh wait. Yes he was. Seriously, if that was our player holding another player in a headlock...they would have went to the video and teed us up!!! And headed him to the showers. And suspend him for the rest of the season.
-
They showed the replay because the refs STOPPED the game to WARN Miles. They didn't show later in the possession when Fuller boxed the same player out, and the Maryland player jumped on FULLER's back, still NO CALL!!
-
Another call I had a hard time understanding, the Maryland guy was on the post, dribbled the ball, gets hacked at, and they give him two free throws. Did Miles explain the technical?

Lots of good tonight: 10 offensive rebounds for us. 1 for Maryland. Shot 44 % from the floor. Shot 53 % from guys other than Petteway. Petteway had 9 assists to only 2 turnovers despite a poor shooting night. Scored 65 points. Our 2nd best total on the road this season. Although, I'm not sold on Maryland's defense. Some bad tonight: We lost. Maryland shot 45 % from the floor. Tai struggled. -
Isn't that a flagrant one? Heck, shouldn't the refs go to the monitor to look at it. They went to the monitor because they had no clue who the technical foul should have been on. What frustrates me the most is the fact we can't buy a call going to the rim. People say you can't settle for jump shots. Well, we can't get A CALL at the rim. The fact that we would only be in the double bonus 37 minutes into the game because Maryland had 10 fouls for the game up to THAT POINT!!

It's one thing to get killed on the boards to Michigan State, it's another to get killed to Purdue. -

We are bad. We actually scored in the 50's, and we can't rebound. We play good defense until we box out. -

It is not our night when the guy misses it so badly that it goes under the basket, right to the Purdue guy. -

Just asked the same thing to crew here. That should be traveling IF the game was called as the rulebook states it. yeah IF THE GAME WAS TO BE CALLED AS THE RULEBOOK STATES. Tells you everything we as fans need to know. If you are going to call the game differently than we understand please tell us the new rules so we won't get all bent out of shape about calls and then the crowd might not comes so unglued and have to be protected as you leave the court. And this guy doing the color, who is he? he is trying why to hard to be cute rather than telling us something. This color guy is god awful. -

Since when can you throw the ball to yourself? -
I'd be happy with 1 or 2.

They were not the reason we lost. However, they were bad. It started with the charge on Terran in the first half. Frank bumped him three times on the way to the hoop, then the Wisconsin player was late to take the charge. Benny's no call on his lay-up was awful. You know the refs blew the call when half the Nebraska bench ran onto the floor, and the ref didn't give them a tech. The foul on Tai was a bad call when he trapped Koening in the corner. Wisconsin did that all night against us and the refs swallowed the whistle. The final play was when Kaminsky grabs the ball falls down after Shields tied him up. The ref 5 feet away with a great angle called a travel. The ref from 45 feet away overruled him, and called Shields for a foul.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 24 - Wisconsin

Need to find ways to get easy baskets in the first half of games. We can't launch 3's or drive to the hoop and throw up acrobatic shots hoping to get fouled. We have to press a little, crash the boards some. We may give up easy baskets on the other end, but we have to do something to score more than 13 points in a half. Defense was good again. Wisconsin is a very good offensive team, but struggled to get open looks most of the night. Some of their early success was after we played good defense they happened to find someone down low. Man, how can we never get any home cooking? 31 to 10 in foul shots. (10 of those Ft's were down the stretch for Wis) It's not as if we settled for jump shots. We took the ball to the hoop, and got nothing called against Wisconsin. -
Now that Would be nice! But it seems to me lack of Defense is not our problem! Yeah, but it can get us easy baskets. On the flip side, it can give the other team easy baskets. Miles made a good point, though in his post game radio interview. He said someone asked him why they didn't press more in the first half. He said that you have to make baskets. Maybe, also try to crash the boards once in a while and try to get an easy basket. This team struggles in the half court. Need to find ways to steal points.
