I will be pleasantly surprised if he ends up being as solid as Tarin was as a freshman. Hope you're right but I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about this signing. Right about what? I don't know much about this kid. I just don't think it would be hard to be as good a player as Smith was. Most permiter Big ten recruits should be better than him IMO. You say that, but we've brought in Vooch, Hawkins, Fuller, Hammond and Parker, and none of them were particularly impressive as freshmen. I'd say Smith easily flashed more talent than everyone on that list. I really don't think you just snap your fingers and bring in more talented players than Smith. Is it impossible? Of course not. But it's far from a given.EDIT: I noticed you said perimeter recruits. I'm too lazy to change my post, but the point still stands.

Anyone concerned with Evelyn's lack of quickness and athleticism? I like that he has combo guard skills, but I worry if he doesn't have the rest of the athletic tools for the B1G. He kinda reminds me of Hawkins in that regard.

He really didn't have much more to gain by coming back for his senior season. Plus, his mom got to see his final game as a collegiate. I remember Jordan saying that was one of the reasons he retired the first time was because he wanted his dad to have seen his final game.

Maybe sour grapes? T. Smith could play a bit. Every play-by-play guy raved about his potential as well. If he's not mature enough to except a role for his team then good bye, but he could play a bit. Yeah, I agree. I really liked Tarin's game and was disappointed to see him go. If Evelyn can bring a similar amount of athleticism I'll be happy. I wish Evelyn had Tarin's athleticism.

Smith's really getting underrated by some. He wasn't going to be an all-B1G player or anything, but he has the potential to be a solid starter. I wish he played a little more at Tai's and Benny's expense last year.

The big schools stopped recruiting/looking at him for a reason. I doubt they simply forgot about him. So, did he not develop as expected? Too much time off the court?

I know we need bigs, but we need good players. If he's a good player, I'll be thrilled because we lacked quality depth last season.
