Ohio State doesn't even know what "rock bottom" is...

For what it's worth, through 20 games Hoiberg has had 5, 9, and 7-game losing streaks the last 3 seasons. His current losing streak is 3 this season. Injuries don't help, but we're at least splitting some weeks with wins, which is something we didn't have much success in prior years.

We beat the spread on Tuesday's game! Pretty wild. Can't believe nobody commented during the game!

Along a similar vein, and even with more recent teams, I remember thinking "When I look at our guys, then compare them across the league, do I really have a strong feeling that shot is going in?" And if my memory serves me right, it wasn't all that strong of confidence. In hindsight, I sure wish we had some of those guys to provide some consistency in shooting for this team.

I'd be fine if this was even a Year 2 team. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. One thing that's for sure, I don't think this staff can afford another "Year 1".

Can we add Nate Oats to the list of "coaches we want but we're not going to get"? He's 4-2 against ranked teams (W: #12, #1, #1, #21; L: #20, #15) and 7-0 in the SEC right now. He was at the top of my list last time we were talking about vacancies and he's continued on an upward trajectory since then.

I don't know why we don't recruit girlfriends and older brothers to our varsity programs more often...it's worked so well for us and Kansas State in the recent past!

During the Michigan State / Rutgers broadcast they had a graphic up that showed the "Top 10 Big Ten Standings" and, yet again, we couldn't escape being at the very bottom of the standings on that graphic

Hard to be at rock bottom if you're not even at the bottom of your conference. There's a whole lot more room to go.

This season has been really odd from a "Do we have it? / Are we meeting expectations?" perspective. Preseason: "Yeah, but will our team gel?" After the season started: "Yeah, but can we beat all our cupcakes?" Going into the early season tournament: "Yeah, but can we get a win?" Big Ten/ACC Challenge: "Yeah, but can we win that game in the challenge?" In-state game: "Yeah, but can we beat Creighton? On the road? Three ranked opponents in a row: "Yeah, but can we compete?" Home conference game: "Yeah, but can we win this home Iowa conference game?" Away conference game: "Yeah, but can we defeat Minnesota on the road?" Defeat Ohio State without Gary: "Yeah, but Ohio State didn't play well." And now we're sitting here at 10-9 (3-5), above 0.500 overall. It's almost February, we're out of the bottom four right now, and there's still "hope" in this team that usually gets deflated by late December/early January. We've already matched Hoiberg's best win total with 12 more regular season games remaining and one win away from tying Hoiberg's best conference win total. We're putting up all our walls on why this team isn't something, when time and time again (in ugly ways many times) shown that they can at least compete. I'm not saying this is the pinnacle/best team we've seen even in the last ten years, but there's still room for this team to compete. We have our guard up because we don't want this program to hurt us again. But sometimes you just have to take a risk and believe.
