I found it surprising that according to either OMW or LJS, we have the most NIT appearances than any Big Ten team.

Indiana completely forfeited a home game and gave it to Georgia Tech last year.

I remember when we had the Big 12/Pac-10 challenge, but they did away with that. The Pac-12 no longer has any crossover challenges anymore. I don't think anybody wants to touch that conference.

What I get from this is that we should get rid of PBA, schedule all neutral non-conference games, sign a contract where we get a large margin of ticket sales, and rack in all those Quadrant 1 games.

I had to reread the comments in this thread to be sure, but nobody mentioned vast improvements or expecting to be ranked next year. (But maybe you're pulling that from the vibes across the entire board?) I think the key is continuity. It's something we've been lacking for over a decade.

Yeah that's hard to swallow. The Pac-12 was the worst power conference once again this year, but USC did make a solid case to be in the tournament. Once I found out USC didn't make it in, it made me think that we may have needed to make the Big Ten championship game and even then that may not have been enough.

The NIT last year worked wonders for TCU for this year. But you could also say the exact opposite for Georgia Tech.

Now that's terrifying to think about.

It's also hard to accept that we are one of three teams out of 300+ not to make the tournament. And the only Big Ten team ever to not make the tournament with 13+ wins. It's not an excuse, but as much as I understand the frustration and absolute need to be in contention, this seems like a very strange outlier. But "in contention" would mean that we'd win the games we needed to this year and that just didn't happen.
