This ostensibly will be the final COVID 'extra' season of eligibility, so recruiting freshmen will be needed to fill out a roster going forward. You can't just solely recruit in the portal anyway, so a coaching staff recruits kids from an early age to make sure they know one another for future considerations. it's basically mass free agency in the minor leagues of basketball....

I thought we were this and next season away from being over COVID extra seasons. But nonetheless.

It will be interesting. Deion Sanders has made zero visits to high schools and hits the transfer portal heavily. I'd imagine he'll lose out on some players who transfer to schools where those coaches visited them in their early years.

As for basketball, you can probably get by with it a little more than you can in football. But in order to have depth, you either need deep pockets for solid bench guys or some continuity from high school or JUCO recruits.

Patience, loyalty, waiting your turn.  Those are concepts that do not exist anymore. Not just basketball, but everything. I blame Covid.

I think this has less to do about a period in time and more about money. This is a byproduct of many things that transpired before COVID. AAU probably soiled the quality of loyalty, team, and athlete more than anything. Our sports and federal government entities have made these activities legal since circa 2021.

Until some type of regulation (of league or legal action) comes into play, or until the market for NIL stabilizes (whether corporations determine they aren't getting an ROI, or universities/boosters can no longer shell out that level of money) I don't see this going anywhere any time soon.

Random question but is Purdue going to be very good next year?  Havent heard there name on any additions, seems quiet but maybe they are loaded.

These two things are the byproduct of what Purdue has for next season.

Gillis wasn't expected to maintain a spot on Purdue's roster and Purdue didn't leave a spot open for him. They're all booked up.

I'm like 51% sure that this guy posted a "I'm back" about tOSU earlier this month.  LOL.  Just goes to show, never stop fearing until the portal closes.

Without knowing the details, I wonder if Ohio States incoming transfers changed his outlook on playing time.

That, or it's always about money now.

We also have to trust that Fred knows what he’s looking for now.  He’s got the formula to the secret sauce that works for him.  I don’t think he’d go away from that just to get more athletic.  I’m going to go out on a limb and say Fred was completely transparent and honest with what he expected and envisioned for each player we’ve recruited.

I would hope, much like Boogie, that each player took that to heart before committing and they know that we expect ‘we over me’.

I think we may be overlooking an element too that just because we're going after certain transfers doesn't mean we're top contenders.

Fred's going to have to balance between sure things, 50/50s, and long shot guys. And he's got to do all that while trying to determine how to best fill a roster.

    You might be siblings.

lol! I don't think it takes much to become an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.

"It is believed that several hundred thousand Admirals have been appointed. Many Nebraskans and visitors to our state have not heard of our navy; they have not heard of the waves of prairie schooners that at one time plied our plains under which lies our real wealth---Nebraska's under-ground sea."

There's a joke in there somewhere about Admiral Navy Seamen and potentially being siblings, but I'll digress.

This is the Instagram post you make after you think you made the wrong college choice because you didn't get as much playing time as you wanted.  Maybe he's star at Penn St or maybe this is his second stop on the way to his 3rd or even 4th stop. Time will tell.

Hope he enjoys playing basketball in a library.

Did it hint on Payne not visiting meaning good things with Kyle or just that we/he is no longer interested?

We're interested but probably not interested in paying what it will take to land Payne.

If you're not willing to pay'n to get the Payne, then you're going to feel the pain.
