Nebraska (6-17) vs Minnesota (11-9)* game thread
Dead Dog Alley replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Kent's call of this game is just missing something this year... -
If the war had lasted 60 years longer, Iowa Pre-Flight Academy would have 10 national titles in football right now. As it stands, they remain the greatest program in the history of the state of Iowa. (For instance, they had more 10 win seasons in their 3 years of existence than Iowa State does in 130.)
-
That strategy has worked for almost everyone who has tried it. Hire Sean Miller, and look the other way.
-
Maybe we just pay Iowa State $18 million to switch coaches, and players?

Things tend to go wrong when you give garbage effort and think that you’re too good to be here. -

Go recruit a whole new team from the rec center, it would be less embarrassing than trotting out this group. -

How can a team be 0-11 and have such a sense of entitlement? -

This might be the most gutless pathetic effort I’ve ever witnessed. -
On the other hand, unheralded post player recruits at schools in the bottom tier of the Big Ten are judged harsher by officials than free world Olympic gymnasts were by Communist bloc judges. Improper hand placement on defense - foul. Step away too quickly from setting a screen - foul. An upperclassman flops against you - foul. Any kind of contact or even perceived contact going for a block - foul. Awkward footwork on offense - travel. Until you establish that you've got some ability or that you know what you're doing, the guys in stripes get off on sending you back to the bench. So maybe this kid would have struggled to get established in the Big Ten; or maybe he'd be averaging 14 and 8; it's hard to say.

We haven't lost to Northwestern yet so he's actually 5-45. But...he started out 2-2, and did have a 3-5 stretch last year. So if you just throw out the 25 game losing streak and the current 13 game losing streak, and he's 5-7. Not too shabby...

He's probably in line to make some NIL money with these guys: -

And if you think that stretch was fairly officiated, I could only assume that you were lobotomized at some point or suffered some other sort of major head trauma. -

McJunkins is on the fast track for a retirement in Hades -
The premise of that episode presupposed that there be some possible evolutionary advantage of speaking only in allegory. I dare say; that is a bit of a stretch.

As of today, out of the 78 players in the Big 10 averaging 20 minutes or more per game, Lat is 77th in field goal percentage and 76th in effective field goal percentage. His 3pt%, 2pt%, FT%, scoring and rebounding are all noticeably down from last year. I'm open to the possibility that the back issues he's dealing with are at least partly to blame. It’s February And Our Biggest Win So Far Is…?

Both statements could be true; it depends on your metrics. -
No, he was 77-78-79. As a third grader I saw Hampton in 78 - my uncle (dad's sister's husband) was a Hampton grad, so they came up for the game. My uncle was pretty mad when Hampton lost - it was the only time I had ever seen him upset - so I asked my dad what he was so mad about, after all, at least they had won the JV game. My dad looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "No one cares about a JV game."

So if you sell your soul to the devil, are your odds with C-19 better, or worse?

I saw Shelby in 1981 when I was in sixth grade - they were the only team to beat the Class D champions that year (and beat them twice). I saw the regular season contest, not the CRC tournament final; Shelby won by one on a 35 foot buzzer beater. Hell of a game, but not as good as the Class D final that year.

For who? I suffered a bad injury playing football against Hampton in 1984. They absolutely killed us because we were just not any good. In garbage time in the fourth quarter I was badly injured blocking their third string 100 lb safety - I hit him, he went flying to the ground with his legs flying into the air, and when his feet were flying up he managed to accidentally kick me in a....sensitive area. Okay, it wasn't that serious, but it was bad enough that I still remember it.
