Was fairly confident we would win this game... Just wish I'd been more confident with my score prediction -

Nebraska didn't play Indiana in the 2023 calendar year so this will be the first time Keisei Tominaga will go against the Hoosiers since he's become KEISEI TOMINAGA. -

Ohio St is favored by 10 at home vs Rutgers so things would have to go badly for the Buckeyes for that to happen. -
Game Day Essentials: Game #14 vs Indiana
hhcmatt replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'm not sure the NCAA has even ruled on him. To me the most likely turn of events is that he'll get this one year of suspension and be able to use his last year of eligibility. He could have played overseas this season so seems like he'd chose to stay in college another year. We're not exactly swimming with PGs so I'd think there is a pretty good chance he'd stay here. -
Nebraska Cornhuskers (11-2) vs Indiana Hoosiers (10-3) Date: Wednesday Jan 3rd, 2024 Time: 8:07 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN Indiana Info Head Coach: Mike Woodson (3rd year) Location: Bloomington, Indiana Conference: B1G Nickname: Hoosiers Shirt not to wear: Marvin Harrison Sr. Jersey Line: Nebraska by 4.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 9+ KenPom rank: 87 Nota bene: Fred Hoiberg vs Mike Woodson is a matchup of former NBA coaches Indiana Center Payton Sparks was a teammate of Boogie Coleman last season at Ball St. Indiana boasts one of the tallest lineups in D-1, clocking in at #3 in KenPom's average height metric. Nebraska's secret scrimmage foe Utah is #2. Mackenzie Mgbako attended Roselle Catholic HS last season, playing with Simeon Wilcher. This is the same HS attended by CJ WIlcher and Jamarques Lawrence. KenPom most used lineups PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 2 Gabe Cupps 6-2 175 Fr 32 Trey Galloway 6-5 205 Sr 21 Mackenzie Mgbako 6-8 217 Fr 5 Malik Reneau 6-9 233 So 1 Kel'el Ware 7-0 242 So 25.1 Player to watch: Malik Reneau While not as dominant as Trayce Jackson-Davis, F/C Reneau has taken over as Indiana's go-to scorer in the paint while also ranking 2nd on the team in assists. Does have 3pt range. Player to watch: Mackenzie Mgbako The 5 star freshman has become the Hoosier's main 3pt threat with PG Xavier Johnson out of the lineup. Player to watch: Kel'el Ware Another former 5 star, Ware transferred from Oregon and has started at the 5 for Indiana where he's arguably been their best player. Ware looks like a lottery pick at times but sometimes his motor doesn't match. Others to watch Trey Galloway is a glue guy having to do more because of limited guard play. Freshman guard Gabe Cupps is mostly just bringing the ball up the court and shoots at a Benny Parker like rate. 6'8" 215# Miami transfer Anthony Walker is nice depth but he's yet another post player who doesn't take outside shots. Xavier Johnson would be a real boost for the Hoosiers in terms of ball handing and 3pt shooting should he play. UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report Will update if needed when the B1G releases their injury Out indefinitely 5 Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Junior - Likely out for the season 15 Blaise Keita 6-11 257 lbs Junior - Ongoing ankle injury recovery Have been showing up on the injury report 35 Henry Burt 6-7 216 lbs RS Freshman 2 Ramel Lloyd Jr. 6-6 210 lbs RS Freshman Game Time Decision 51 Rienk Mast 6-10 248 lbs Junior - Knee Scope Possible starters for Nebraska 10 Jamarques Lawrence 6-3 183 lbs Sophomore 30 Keisei Tominaga 6-2 179 lbs Senior 3 Brice Williams 6-7 213 lbs Junior 4 Juwan Gary 6-6 221 lbs Junior 53 Josiah Allick 6-8 231 lbs Senior Bench 0 C.J. Nebraska is simultaneously looking to rack up conference wins at home while avoiding resume killing loses. Indiana's 3 loses have come against some of the best in the country...can Nebraska make the grade? Indiana presents a great style matchup for the Huskers. There won't be a ton of 3pt shooters for their defense to chase as the Hoosiers are one of the most 2pt heavy teams in D-1. Defensively, the Hoosiers should present plenty of open 3pt shots and expect Nebraska to take advantage. What could decide this one is Nebraska's ability to defend the paint without fouling as Indiana draws plenty of contact and Nebraska could be without Rienk Mast. Things could get real dicey if Nebraska has to play Diop or even CJ Wilcher at center. Despite their height, Indiana isn't an elite rebounding squad so it's possible for Nebraska to limit 2nd chance shots. This is a getable game for the Huskers and look for them to have a great shot in this one, especially with their edge in FT shooting. Prediction: Nebraska 78 - Indiana 73 View full article

I think Xavier Johnson is going to return from a foot injury for this game. He was playing 25-30 minutes a game for the first 5 and a half. -
Certainly not officially. Recovery from lose body removal is 2-4 weeks and we're at 2 weeks and 1 day. Could be back tomorrow or heck even miss the next four. We'll know by about 5 pm tomorrow either way. With all the black eyed peas consumed by board members yesterday I'm feeling optimistic.

Postgame video Seems like we're trying to get Boogie engaged for conference play On Jarron Coleman’s performance “Jarron had a great week of practice. We were prepared to throw him out there, and I thought he gave us a really nice lift. I believe he had six in the first half, both were threes. He was really rock solid and I’m proud of Boogie (Coleman) for hanging in there and being ready for when his name was called. I told him to just be ready, your time is going to come again and the way he practiced, he deserved the opportunity to go out there in the first 10 minutes of that game and he took advantage of it. He’s a veteran guy that knows how to play. They were pressing us all the way to the end and our guys were gassed and they were exhausted. I think Boogie had six turnovers, but those weren’t all his fault. He’s out there with the guys that haven’t had a lot of minutes. He’s going to be an important part of what we do the rest of the way.”

Postgame Notes *-With the win, the Huskers completed non-conference play with a 10-1 mark. It marked the fifth time since World War II that Nebraska finished non-con play with just one loss (10-1, 2018-19; 10-1, 2003-04; 12-1, 1991-92; 11-1, 1977-78) since World War II. *-Nebraska improves to 11-2 on the season, matching its best 13-game start since the 1991-92 team opened with a 12-1 mark after 13 games. *-Nebraska’s 91 points is a season high (previous high 89 vs. Duquesne). It is Nebraska’s highest point total since scoring 93 at Penn state on Feb. 27, 2022. NU also had a season-high 22 assists. *-Nebraska allowed 11 first-half points, its lowest total allowed since giving up nine to Jackson State on Dec. 19, 2009. NU’s previous season low allowed was 12 at Kansas State on Dec. 17. *-The 11 first-half points allowed is the fewest Nebraska has allowed at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The previous low was 13, set two other occasions (vs. Mississippi Valley State, 11/6/18; vs Miami, 12/4/13). *-Nebraska opened game on a 12-0 run in the first 5:57 It is the Huskers’ 10th double-figure run of the season. NU later added runs of 11-0 and 10-0 in the first half. The Huskers now had 12 double-figure runs this season *-C.J Wilcher led NU in scoring for the third time this season with a season-high 18 points. His previous best was 16 against North Dakota. Wilcher’s 18 points marked the fifth time a Husker reserve led NU in scoring this season. *-Nebraska’s 16 steals were a season high and the most since also having 16 against McNeese State on Nov. 28, 2020.

We could have won by 80 and it would still boil down to whether or not we get at least 10 conference wins

South Carolina St. Head Coach: Erik Martin (2nd year) Location: Orangeburg, SC Conference: Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Nickname: Bulldogs Line: Nebraska by 25.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 12+ KenPom rank: 335 Nota bene: This is the last BTN+ game of the season. If you just have it for the basketball season, be sure to remember to cancel SC St ranks 2nd in KenPom's bench minutes stat, 345th out of 362 in KenPom D1 experience stat Nebraska is 2-0 all time vs SCST and 14-0 all time vs MEAC teams With a win this would be the 5th team since World War II to finish a non-conference schedule with just 1 loss (10-1, 2018-19; 10-1, 2003-04; 12-1, 1991-92; 11-1, 1977-78) KenPom most used lineups PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 12 Mitchell Taylor 6-3 170 Fr 24 Shaman Alston 6-4 185 Sr 4 Caleb McCarty 6-8 185 Jr 55 Davion Everett 6-6 215 Jr 13 Drayton Jones 6-10 240 Fr 7.2 Player to watch: Davion Everett Everett leads the team in scoring and rebounds while spending time at the 4/5 like a smaller Ed Morrow. Will be aggressive on the offensive boards and like a lot of the Bulldogs will cause plenty of contact while drawing and giving out fouls. Player to watch: Wilson Dubinsky I'd call him the Canadian Tominaga as the 6'2", 200# JUCO product is known for his 3pt shooting and takes the lion's share of the attempts for a team that doesn't shoot them a ton. Dubinsky is shooting 34.9% from 3 thus far and has accounted for 30 of the team's 69 makes. Player to watch: Drayton Jones Jones is the only true center that the Bulldogs are playing ATM. The freshman center is good rebounder/rim protector type but is foul prone and so-so scoring in the paint. Others to watch Caleb McCarty is a pogo stick type player that has given Nebraska fits in years past though he's a glue guy so he's not prone to scoring much over 10 points. The Bulldogs play at least 12 guys a game so it will be a rotating door of guys based on foul trouble and effectiveness. UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report Will update if needed when the B1G releases their injury Out indefinitely 5 Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Junior - Likely out for the season 15 Blaise Keita 6-11 257 lbs Junior - Ongoing ankle injury recovery Out until early January 51 Rienk Mast 6-10 248 lbs Junior - Knee Scope Possible starters for Nebraska 10 Jamarques Lawrence 6-3 183 lbs Sophomore 30 Keisei Tominaga 6-2 179 lbs Senior 3 Brice Williams 6-7 213 lbs Junior 4 Juwan Gary 6-6 221 lbs Junior 53 Josiah Allick 6-8 231 lbs Senior Bench 0 C.J. Wilcher 6-5 214 lbs Junior 9 Jarron Coleman 6-5 213 lbs Senior 1 Sam Hoiberg 6-0 183 lbs Sophomore 11 Eli Rice 6-8 213 lbs Freshman 21 Matar Diop 6-10 213 lbs Freshman 31 Cale Jacobsen 6-4 200 lbs RS Freshman 2 Ramel Lloyd Jr. 6-6 210 lbs RS Freshman 35 Henry Burt 6-7 216 lbs RS Freshman 24 Jeffrey Grace III 6-3 197 lbs Sophomore Possibly some Keisei foreshadowing for tonight's game The Skinny: The 2023-24 Huskers have feasted this year on a relatively soft non-conference schedule and for the most part have lived up to expectations. The Huskers looks to finish 2023 on a 4 game winning streak vs a South Carolina St team that not only isn't very good but plays a style of basketball that tends to do poorly vs Nebraska. While North Dakota proved that the holidays are notorious for upsets in front of dead crowds, the Bulldogs will need to play out of their minds to stay in this game. The Bulldogs with their nearly bottomless bench of players play a pressure type defense where they're trying to generate steals for easy buckets the other way, mainly packing the paint. If Nebraska can keep their wits about them, they'll find open 3s and FTs galore in this game. Offensively the Bulldogs are taking most everything inside. If Nebraska can defend without fouling, they'll have a chance to hold this team under 60. SC St's game against Missouri stands out as the Bulldogs led 21-10 ten minutes into that one before Mizzou closed out the game outscoring the Bulldogs 72-38. It's likely at some point Nebraska will be in a position where this game will be out of hand and it will be interesting to see who does and doesn't come off the bench for the Huskers. Hopefully the Huskers will escape with no injuries and with a score that won't disappoint the computers. Prediction: Nebraska 94 - South Carolina St. 62
