Doane Info Head Coach: Ian McKeithen Location: Crete, NE Conference: Great Plains Athletic Conference (NAIA) Nickname: Tigers Mascot: Thomas the Tiger Last time out: Lost to University of Virginia Islands Of note Doane head coach Ian McKeithen was hired by Fred Hoiberg as an intern when Hoiberg was working in the Timberwolves front office. This is the third meeting between Nebraska and Doane. The Huskers won an exhibition vs the Tigers in 2011 76-54 and a game back in 1899 52-7 in old Grant Hall Hoiberg Presser The Skinny: Back when Doc Sadler was hired as head coach in 2006 he made following statement which eventually became a running joke with Nebraska fans: As the Doc Sadler era began before the age of freely available analytics it would take a while for the good people of Nebraska to realize the joke was on them as the defensive-minded Sadler's view of baseline to baseline was running off as much clock as possible to limit possessions for his often undermanned teams. Sadler's return, this time in a role to shore up the defense for Fred Hoiberg, should fulfill the promise of "baseline to baseline" and perhaps even one day the promise of that first ever NCAA tournament win. With the lack of size, Hoiberg seems keen to run his 5-out offense that he first developed at Iowa St. When the Huskers are setting up their offense after a Doane made basket, take time to note when they initiate the offense with all 5 players behind the three point line. It will be especially interesting to note when or if this occurs when Yvan Ouedraogo is in the game. You're guess on the score is as good as mine. Let's say Prediction: Nebraska 86 - Doane 59

Nebraska vs Wichita St "secret" scrimmage 2019
hhcmatt replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Via UNL Huskers Fall in Closed Scrimmage Wichita, Kan. -- Cam Mack had 17 points to lead three Huskers in double figures, but the Huskers fell to Wichita State, 89-75, in a closed scrimmage Saturday afternoon. “It was a great opportunity for us to play a big, strong, physical team like Wichita State,” Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg said. “I thought we had some good moments, and also had some things we that we can certainly learn from today.” Mack topped led the Huskers in rebounds (six) and assists (six), while Matej Kavas and Jervay Green added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Kavas went 5-of-8 from 3-point range and Green chipped in a pair of 3-pointers in the loss. Trey Wade led four WSU players in double figures with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Erik Stevenson added 17 points, including four 3-pointers for the winners. WSU also hit nine 3-pointers and went 12-of-14 from the line, while Nebraska went 12-of-20 from the line, including several front ends from the charity stripe in the first half. Nebraska held Wichita State, which won 22 games and reached the semifinals of the NIT last season, to 45 percent shooting on the day, but were outrebounded 51-36, including 17 offensive caroms. “We have to be able to find a way to battle on the glass,” Hoiberg said. “That was the one thing we talked about going into the season was for us to have a chance to win was to compete on the glass. We gave up 17 offensive rebounds and that is too many.” The Huskers also overcame a slow start, as WSU built a double-figure lead in the first seven minutes, only to see the Huskers climb back into the contest with seven straight points capped by a Kavas 3-pointer. “I thought we battled back after we got down double-digits early and cut into the lead,” Hoiberg said. “When we got out and played with pace, we had really good things happen.” NU trailed 45-35 at half, but were unable to draw closer in the final 20 minutes, as the Shockers size stook over. WSU had 12 of its 17 offensive boards in the final 20 minutes. “There are a lot of things we will look at and get back to work on Monday to get better in those areas,” Hoiberg said. -

I think it started late morning. That's when nebraska basketball player social media went dead.

Considering how active Wichita St is on their board and that Robin has to cover a football game we're going to find it first

Iowa clocking in at 16. I'd take the unders on the 16.5 btw.

Question about Stevenson.

It doesn't really matter how you generate TOs...like stealing the ball or forcing a lot of errant passes is just a matter of style. We were typically better than average in the Miles era I think this year's team will have to win the turnover battle to be successful because we're more than likely to lose the rebounding battle.

Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for visiting with us this evening. Now I've traveled across half our state to be here and to see about this land. Now I daresay some of you might have heard some of the more extravagant rumors about what my plans are, so I just thought you'd like to hear it from me. This is the face -- it's no great mystery. I'm a pace man, ladies and gentlemen. I have coached many games high in pace. I have statistic showing the speed at which my teams play. I like to think of myself as a pace man. And as a pace man I hope that you'll forgive just good old-fashioned plain speaking. Now this work that we do is very much a family enterprise. My grandfather coached here before me. I think one or two of you might have met him already. Now something else, and please don't be insulted if I speak about this: points. Let's talk about points. Now to my mind, it's an abomination to consider that any man, woman, or child in this magnificent country of ours should have to look upon scoring points as a luxury. We're going to play with pace here. Pace means space; space means shots. We're going to raise the number of shots here where before it just simply was impossible. You're going to have more shots than you know what to do with. Points will be coming right out of your ears, ma'am. Points, shots, pace, these are just a few of the things we can offer you, and I assure you ladies and gentlemen, that if we do have pace here, and I think there's a very good chance that we will, this team of yours will not only survive, it will flourish. I'd be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Yes? Will we play defense? Well, I'm going to leave that to Doc. Thank you. Anyone else? Well, if anything comes up, I'm pretty easy to find and you just come and visit with me. Thank you so much for your time. Good night.
