We're out of the B1G tourney because we lost to almost all the other 7-13 teams in conference. Not imagining that Iowa, Minnesota, or Northwestern have more NIL than us. You look at the guys USC recruited and can't say they're operating on some big budget. Blew close games against the type of schools where they aren't outspending you. Bad roster build. If we learned from it, we have enough of a blank canvas where we can do a better job this off-season.

Can tell you we have significantly less NIL than Indiana who we beat and significantly more NIL than Minnesota and we lost. Dick-measuring the amount of money we can burn on this program isn't going to be the answer here because we're going to be out-$$'ed by at least 7 programs in this conference at all times. It's important to know what sort of identity/type of team we want to build because that allows us to focus $$$ on the important position(s) of that scheme. After that, get creative. Having more money, missing out on guys, and then blowing that money on Braxton Meah is mismanagement. Finding a guy like Justin Bolis because we were looking, that's good management.

Yes. I wouldn't say Fred excels at all in running a college basketball team or roster construction, which is a very big part of the job. On the flip side, you could argue that Nebraska excels less at hiring a "better coach". Maybe the more apt question is whether or not a "better coach" would get more, similar, or less NIL money than Fred.

Seems like maybe senior year guys with Juco experience could be moneyball acquisitions given that their first year out of Juco they tend to struggle adjusting they seem likely to get extra eligibility from the NCAA in the future If you can mine some Evan Taylor types, even better

Seems like an issue is that it's year 7 and there is no clear vision on what type of player we need to be successful. Seems like we had pretty good success with undersized passing big men (properly sized ones are expensive) and surround them with shooting. Some of the shooters should be able to dribble a ball, the rest of them should either pass and/or be able to rebound. If you have a guy who can penetrate into the lane, great. Defensively, just hustle. Didn't mention it but cerebral is often a must. You have one year or so to learn the smooth jazz that Hoiberg wants to run. Trying to teach shot blockers how to pass or running a bunch of guys around the 3pt line who can't shoot isn't going to get it done with the way Hoiberg wants to/will only coach the guys on offense.

Feels like we have "win a game in the NCAA tourney" money/resources given how close we've come in the last couple of years. As much as I'd love a Final 4 banner, a tourney win sure would be swell.

I'd agree that we ended up not being able to pony up enough money for Chucky (or William Kyle). Seemed like the issue with Sallis was that Lincoln was not far enough away from Omaha for Sallis' family.
