I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. For every buzzer beater, there's 100 games that end pointless fouling and non-stop time outs. I, obviously, agree that it would end the "end of the game" buzzer beater - but completely new times of excitement would be created.

Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)
basketballjones replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'm super happy for him. Power 5 conference bball was a low-probability of success with all the things that needed to happen to retool him into a "3 & D" or "Slasher & D" player he needed to be to be effective at our level. Khyri Thomas was his ceiling as a player - but Khyri had much more ball handling skills and guard background than Akol ever did. Summit league ball should allow him to be a bit more of a quasi 3-4 tweener, and his athleticism will be more valuable. He's also going to simply play more and have the ball more - which should help him get in a better groove. I'm super excited for UNO and who they've brought in - they're a fun program to watch and Coach Hansen is one of the best dudes in the business. -
Who goes and who stays in 2022-23?
basketballjones replied to 75unlgrad's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Wow. That's kinda wild.... -
Things I think the game needs: 1. Elam Ending 2. Shooting Foul or in Double Bonus = Make 1st FT, counts for 2 (Miss the first you can still make the second for 1). 3. Have to tweak what the offensive players are allowed to do while creating contact on the drive or in the paint. They get away with murder on stuff that ends up getting called a foul on the defense.

I see what you're saying, but that would kind of eliminate the idea of what you're trying to do. A defense up 3 would then just immediately tackle until the clock died.

I love NYC Point Guards.

We're sure on that? DB staying for sure?

Fair thee well my "what could have been" player of the last 5 years. I stand by that he was the best player on the team when I watched us scrimmage two years ago.

Why no basketball recruiting analyst trips?
basketballjones replied to 75unlgrad's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yeah but us 3-6 would bring a far more significant amount of weird energy and fervor. -
Thank you dear leader.

A buddy of mine was trying to convince me that Blaise is a mid-year guy? That's not true, correct? He won't start until the 2022 season, right?

Certainly seems like a new opportunity for a site to figure out. -
Top 25 Husker Recruits in the 24/7 Era
basketballjones replied to aphilso1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Nobody. Nobody. I don't know if Doc had something on him, or he was deep in the bag, but I do not know how he stayed around for his entire career. Just did not stop. Even if Toney was not practicing (sitting out injured or something), he was screaming at him. My favorite one ever: Toney was out with some sort of foot/ankle injury - and Doc was not happy with his level of effort in his rehab. Practice is super sloppy and not going well... Doc stops practice and goes, "SURE IS F**ING HARD TO HAVE A GREAT PRACTICE WHEN YOUR STARTERS ARE SITTING OUT." Toney immediately puts head down. Doc: "Ya know Toney - if you had worked as hard on your rehab as Mike (Fox) worked on his tan this summer - we'd be an NCAA tournament team!!!!" -

Naw, Marks just wasn't good. Balham was the guy with the serious knee issues. Sort of started to get it figured out (or at least manageable) towards the end of his career but never really materialized. Absolutely great dude, though. -

In case anyone was wondering - I beat Alonzo Edwards in a 3pt and FT contest in Coaching Basketball class with Larry Ribble at UNL. Please, try to go on with your day. -
2021 PG Jackson Cronin (Walk-On)
basketballjones replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Uh - it's actually quite the opposite there, bud. This dude couldn't hold Menke or Easley's jock. That's why I quote his film - watch it. Menke and Easley were borderline D1 guys, taking an opportunity to earn a scholarship. This guy is not. -

Not exactly a Charlie Easley/Trevor Menke level walk-on. -
Departures/Returnees/Arrivals

I guess I'm super jaded with our big men. At this point, all I can see when I watch their film is why they'll never pan out. Need to start focusing on the positives you mentioned, because I do believe you are accurate. -
Don't apologize for my lack of intelligence.
