Selection Committee Games of Interest

Sucks but it appears SOS was an important factor. We just didn’t play/beat enough good teams. -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

Late to the party, but I'm sorry...OU should be out. I fully agree it's a full season for body of work but current play should also be a big factor. A team that finish 4-11 in their last 15 games heading into the tournament should be out. -

Damn, UL losing would have been icing on the cake. But ill settle for NC ST and ASU losing. At worst, they fall behind us in the RPI. NC St has quite a bit of Quad 1-2 wins that look nice but anything helps at this point. -

BC winning would really help. Not sure if it would push NC St out but it looks like their RPI is projected to drop to 65 which would be dangerous territory for them. -
Having guys pro is very important. It's another sell on the recruiting trail. But, we want to play in the NCAA tournament + have guys go pro. Obviously we were VERY close this year if we don't hear our name called but my main concern is that we don't make it and we lose important pieces next year and we missed a prime opportunity with a talented roster. Then next year we will be talking about how young we are, how they will need to gell, etc......and it seems to be a never ending circle. I'm putting the cart way before the horse but for once it would be nice to have a good offseason and be able to come into the next season with high expectations. And if Palmer/Copeland leave I don't take that as they hate Miles...they should do what they feel is best for them but it will feel like a missed opportunity if our season results in the NIT with those players and then poof they are gone.
-
I was lumping guys like Petteway and Pitchford into that as well. The transfer market has been more kind to us than not obviously. We were able to overcome losing Morrow/Jacobson pretty easily. Can we do the same if Palmer/Copeland leave? I'm not so sure as we don't have any other transfers waiting in the wings right now. That's obviously worst case scenario...hopefully they both stay and we are talking about if we will be ranked or not come next fall.
-
I don't think the issue is transfers rather who the transfers are. We have had quite a bit of key contributors leave early or transfer to other programs. I don't know how that compares to other programs but some programs can typically absorb the losses and move on without a hitch. We haven't proven to be capable of that just yet. We will likely be in the same boat if we lose both Palmer/Copeland in the offseason barring some home runs with 5th year transfers. We don't have any other transfers waiting in the wings for next year. The goal should be to make the NCAA tournament, Miles has said as much. That doesn't mean this year is a bust if we don't make it. With that said, even if we don't make the tournament this year I'm fine with Moos extending Miles but there is no do over starting next year if we have major turnover in the offseason. Miles should be expected to have next years team called on selection Sunday. I also don't understand why people bring up Doc or Barry...we are in much better position now. And a lot of this is the University has made the decision to utilize more resources for the basketball program. Tim Miles is making more than double than Doc did...Tim Miles has one of the best arenas in college basketball. We finally have a practice facility. We should not be comparing to Doc/Barry...this has been a new ERA of Nebrasketball and one that we should expand our expectations of the basketball program.

Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

I hope you are right. I do think if the committee is truly trying to select the best teams we will be in. I looked at team rankings bracket matrix a little closer and what was interesting is that they are generally pretty good at guessing the field but take a hit in regards to seeding. Last year they had 67 out of the 68 teams correct on the final bracket. Generally they fall between getting 64-66 teams correct it appears. -

True, but sans Providence/Utah just about every other bubble team is ranked ahead of us in KenPom. Some by a very wide margin unfortunately. -

It does look a lot better...the issue is that team rankings stats or metrics won't be on our team sheet come Sunday. Our record in regards to the RPI will be. It's just another website that tries to forecast what will happen Sunday but their track record is not great in that regard. We just have to hope that the committee doesn't use all the metrics as end all be all and some human element takes over and they don't leave out a team that won 13 games in the Big Ten. -
Agreed, and that could be the case even if EVERYONE doesn't stay. There are some guys we can afford to lose. Hell, you could even talk me into Copeland leaving and this being a very good team next year. I don't think we could afford to lose both Cope and Palmer though. People will point to us returning the bulk of our team in 2015 but the fact is...that team wasn't as talented and they were dealing with a few issues within the program. Pitchford probably wasn't the best teammate(JMO) and Petteway was dealing with family issues that found its way on the court for him. And I don't blame him for that. If this core can stay together we should be in the preseason top 25 or close and expected to be a shoe in for the dance.

I don't see them getting a 2 seed...and to be fair, they did play a tougher Big 10 schedule than we did. That's not our fault...but we would have been much better off having their schedule IMO. -
I know you are joking but we went 4-9 against top 100 RPI teams this year. Some of that was our fault in that we were in some very close games and didn’t close(KU,Creighton,OSU)....some of that isn’t our fault in that the Big Ten was down and our schedule did not give us very many opportunities to get a good win at home
-
I would agree, we are not in the position to fire a coach that just won 22 games even if we aren’t dancing. But, we need to hope that this offseason goes smooth. Like most teams we will lose a few guys but those few guys can’t be any of our starters.
-
Insanity? I’m not sure about that. I would agree now would not be the time to make any sort of move. It’s all hypotheticals at this point obviously but that could change very quickly if this offseason is anything like the past. We basically start over every year anyways so that’s not a huge deal. We need this roster to stay intact for once and hopefully be a shoe in for the big dance next year.
-
Considering our less than stellar offensive prowress under Erstad over the years it’s very fitting that a kid from Nebraska hits a grand slam against us today. A kid we didn’t recruit.
-
Last I heard was that Miles was confident both would return. Barring some 5th year transfers we just simply can’t lose both. It’s the difference of being predicted to finish 13th in the Big Ten to possibly being preseason top 25 worthy.
-
Tough pill to swallow because this team is very talented. I would have been happy with the NIT preseason despite thinking Miles needed to make the NCAA to keep his job. I’m still holding out small hopes we receive a bid. If we don’t...we need to get back to MSG and Miles needs to recruit his ass off to keep Copeland/Palmer around.

Unfortunatly I think you are correct. I 100% feel we are one of the best 30 some at large worthy teams. Our resume just doesn’t make a strong case for us though. With that said..every so often there is that one team that shows up on the screen that makes people say WTF. Hopefully that’s us this year. -

We were off our game all game. Doing things we haven’t done since November. Defensively we were getting lost in transition. Pick and pop again was murdering us. Offensively we went back to hero ball and the staff or the players couldn’t get it turned around. We looked like November Husker basketball. Not the team we watched the last two months. -

I’m going to watch next Sunday hoping our name is called. I hope we impressed the committee somehow with our play down the stretch. Our resume just has too many holes...not enough good wins and no good wins on the road. Not our fault the Big Ten was very down...but unfortunatly it’s probably going to keep us on the wrong side of the bubble. -

Dam, that’s crazy. I assumed the whole country had BTN. Maybe we can hope that only Bruce Rasmussen is at this game and nobody else is watching. -

All of our games were on btn. No one is watching this game Do most people really not have BTN? I guess I haven’t paid attention much but it seems most folks carry BTN. Folks love March basketball in the day on a Friday. If they aren’t watching it...they are keeping tabs of the score. Of course, anyone who has a say in us getting a bid is likely watching. -

Most folks around the country haven’t watched this team. Unfortunately we laid a complete egg on National TV. We can pray for a miracle from the committee but nobody else is going to buy this team landing a bid now.
