Yes, another good analysis by Sam. We'll need some early patience next year with all the newcomers and no bulk in the paint, but like most years, give Connie and this group some time and they'll have them improving. We'll have the bridge to the Shepard era!

No surprise there. Been in the works awhile. Best to Hannah wherever she decides to go.

Wow; very interesting. Thanks for posting, Bugs.

I want this board to be the best board out there ...
HB replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Norm, I'm with you on concept that the board has been good lately, for the most part. There have been snarkier times in the past, that's for sure. Anyway, the "hot mom" and "free beer" options were classic, and the "Union" option was classic and well-timed given what just happened with college football. But I had to go with "the Board is bigger than us all", partly in honor of Silverbacked. -
He had a down arrow, but I voted it back up because I didn't see anything wrong with the Walt thread. As for this one, it's pure trolling. Darn. You guys got me. Finally called out. Been trolling this site for almost 8 years now and now you guys finally figured me out. As for what really happened as I considered the original post yesterday... I've become quite put off by the testiness and overall stupidity on the board recently. So I posted an extremely vague statement (bitch move, BTW) which could be construed to mean something that probably, but that I may or may not know, is happening. Dimes is the man as he called me out on it right away, but it was to be taken purely as a parody of the Walt rumor thread of the day prior. So...I trolled (maybe) for the first time in my life and boy did I get everyone going. Completely wrong, but completely necessary. Everyone needs to chill the eff out. Including me. Sorry to everyone. Also, can someone tell me where I stand on the down up system of arrows? I've never seen that since I haven't logged on in a non-mobile fashion since before the old site came here. Also, I wish Vooch the best. He really is a good teammate and guy. good post as to your motivations and all is now fine (although I think there were many times in the past when the board has been much "testier and overall stupider" than in recent days/weeks ).

It just said Vooch.

OK, let's just speak very plainly about these two threads, this one and the one doc1394 is referencing from yesterday: 1. The thread yesterday wasn't reporting something they knew or that they felt was rock-solid, though not yet official, news. It was asking whether anyone else had heard a particular rumor. 2. The thread yesterday cast a particular player and one of his parents in a negative light. This one does not. 3. I hate doing this because I don't want to divulge something told to me in confidence, but let's just say the rumor posted yesterday was just a bit over-dramatized by whoever told it to the person who posted it. This one, I mean, how can you overdramatize ... you get the picture. This thread isn't exactly an earth-shattering revelation. In my opinion -- and you may disagree with me -- these are two very different threads. Norm, I guess I will take your invitation to disagree with you. But I've never much been into "cute", which was what the OP was doing. More into just sayin' it as it is.

Martin, Smith, whatever (pretty embarrassing mistake for OWH)

He stays. I have a lot of things to worry about today, but Terran leaving this year is not one of them.

Watched almost every one of Meggan's home games plus the Big 8 tournament games and a few roadies. She was a great point guard. Had decent talent around her but less than Lindsay played with by far. Was disappointed we didn't have at least one of her seasons end with a mini-run in the tournament. Mrs. HB and I actually subbed in for Meggan's parents on Senior Day which was a huge honor. But, putting aside any bias, I have to rate Lindsay a little higher as a player. They were both great players, but I think Lindsay shot if better from long range, and could take it to the goal a little better. Better defender also. The 20 year gap in when they played makes the comparison difficult, but that is just one guy's take.
-
I think we have some fun ahead. I guess I'll keep my tickets!
-
Except I've provided exactly zero information. All I did was wish somebody luck as I would wish any of our players luck. In fact, I wish Petteway luck, I wish Shavon luck, I wish Walt luck, and the rest of 'em. Do with it what you will. Some of you already have. That's on you. Lame. Extremely lame

Yep, Vooch is a good egg. Just made academic all-conference, I believe.

I suspect there will be news on that over the coming weeks. Could HT be one leaving ? I see where her dad is coming out of retirement to coach the Seward girls BB team again. Or does someone redshirt ? I guess I hesitate to publically speculate on current players who might leave before their eligibility is up. But without naming anyone, there will be departures.

Damn straight!!

Kind of surprised it didn't happen sooner. A unanimous vote on a message board is about unheard of. Probably someone just messing around or being a contrarian. I doubt we'll hear any actual reasons why her number wouldn't be retired.

He played 93 minutes in 18 games. Averaged 5.2 minutes in those games. 7 field goals, 3 free throws, 7 turnovers, 21 boards. He did make a 3 pointer. I bet the place went nuts when that happened.

Great post, Sam. I had to laugh when I read your comments about Lindsey's defense, however--we had a former poster on the women's board (Chipper F1) who ripped Moore for her defense for 4 years. I never understood it, but I guess everyone with a keyboard can fire up some posts. Hope you will continue to visit us now and then.

The team has had plenty of practices outside. That's not why they look like they are going thru the motions in some of these games. They are 24 games into the season...we are a mediocre baseball team because they will do not do the little things well. As I noted in the past in which I was told that I was wrong...it's the same thing that has been happening for three years now. I don't believe it's a talent issue...not sure how much of it is coaching. Either way, this staff hasn't got it done so far and year 3 is looking like more of the same. There haven't been very many major leaguers who had good look coaching college ball....still too early to say Erstad will be a failure of a hire but the early results don't look very good right now. It's one thing to lose but when you have multiple games where your team looks disinterested then something is wrong. Last night we looked like we didn't want to be there.Thye have been outside but in 30 degree temps. Hard to get good when you have three layers of clothes on to stay warm, and the ground is as hard as playing in the street. I thought we played better this year in the warmer weather. I would not have wanted to be at KSU last night either. We might be just an average team, but I think we will get better. to add to this it was 28 degrees with a wind chill of 18 in Iowa City on Sunday I'm sure Huskerbaseball would have been able to play his best in those conditions. Give it a rest alreadySo Iowa didn't play in the same conditions? Is that what you are arguing? Or gasp....could it be this team is mentally weak which is why they are wildly inconsistent? Think before you post. The weather is just another bogus excuse for an under achieving program right now. Well, have you considered the chance that things may not be as bleak as you portray them? We get it by now: You don't like Erstad and think he was a bad hire. You think 2 1/2 seasons post-Anderson is enough to know, and you have no problem personally going after the coaches at every turn. You have every right to have those opinions. And, you may be right. But you're getting personal about it, and you've flogged the horse within an inch of its life if it isn't dead already. It's a message board of Husker fans. It's only natural that you get a little push back to a relentless, unabridged negative attack on "our" team and coaches. I've expressed concern about some of the same things you notice with the team. There are some ominous signs with fundamentals and mental errors. But I'm not ready to conclude that we have bad coaches and things won't improve. Even if I'm wrong with a more balanced perspective than you have, I'm still going to go to the home games, and watch and listen to the away games, to enjoy them and look for improvement. And I will try to not let your decidedly negative viewpoint take the fun out of the baseball board. The latter may be easier said than done. If I had to predict, for this year, I'm very confident we will play better baseball, reduce physical and mental errors, and be more consistent with our offensive approach. I do think we'll struggle on the mound from a depth standpoint all year. I think the coaches know we have issues there. They wouldn't be giving a true freshman like Hohensee so many chances, and bringing a brand new guy (Austin Christensen) to the mound for the first time this late in the season, if they didn't have concerns about the number of guys they have who can do the job. Ultimately we'll be pretty good in conference. Hopefully enough to make a regional, but if not, I'm not going to declare that 3 years is a magical time frame in which we have to declare the Erstad hire a failure. I'm still glad he's our guy.

Congrats, Buglem. Man, I sucked compared to last year. And, I guess I was last, according to Ricky Bobby. I would hand the crown over to you, or give you the traveling trophy, but since the prize was a jar of Cip's salsa, I can't do that. It was consumed many moons ago. I can report it was damn good. Now, honor the august group of past champions with your deeds and actions. And your posts.

I too am frustrated by poor pitching and base running, but at the risk of being called delusional, I'll focus on a couple of positives: Ryan Boldt is a good baseball player. Really good. Jake Plazcek is playing good baseball. OK, carry on.
-
Agree; Connie would argue we are a better team with her in the lineup, despite the shooting deficiencies and sometimes playing 4 on 5 on defense. We may be able to reduce her minutes from the upper 30s, but if healthy she'll continue to start and get big minutes.
-
Couldn't disagree more. Baylor is good. Baylor had something to do with how we played. And our weaknesses were exposed. To make it sound like a choke job by us is absurd. We coached our brains out to make it a 14 point loss. We were fortunate Baylor didn't shoot like it did against Creighton, but we also may have had something to do with that.

It's a no-brainer. Not even subject to debate. I suppose the only issue is timing. It will, and should, take several years, but it won't be as long as for Ivy. Hooper is 1st in 3 pointers, 2nd all-time scoring, 2nd all-time rebounding, tied for 1st all-time double-doubles, top 10 all-time Big 10 in scoring and rebounding, top 5 at NU all time starts and minutes played. Just some highlights. 3 NCAA tourney berths during her tenure, including a Round of 32, Sweet 16. Big 10 tourney title.
