Same as Doc and Barry. If he doesn't have quality recruits in by that time, years 4-6 are most likely going to be just like Doc's. And voila, new coach. Even worse now with the facilities, since if you can't use them as a magnet your first 3 years, then magnet it will no longer be. He has 2 classes to land the bedrock talent to advance. That's a lot of pressure.

Fran's a quality coach, and he's got Iowa swinging up. If the point is that we also have a good coach, I don't know how controversial that would actually be. I really believe that Miles did one of the better coaching jobs in the conference this season. But that doesn't diminish what Iowa's doing, either. They're awfully young, and they're going to be good for some time. Honestly, i just makes the series better or both of us, because unlike football, our games are going to mean something for the foreseeable future.

nice card. All I can say is I agree. And really it's been good to see Andre come alive a bit here at the end of the season, too. I'd like to see him have one more quality moment tomorrow since he'll be one of the fresher players we'll have and will need to play quite a few quality minutes in order for us to have a chance at the upset.

He's used them before to refuel the guys, and I suspect he probably only does it when he feels they're completely gassed in game and a breather would help. And sometimes you may not call them because you deny the other coach the time as well, and I figure if you're playing a superior team that's not all that motivated, maybe you don't want to keep giving them opportunities to rally in a huddle if you think your guys can handle the end. Given that we've seen him do it a few times before, I'm not sure there's an overriding philosophy at play here. I'm generally not one that believes you use them just to use them myself. One last thing: this game went to the wire because of missed free throws at the front end in the last couple of minutes. I'm not sure timeouts cure that problem.

While my favorite team in the past 15 years is still Doc's Mighty Mites, this team has shoved their way into the second spot by sheer determination and grit (the same qualities the Mites had, and the teams are in fact eerily similar). Just spending time reflecting on how serious the accomplishments by this squad have been. It's easy to overlook given their record, and all those rotten blowouts. But what these guys have done is mind-boggling. No matter what happens tomorrow--and I actually expect at least one tough half of hoops--I'm proud of these guys for taking an almost surrendered season and turning it into something a lot more fun than even the most optimistic fan could have asked for. Here's to the Big Red!
