  1. it'll be easier if we don't act like we *have* to have them. We're so much better going to the rim right now.
  2. roby shoves away a shoe on his throat. I guess that's a T now. well, here we go. Glad I brought lube!
  3. toughness check right out of the gate. go figure.
  4. I'm a-feared. Guess I should get the big boy pants on and take the sleeping mask off.
  5. i don't trust anything that has us at 14 right now, unless it's a function of SSS. let's actually beat a high quality team first before we start prancing like peacocks. and hopefully that's in about 4 hours.
  6. this was probably a tough game for the guys to focus on all things considered. they were locked in for the first half, which was fortunate. but let's face it: everyone's waiting for the gauntlet to start, and I'm sure our guys are no exception. hopefully they're chomping at the bit to get back in the saddle against quality competition this week. they're going to get plenty of that.
  7. well, it's a win. that second half was dreadful, but probably a function of getting a massive lead and James needing to work out his personal court demons before the gauntlet. Huskers heading to Hoops Grad School this Monday. I think I'll need stronger medication.
  8. heh I love it when you''re so optimistic for the species, scott...:)
  9. I'm all for gender equity behind the mic, but this chick is driving me to drink.
  10. And Palmer's just determined to find his long shot regardless of the cost. I agree. Try them when they're open, fine. But when they're not falling, we can get to the rim against most teams. And we should.
  11. it's like we're trying to take the air out of the ball for an entire half. last year's bad habits slowly leaking their way into this team.
  12. doing what they gotta do. one more half, get the bench a little work, too. and on to clemson.
  13. I'm 56 and I feel like I've lived ten years too long already.
  14. Roby wouldn't be the first player to have all the tools in the world but not the psychology to play competitively at the highest levels of sport. Nothing wrong with that, either. We all are who we are. I'm inclined to think Roby just is who he is, and that he's probably going to always be this way. He'll have the occasional monster game, but this is a guy that's not going to be especially aggressive because it's just not his nature.
  15. I'm thankful immortality isn't a thing. Is that too much of a downer?
  16. I hope we're not going to be dependent on good officiating to win quality games. No one gets that any more. This is why mental toughness is such a big deal, especially against the sort of body mugging favored by the School of Knight (and I'm not criticizing them, just pointing it out). To me, last night's game was an exhibition on how important toughness is as an intangible. Even if your largely running on analytics, those things matter. You simply cannot abandon your game because a ref or two makes a series of horrible calls to swing a game hard. You have to regroup, laugh it off, and then return to the plan that was working before that moment. We became afraid of the officiating, and we lost our aggression as a result. That's not an easy thing to get back once it's gone. But we've shown our first mortal weakness to the league now, and you can bet other teams are telling themselves, "yeah, they're good, until you kick them in the nads." So I hope our guys prepare for this. Fast.
  17. Day after. Looking at the smoking crater/scene of the crime, still not sure what can be made of it. There are some games in which so much goes wrong that I'm not sure you can learn much from them at all. All I thought about was, "this is this year's St Johns game". In any event, I'm hoping it was a case of believing our own bullsh*t and letting that affect our mental state as a program. We haven't handled success well in the past, and it seems to be emerging again. There's so much pressure on this program to get that ridiculous monkey of its back re: the tourney that I think we're susceptible to all sorts of mental collapses under added pressure. I've concluded I'll just hover and wait to see how we deal with the next big haymaker before I'm willing to conclude that this team just isn't tough enough to slug through serious adversity or isn't disciplined enough mentally to prevent frequent diversions of its focus. Guess the next test is Clemson. Hoping like hell we pass that one. Not necessarily a win, but that we show that we're willing to get off the floor bloody and play the game our way no matter what tries to stop us.
  18. passive aggressive much? how about you eat my ass.
  19. so our kryptonite is mentally tough teams who play hard every minute. go figure.
  20. Really disappointing performance. Just can't take a brass ring if our lives depend on it.
  21. now that's what I call a group edit! heh heh. let the grand unravelling begin. this one's done.
  22. every casual fan out there is saying, "here we go again."
  23. refs aren't going to cost us this game. we're doing fine on our own. but boy, did they make an impact.
