  1. Kate seems to have the good hands and foot control to do a great pick and roll. Had a nice one today. Also really nice to see the extra gear that Bria has.
  2. That's the four and they should all sign during the early signing period starting this Wed. and going for one week.
  3. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/womens-basketball/kate-cain-was-late-addition-but-also-the-right-fit/article_df0a1b05-c87b-5c64-b92d-273d7d5cea94.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share Nice article by Brent W. (Journal/Star)
  4. Hopefully her rehab continues to go well. She is a very important part of our team and with the better depth we have this year they should be able to gradually work her back into the line up.
  5. A lot more hustle this year on defense especially inside. The guards showing the added year of experience. Nicea and Janay will add a whole lot to the team in leadership and experience. We can afford to bring them back cautiously so they are fully healed for conference games. Although only playing a Division II team still a nice win.
  6. I'm throwing out this topic for discussion since defense is often overlooked with greater emphasis on offense at least by some of the fans. Last year we were weak inside and out. A key to winning a lot more games will be how well we can stop other teams. Last year due to our inexperience at guard we could see a weakness there. This will be improved with most players coming back having another year to get stronger and understand what it takes to play in the big ten. I think our biggest weakness last year on defense was at the post and forward position. When you have the number two recruit in the nation now as a sophomore on your team you would expect a lot better defense out of that player. Blocked shots is a good indicator of desire to play defense. 7 blocked shots in 29 games tells the story for Jess. Also even though Allie after 4 years tried she was just not built for playing tough defense inside. We had decent offense out of those two but suffered on the defensive side. Instead of having Jess for 2 more years we now get Kate for 4 which excites me. May not be the caliber of Jess on offense but will prove to be much better on defense. GBR
  7. The bottom line for me is: " I'm dam glad she is gone from our team".
  8. We are going through a transition at the 5 spot from passing the ball to Shepard the last 2 years and watching her do some good things and some bad things as well. I would suspect that since all three are new to this situation it will take a little time to adjust. I believe 2 of 3 are capable and we should see improvement in the preseason. Once Nicea and Janay are back I think we will see more passes inside as both are tough driving to the hoop and passing off if the shot isn't there.
  9. You are right about those two shooting the 3's. I don't think it will be important for the 5 position to score from long range. Plenty of others will. Free throws are a different story. Darrien has not been good at the charity stripe in her past years here. Not having Janay or Nicea for this scrimmage hurts our defense as they are probably our two best defenders. Look for forward to seeing them on the floor.
  10. I wouldn't worry about our power forwards ability to hit the 3. Both Maddie and Grace have the ability as shown in the past. Kate Cain hit 80% of her free throws last year. First game jitters for a freshman are normal. On the positive Kate's 4 blocked shots in 11 minutes puts Shepards last season total of 7 for 29 games in perspective when looking at hustle on defense.
  11. Sounds like we did better this year. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211675724#.WfZhbDYEDBQ.email
  12. Finally we have some news through the Big Ten. On the Big Ten website Amy Williams has a 4 plus minute interview from today and couple of players will also be interviewed in the next couple of days. If you scroll down to the NU logo you can download our media guide as well. GBR. Beat Iowa. Also a related article on Huskers.com.
  13. Under the topic of Rachel B. update If you look at the team and staff picture posted by Norm on Sept. 8th you will see that Janay has a boot on her right foot at that time. Since that was over five weeks ago and coach Williams said she hoped Janay could be be ready for the first game in Nov. it must have been more then a slight ankle sprain. We need her for her substantial ball hawking and over all defense.
  14. Don't know about the 4 and 5 positions due to injury and the opportunity to change the style of play from those two positions since Shepard left so will not even try. I will stick with my previous post from months ago for the other 3 positions. Bria is a natural and talented point guard. Hannah fits the shooting guard well and Nicea has the physical toughness to scrap inside for rebounds and still handle the ball and shoot from the outside at the 3. My problem previously was where to put Janay but since she is hurt at present it will take some time to fit her in. Probably can play multiple positions coming off the bench. Irregardless of who starts everyone will get a chance to earn valuable minutes. I am looking for a big improvement in defense.
  15. Practice starts today.
  16. I think she's a freshman as are the other two commits she was talking about. All three 2021 commits. A big plus for Cook in recruiting top talent is his ability to coach them to become top international players and Olympians. No present women's college volleyball coach can compare in this area.
  17. If my calculations are correct our WBB team can start practice next Saturday which is 6 weeks before our first regular season game. Maybe we will see some articles about our team then. We sure have been getting them on the the mens team as of late. Anybody know how things are going with the team. It is amazing how a lot of stuff comes out on the men but nary a word on the women. Maybe no news is good news. Can't wait to get the season under way.

The past is the past. Can't change it but can certainly learn from it. Hopefully we have learned enough that the next AD can clean up this mess.

Don't think new coaches all over the place will happen. Maybe one big one over the next couple of weeks depending how the football team performs. A new AD will come and evaluate all programs looking for ways for the teams to improve. After football the only other possibility I see near term would be MBB coach depending on how the team does this year.
  20. Also she has a lot of family history with NU. GBR

Well I was hoping for news from this Forum but wasn't expecting this.
  22. The Nebraska football team just got upset as did the volleyball team. I turned to my favorite team which is NU WBB and as usual have found nothing in the news papers so I came here looking for anything to cheer me up. Anybody have anything positive?
  23. Hopefully the reason Janay has a walking boot on her right foot is not due to a serious injury.
  24. Notre Dame coach goes on to say that players transferring in must be able to contribute to the all important "team chemistry". Good luck with that one!
  25. A lot bigger stage to play on at NU then Creighton.
