  1. My favorite vision going forward. Kate rips down a rebound and immediately hits a guard starting down the court passing to a streaking Maddie for a layup.
  2. I'll be watching to see if Shepard has a better game against Michigan's Hallie Thome now that she is playing for Notre Dame then when she was playing for Nebraska. Also watching Chatrice White playing for Florida State against Megan Gustafson from Iowa should be interesting.
  3. Hard to watch so finally shut off sound for 2nd half. Much better. All I know is we finally since the start of last season won a game away from Pinnacle. Maybe the monkey is now off our back
  4. If Maddie didn't have bad luck she would have no luck. Falling out of bed and breaking her arm/wrist. Spraining your ankle during pregame warm ups. This really puts us in a bind at power forward. Jas is tough enough but not tall enough for that position and going from guard to PF is a big step. Look how long it took Maddie and Grace. Wow what an unfortunate occurrence. Grace is a good sub but not yet starting material.
  5. Creighton did in fact play some under classmen which took a little less then 50% of the minutes. All I'm saying is that youth and transfers in can hurt you at times early in the season but as it progresses should be less of an issue. How fast players develop then becomes the key.
  6. I know it's been said before but we are really young. 75% of team minutes played against Creighton came from freshmen and sophomores. Many of these players hadn't played together much as well. Practice is one thing but games under fire is a whole lot different. Janay our 3 year starter hasn't played in a game yet. It will be interesting to see what she can bring to the table when she does.
  7. It will be interesting this year if we can win away from home. Last year we never did.
  8. I don't feel down about the game at all. These type of games will pay dividends down the road. We still held them to 64 points even after they hit at least 2 3's right after getting offensive rebounds. As the game unfolded it seems to me that they had a better game plan then we did. And the Maddie situation happening right before tipoff caused us to have to modify our subbing with out any preparation time. Like Jas having to play some power forward. We missed too many free throws and it's rare that Agnew goes 6 out of 9 from three very often. We didn't quit but there will be nights when matchups are good for us and some when they aren't. Haber from Creighton had a great night passing the ball with 9 assists many of them resulted in 3's. I didn't see anything that couldn't be corrected in practice.
  9. Having the freak injury happen to Maddie during warmups put us in a bind in defending Creighton's smaller but agile forwards. They pass and shot the three well and Kate, Rachel and Darrien just weren't fast enough to get out front on Agnew who hit 6 of nine three's. On the positive side it was great to see Nicea out there doing her thing. Welcome back!
  10. One of the many things I like about coach Williams is that she knows exactly what she wants in recruiting. They need to fit her criteria. She talked Jas into staying last year and look how she has developed. One thing now that would help is more fans showing up for games and over time I think they will.
  11. What is clearer now then coach Williams first year here is what type of team and recruits she wants. We have shown improvement in many areas but will not know for awhile how far up the ladder of success we can climb until we get our injured players back and fully incorporated into the lineup. That includes how well Rachel's knee's hold up. We are in the stage of getting more experience for everyone and hopefully will not have any new injuries. Something that I have noticed so far this year is that many of the players are taking the opportunities that are there and not trying to force things. Most teams improve throughout the season but since we are so young our upside going forward may be higher then a veteran team on how much we can improve.
  12. We still have a long ways to go but I love how our players really hustle and care about each other. You can see it in their unselfish play. Our team is very young and will continue to learn more about each other and about the higher level of competition facing us. The next two games should give us a good indicator on our progress.
  13. You are right I don't have the privilege of knowing any of the parents and don't live close to Lincoln so only get my info from watching the games reading the papers and participating on this website. When I talked about bad chemistry the past 2 years I'm sure that not everyone agrees with that but I also said "I think" which is my opinion based only on my sources of info stated above.
  14. I think KearneyMan is actually a plant from Iowa and is a Hawkeye fan. As for decommits Doyle and Cayton I think it had more to due with the lousy team chemistry we had the past two years then any coaching change. What's done is done. I like who we have now and where we are going. GBR
  15. She seemed to get up and down the floor well. I didn't notice any limping. Hopefully she is approaching 100%. But we do play 4 games in a week and tonight's competition may be the weakest of the four. If Darrien can knock down her bunnies better she may get more playing time. I'm sure that with this many games in a short time they also want to limit Rachel's time in any one game.
  16. Be nice to see them back even in limited activity. Anybody have a prediction or info on their return?
  17. I went to the opener and then rewatched the game on BTN Plus when I got home. I watched Kate quite a bit and you could see she is very smooth in how she moves around for a post. She is very intelligent in positioning her self and has a nice touch around the basket. Her height and long arms are something I don't think we have had around here for awhile. She has a very even demeanor and runs the court well. Just one game but a big upside especially with the late start she got. Bria really sets her up nice and the two play well together.
  18. The one male ref was worse then the two females IMO.
  19. My thoughts go back to earlier posts before the season started about who would be our starters. I said I thought it would be Bria at point, Hannah at shooting guard and Nicea at the 3. I still feel that will be our best lineup at guard both offensively and defensively. Jasmine due to her less then sterling shooting skills, Janay and Taylor will fill up most of the guard reserve play. Look for Hannah to play point when Bria sits. As for the bigs, previously due to injuries I didn't offer any thoughts on who should start. After watching the two games things look a little clearer at least in my mind. I see Kate as the post and Maddie initially as the power forward for now. Maddie has been up and down and unless she can become more consistent I see Taylor playing some at that position maybe even starting. Rachel will still be a big contributor in many ways even with a limited amount of playing time coming off the bench. So by mid season if these players stay healthy I see it as follows. 1 Bria, 2 Hannah, 3 Nicea, 4 Taylor, 5 Kate. Final thoughts: Wow! Bria has all the tools and hustle that you want in a point guard and Kate is a tall. smart and gifted post that has a huge upside that we will have for 4 years.
  20. I think that the returning players on this years team have an attitude that last year was embarrassing on several fronts and are out to prove they can do a lot better this year.
  21. Apparently so do our current players and recently signed 2018 recruits.
  22. This World Herald article by Sam McKewon is in my thinking a very accurate depiction of where our our WBB program was at last year, is at now and where we may be going. Best newspaper article on the team in quite awhile. Can't wait for tomorrow's game. Hopefully the fans will fall in love with the new team chemistry and hustle and improve attendance. A winning season would be a big improvement. GBR
  23. Great point and very true. You can see already that as a team we are more confident, faster (Bria has really helped) and play well together helping each other out. We are still very young but trending upwards. Looking for a increased amount of steals and blocked shots.
  24. Good class which fills needs and provides depth going forward. For the class of 2019 we only graduate 2 seniors next year (Maddie and Darien) but will still have four scholarships available. Would be nice to get another post. Seems to me coach could afford to redshirt a player or two from the class of 2018 depending on injuries. I don't know if we will ever have a full roster with 15 scholarships. Nice to keep one or two in reserve. This makes three excellent classes in a row. The sophomore class with Nicea, Hannah, Rachel, Bria and Grace is still the nucleus of our team and if they would have all come together as a recruiting class in 2016 they would have been a highly rated class as well just like the 2017 and 2018 classes. We definitely are headed in the right direction. GBR
  25. Kate seems to have the good hands and foot control to do a great pick and roll. Had a nice one today. Also really nice to see the extra gear that Bria has.
