I was on the road all day so didn't get to watch the game yet but in reading the above comments and looking at the Stat Sheet the thing that stands out in addition to the turnovers is the lack of production from the bench. 10 points less in this game then Iowa. Need to find somebody there to step up.

In my opinion we don't have much to lose in trying different things as we may stumble on to something that suits us better in our match ups. That includes a different starting lineup in 2 positions.

Hallie Sample 4 year starter, All Big ten defensive player. Great rebounder. Good ball handler. Team Player.

i think her mom may be the teams VB coach. They have won 11 state championships in class 2A. She also seems to be willing to pass the ball and made some good ones from the Hudl highlights. The best thing is she is an 82% free throw shooter.

Guess what Norm. Life is full of big ifs. I prefer to take the optimistic approach and support the team as much as possible going forward.

According to my math which isn't always correct we have 13 presently on scholarship. Three of those are redshirted. Riley j. is still a walk-on for now but probably will be put on scholarship for next year just like Woody was after her freshmen season.. With Kissinger coming in and Allie and Esther graduating we will have 3 open assuming no one else leaves. If Riley does get a scholarship we will still have 2 open out of 15 for 2017.

Caveman you beat me to the punch on the statistics. On my long drive home from the game last night I was thinking how at the start of the 1st and 3rd quarters we were really outplayed. So I added up some of the stats. and came to the same conclusion you did. I would add to those the fact that the rebounds were very close and also that the starters averaged about 5 minutes more playing time each then the next 5. i don't want to speculate why several of our more experienced players are struggling but will be interested if coach Williams makes some changes going into conference play. With the exception of Nicea our starters looked tight and the freshmen looked relaxed. Grace really worked hard and has really shown improvement. Overall it was a fun night at PBA and the crowd gave a good round of applause for both teams at the conclusion of the game which was very classy. GBR.

Thanks redsteve I missed that. Guess I shouldn't have brought the topic up as it seems to have gotten some knots in a few peoples shorts. I do think that Kylee Jensen will go down as one of our biggest misses in recruiting.

Let me clear up what high level players mean to me. First of all stars and ratings have proven to be somewhat over rated at times. Many examples of such players exist. My definition are players who fit in and do well in a coaches program irregardless of their ratings. They continue to develop through out their careers. One of the best examples of this is Kaylee Jensen from the small school of Genoa Ne. She wasn't even rated by ESPN coming out of HS but has done quite well in her 3rd season at Oklahoma St. She is a 6' 4" post who as a soph. starter last year was 2nd team all Big 12 and is leading her undefeated team in most categories this year. She completely outplayed Chatrice White in the district finals their senior years of HS. Wasn't recruited very much by Yori.

It's pretty early in the scheme of things to get panicky now. Maybe disappointment is where we are at. Take a look at Tim Miles and the men's program. 5 years in and we lose to Gardner Webb at home by eight! I'm starting to panic there. Of all the players on this year's team only R. Jensen was recruited by Williams and she is still a walk-on. We only have 2 players now playing that will start next year. Help is on the way especially if Williams fills the open 3 scholarships for 2017 with high level players besides the three that have signed and a healthy Blackburn returns. I'm sure she now has a good idea as to what we will need going forward.

One additional note on BTN Plus is that if you only want to watch Nebraska games it's $80 per year versus $120 for access to all BTN teams.

I've watched most of the games either in person or on TV. On the way home from Lincoln today I was reflecting on our play against San Jose last night. The first half all of our players were in a fog except for Nicea. Bad passes, poor defense and shooting etc. Nicea is the one who consistently plays outside of this fog. She makes good decisions, is tough, knowledgeable of what we are trying to do and has a complete game. Is she perfect? No. but for a 3 star freshman she is already one of the mainstays of our team. Last night in the 2nd half for whatever reason the fog lifted for the rest of the team and we really put it together albeit against an inferior team. Let's hope the fog continues to lift and more sunny days are ahead for us.

Red Don, Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Just got back from Lincoln. Yes you can watch the replays on slow motion which is a great tool in evaluating a play. BTN Plus may not be perfect but it's a lot better then just listening to the audio. I use it a lot. The student announcers are funny at times to listen to but it is a great way for them to get their foot in the door.

You should be able to rewind the game to pick up a late start or to review certain plays or watch it all again later.

I was at the game and very disappointed in the referees. Many times the Cal coach would talk to one of them and shortly thereafter something would be called on us. That being said we are going to suffer greatly when games get physical and Ref's let them play. We are in desperate need of a good or great ball handling point guard. We have been very spoiled in the last 7 years with Moore and Theriot. The biggest disappointment to me is when we have players trying to do too much and routinely attempting those things that they are not good at.
-
Irregardless of the issues we have this year I believe that many of them will be solved by next year. Our new coach will get to see them first hand this year as we are going through a very tough transition. I don't see her not correcting those issues. She probably knew about some of them coming in but don't see her as one to just let negative things ride.

As far as improvements go it wasn't too long ago that we were concerned about our shooting. Even though we could be more consistent it has gotten much better especially considering the last game was a true road game. It will be good to get home and get a few more practices in. Little by little I see improvement happening.
-
One thing that bothers me is the assist to turnover ratio of our 3 posts. After 7 games they have 19 assists and 49 turnovers between them. I know everyone is collapsing on us in the paint but that must leave some one open. Maybe we just aren't good passers at that position. The worst part is that is coming from players who have been in the program 4 years, 3 years and two years with the latter a 5 star recruit. We need a big improvement there as a lot of it comes down to decision making.
-
Well KearneyMan if that's what you think you'll be taking your great support else where and we won't have to hear from you again.
-
With 2 redshirted transfer guards and with A 5 star wing coming in next year what we really need is a couple of forwards that will be ready for prime time next season. With Allie graduating and Darien in a limited role we need a starter and another backup. Rachel should fill in if recovery is successful but with all the bigs in the conference you don't want to get caught short there.
-
I think you are right. It's only right as a freshmen you play your self into a starting role.
-
Here's how I look at who should start between Hannah and Esther. In the last game Esther started at point guard and brought the ball down the court the first 3 times. She had 2 turnovers and would have had a 3rd except the defense got called for kicking the ball. She is better coming off the bench. Besides she is a senior where Hannah is a freshmen. Who do you think has the best upside? Also Hannah so far in 4 games has 1 turnover with 9 assists. Esther has 4 turnovers with 7 assists. Pretty much equal playing time. I will admit that Esther is playing better then I expected.
-
I've always felt that it isn't always the amount of time you play but how you play when getting even a small amount of playing time. Last night we had two examples of players only getting a few minutes each but they were high quality contributions. Grace M. and Emily W. both had offensive rebounds during crunch time ending up with Grace's put back basket and Woody's 2 free throws. Those 4 points were crucial in the game outcome. It also speaks a lot for coach to use them at that time. Those things are what helps team chemistry.

WBB: Game #3 vs Colorado State - 3rd Round Pre-season WNIT
HUD replied to Row6Seat10's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
I agree with what was said above. For Allie the physical part of her game is her weak point both on offense and defense. You could see last night that as we start moving the ball better at times from understanding the offense we started to get a few more open shots. I think her offense will come around more as this happens as we need it. Also as the guards continue to improve we will see more opportunities for her. -
WBB: Game #2 vs Mizzou - 2nd Round Preseason WNIT
HUD replied to Row6Seat10's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
The thing that was the most alarming to me was that our 3 most experienced players Shepard, Havers and Cincore were just 4 of 32 from the field and had 6 of our 10 turnovers. Many of their shots were forced and they didn't play good defense much of the night. Jas definitely has an attitude but not sure it's the right one for the game of basketball.
