Why are all these news stations reporting like oh, the poor family, and the end is near, and oh, this is tragic? WHAT?! She's 96 years old! And she was the frickin' QUEEN! Of ENGLAND! She got a hell of a lot longer time than most people do and most of that time came while she was the QUEEN! Of ENGLAND! Don't let me hear any of that "thoughts and prayers" stuff. Save that for some 40-year-old brick layer who got taken out by a drunk driver and leaves behind a wife and 4 kids. When Betty shuffles off, just give her a high-5 on the way out the door and say "dayum, girl, you did it good." /vent

Them: That sounds like a lot of sour grapes on the Chase Clemmons de-commit. Us: Nah, man, have you seen his recruiting thread?

I have this same theory about Husker sports as I had with the price of gas except kind of in reverse. See, the price of gas skyrockets, everyone goes "Holy Sh!t would you look at that!" and then it settles back by about 15-20 cents per gallon and everyone's like, "whew, price of gas, back down, man. I was just paying $4.35 the other day and now it's all the way back to $4.20." Yeah, so we used to win 17, 18, 19 games per season in basketball or 9 or 10 games per season in football. Man, them are some high expectations! Bring in a couple of new coaches and that drops to like 7 wins in hoops and 3 wins in football. Next time we bring in new coaches, say we bounce up to like .500, we're all going to be feeling fat and happy like pigs in slop. See, there's a way of diminishing our expectations: take us to a level that's shockingly bad and then ease off on it just a bit and we'll all be like, hey, yeah, that's a lot better.

Jaysker lurkers be like "OK, now I gotta google Lance Leipold."

Man, you got something rolling there. It's all over the place now.

How many people are hearing Urban Meyer rumors that seem like there's real smoke and not just fans exhaling marijuana?

A few years back, someone (I believe someone on here) who had attacked Tom Osborne as AD was almost bragging, being "that guy" and doing a "told ya so" about how poorly TO's coaching hires for the big three men's sports were doing. Those three coaches would have been ... Bo Pelini (whose Husker football teams never won fewer than 9 games in a season); Tim Miles (with three post-season appearances in basketball, including an NCAA); and Darin Erstad (four NCAA baseball tourney appearances in 8 seasons). So, uh, Bill Moos's major men's coaching hires aren't doing so well, eh? Be nice to return to the days of only being as bad as the coaches TO hired.

I didn't really follow it but I think the cute blonde chick with the dragons gets shivved by like her boyfriend or something.

135 in the nation might be a bit optimistic, but I'm pretty sure we can hold down 14th place in conference.

We open as 2-TD favorites in this one. I'm hoping we beat the spread. I'd like to see some generally penalty-free football by the offense. Holding happens from time to time. But no false starts, please. No procedure penalties. For goodness' sake, no delay-of-game because you couldn't get a play in after a timeout or change of possession. I want to see efficient execution by the offense. I want to see them moving the chains. I want to see a good mix of running and passing and I want to see us attack all parts of the field. On defense, I want to see them wrapping up ball carriers. I don't want to see missed tackles. And I want to see us getting to the QB in passing situations. I want to see their QB get hit, knocked on his butt a lot, and sacked on third-and-long from time to time. Ochuan do that thang you do.

Oh, believe me, I'm still skeptical. And, in fact, skeptical isn't really the right word because it's not so much that I doubt whether they can get it done; instead, I'm still quite confident they cannot. HOWEVER, rather than questioning whether I want to go to the game tonight or have my fingernails removed, I am now quite confident that this will be a group of players I will want to go cheer for.

OK, that dude just said everything I would have wanted him to say. He's a fan just like us? Knows how it feels to be a Husker basketball fan because he's been one? Knows the history? Wants to leave a lasting impact in his one season here? Alright, let's do this. I'm on board.

I guess he didn't study enough.

Same. In fact, I am ready to give up playing hoops forever if someone wants to pay me $5million. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I see that my old friend @Swan88was not amused by my attempt at humor. In my defense, let me just say I’ve been sucked in by the hype before, especially last year, and was bitterly disappointed. I’m taking a decidedly “Prove it“ approach this season as a defense mechanism for my mental health. If we can put the pieces together this year, I am hopeful for a full recovery and a return to my usual sunshine pumping state.

Also, while I think he would technically have two years of eligibility left, this is clearly a one year proposition. He’s only coming back to school if he thinks he’s got a shot at the NBA at the end of this year.
-
He’s a former NBA prospect. He has a $5 million insurance policy if he’s not able to play anymore. If he is contemplating returning to the floor, he must think his health has been restored and that he can compete again on a very high level. Otherwise, he’d take the $5 million and walk away.

Interesting hypothetical. Well, if the new staff hires can coach, and if Hoiberg gets out of their way and takes on more of a Frost CEO role, and if they actually hold players accountable to meeting high expectations both on and off the court, and if the players all stay healthy, and if some of the guys actually exceed expectations, and if we can find a distributor in this group who can play at a high level, I'd be willing to hope that we could move into maybe the top 13 or top 12 in conference. That's a lot of "ifs" though, so I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.

This. Who needs a scholarship opening when you have Dave's Drywall and Plumbing Supply and other such businesses willing to pay several times the cost of tuition to have a tall kid with some hoops skill tweet about their businesses a couple of times per week?
-
Nope. Nothin left at 4 p.m. that was any better than what I already got. There's still room on the end if anyone wants to snatch up those chairs.
