Again, I'm sorry my attempt at humor offended you. I wasn't trying to step on any toes; I'm genuinely surprised at your reaction. I thought the reference to the fire swamp from "The Princess Bride" was quite apropos. And I thought the unicorn would bring some levity to the discussion. I was obviously wrong. These periods of adversity bring out the worst in us. People aren't as interested in laughing about things. It's one of the reasons I started an off-topic thread about barbecue sauce: I wanted us to have something to connect with that wasn't controversial. I think we're nearing the end of an era for Husker hoops. To me, that's always a sad thing. I don't see much chance that Miles will be our coach next year. I think I've been pretty clear about that for a very long time. Since before the season, I predicted he'd either leave of his own accord or get shown the door. I think we're looking at the latter of those two situations. I don't know that I ever "went on an island for Miles." I've always wanted all the coaches we've had to do well here. I'll want the next one to do well. I won't apologize for defending coaches from criticism that I think is unfair. And I'm not going to go out of my way to attack the coach, either. If that makes people think I'm "on an island" for a coach, so be it. Not going to lose sleep over that characterization. But let me be clear: I recognize Miles ain't perfect. There are holes in his game, so to speak. But he checks as many of the boxes as any coach we've had here in awhile and his wittiness and charm at media days and social media savvy brought Husker hoops some favorable attention. He's not going to be the subject of insulting memes like Francis "Psycho" McCaffrey. And he wasn't bland like Barry Collier. This is a guy you had to hope would do well here. And if you didn't hope for that, then you're kind of effed up in my opinion. And I think picking coaches is a crapshoot and while the next guy might be really good at things Miles wasn't so good at, it's also highly probable he won't check off all the boxes either. But, whoever it is, you can know right now that as long as he's officially the head coach of the Huskers, I'll have his back. Unapologetically.

It's about time for some off-topic

I usually prefer local to corporate, but Famous Dave's does some first rate barbecuing. -
It's refreshing to know how easy it is to win in basketball at Nebraska. You just need a guy who isn't outmatched on the game strategies, understands analytics to overcome the lack of talent, and can recruit or have a staff that excels at it. It's that simple. I think I found a picture of our next coach:

+1. Parkers is good. There's Phat Jack's on West O. Ain't bad. I had pork belly burnt ends there once, which were pretty good. I've since made them a couple of times at home. Mine were more tender, but they're really fatty. Taste great, but really fatty. But you gotta love that Maillard reaction. -

Easleys are fine. Money isn't an issue. I don't know where you came up with that. -
I don’t want to be rude, but this is a really obtuse take. I’m not even sure how to explain this because you’re missing the point at such a basic level. But let me just say this isn’t about Miles or whether he should keep his job, so all of that stuff about seven years of evidence completely misses the mark.

Try some Rufus Teague and get back to me. Meanwhile, sound off with your personal favorite sauce. -
No, the standard was always "make the dance." It wasn't even "win a game" though that was the hoped-for conclusion. But being in bubble contention would not only have made a difference to the narrative for the fans, it would have also provided an extra spring in the steps of the players on the team.

I bought a gallon -- that's right, a gallon -- of Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple barbecue sauce the other day. I have tasted a crap ton of different barbecue sauces in my time, and this is easily the best I've ever had. Period. Absolutely fantastic on smoked brisket. If you make some burnt ends, this is the sauce I'd go with. It has a complexity and depth of flavor that goes incredibly well with smoked beef or pork. I have had sauces in the past where they tried to be a little different, and it never really sailed with me. Habanero this or mango that or Carolina mustardish whatever else. Too different from "normal" barbecue sauce. But the Rufus Teague has a certain je ne sais quoi that just really hits a sweet spot. They don't share their recipe, so I don't quite know what they've done different, but I'd suggest picking up a $5.00 bottle at Hy-Vee or Scheels or wherever and give it a try. Just a culinary suggestion from your buddy Norm.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding this had nothing to do with past tweets, present tweets or future tweets critical of anyone or anything connected with the Nebraska Athletic Department or otherwise.

I miss Markowski. No offense to Jake, but I thought Markowski's color was often really insightful and it's probably because he was coaching on a high level for a time and so saw things in a way that even a high level player might not.

Am I going to get in trouble for quoting the quote of Rowland quoting McCaffrey's profanity?

I would have loved to have seen a completely healthy Husker roster (and Jack Riggins or whoever else to work with them) for this season. I was one of the guys who thought Karrington Davis would be able to contribute. Would have loved to have seen the benefit of the added depth that a healthy Karrington Davis would have added to this squad. Alas, it was not meant to be. We're finally in a position to do some damage and crap like this happens. Just feel snakebit.

Honestly? I think the results would have been similar. We had very little margin for error with our lack of depth. We needed those starters to be healthy all year long. Most years they are. Doesn't often happen that we lose a key contributor to a season-ending injury. A few years back, we lost Anton Gill, but his productivity prior to being hurt was already limited and so it didn't have much of an effect. This was not the year we could afford to have that happen. Although, we could probably have absorbed losing JPJ slightly better than losing Cope just because we had more depth in the backcourt.

If you can throw 8-10 million/year at a new coach without batting an eye, well, you've got deeper pockets than I have. I admire your good fortune, friend, and I appreciate your willingness to dig into your own resources to pay for our next basketball coach. That's awfully generous of you. I think I can speak on behalf of all similarly situated Husker fans everywhere that we will owe you a big debt of gratitude for your anticipated generosity. 8-10 million. That must be one hell of a bank account you're sitting on.
