Nailed it. Can't wait for the game and Legends day!!!

First of all, let's beat the Hawks!!! Wanted to give us all some food for thought as we finish up the season, and even as we head into next year regarding social media. A former player from last year's team who is in Lincoln for Legends weekend came up to Omaha this morning to watch my 8 year old son play his youth basketball game. Absolutely made my son's season by surprising him. Anyway, we went out to lunch and I had a chance to talk to him about a number of different subjects regarding this year's team and life as a Division I basketball player. We specifically talked about the pressure the players feel, and talked about Walt and Tai. He said nobody feels worse for missing a shot, turning the ball over, or making a mistake than the player's themselves. They'll hear about it at film review, from student's in class, rehash it at night, and lose sleep over it. But Walt and Tai have both been harassed on Social Media outlets this year that I think has gone to the extreme. After the Maryland game, some "fans" actually tagged Tai's Instagram account in the official Instagram account of Nebraska Basketball (Husker Hoops) and blamed him solely for the loss. One comment tagged him and said "thx for costing us the game" He also received direct messages asking "why u suck so bad?" so he temporarily shut down his account. Walt's been called out on social media as well for his play. I know that the people who are doing this aren't truly fans, and I would be absolutely surprised if any of them were on this board. This post isn't calling anyone out on this board, specifically, but it was eye opening for me to hear first hand from a former player that these young men we cheer for at PBA get subjected to some fairly harsh comments and even heckled by our own so called "fans" I think this puts Coach Miles in a tough spot. He loves him some Twitter and embraces the power of Social Media. Unfortunately, that power can be challenging for a 19 year old kid to deal with if he's getting harassed on Facebook and Twitter. I'm sure some will reply that the players should just stay off social media or simply "ignore" comments, but that's kind of unrealistic for a college student, and hard to ignore when they are getting private messages sent to them. I like social media, and it's not going away. I would urge the "good" fans, if we see instances of players specifically getting called out, to support the player and try to nip the negativity in the bud. GBR!

Guys, I know we see Terran on the court and from an outsiders perspective, that's all we have to go on, as far as judgement. As per usual, there's typically more to the story. I know this isn't an excuse for many, but it does shed a significant amount of light into his personal situation. Sometimes it's easy to forget that these guys are 18-22 year old young men dealing with life issues besides basketball. My 8 year old son attended a few Husker basketball camps in the past and he was lucky enough to have Terran as one of his "coaches". I can't say enough good things about how he was engaged and focused on those kids. It wasn't something that he did 50% or 60%. A few months passed, and my son attended the Husker buddies event. Terran and Shavon both recognized my son and took the time to ask him how he was doing in school and with basketball, really cool stuff that college kids don't have to do. Terran also took the time to work with my boy on a couple of dribble moves. In all of my conversations with Terran, he's been very courteous and respectful. I know we haven't always seen that in regards to some of the emotions out on the court, but he's an emotional guy. Thoughts and Prayers to him and his family.

Was at the game last night. DVR'd game, per usual. Watched all of the controversial plays. Norm, you are absolutely correct on the calls being inconsistent. 51.4 seconds in the half. Dekker shoots a free throw, Walt rebounds, Kaminsky reaches in, makes contact, no call. At a different time of the game, after a Wisconsin player got a rebound, Rivers reached in and made far less contact and immediately got called for the foul. What was the difference? Kaminsky getting NBA treatment? Right before half, Webster did NOT get fouled on the floor, first contact by #13 was in the air in the act of shooting. That should have counted and been AND 1. They call the foul actually on #3 Showalter. Then Petteway's drive to the basket, where Kaminsky and Petteway make contact. Dakich says "to me that's NEVER called in college basketball." Until Bald dude works the game. That was a rough 51 second stretch.

This the same Dorsey that told Gottfried to "Shut his !@#$ Ass Up" during an NC State vs. UNC game? Oh, here's the link: http://www.sportsgrid.com/ncaa-basketball/acc-ref-shut-up/

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 24 - Wisconsin

Which one was the Bald guy who overruled in Wisconsin's favor like three times. He called the offensive foul on Petteway just before the half...and then overruled when Kaminksy traveled, he came racing in from halfcourt and overruled the call and called a foul on us. He needs to look himself in the mirror tomorrow morning and get a new profession. -
The student's sitting behind the basket need a lesson on what constitutes a good distraction during a free throw. Here's a hint....it's not bending over and pounding the bleachers/floor. That just makes noise. Division I players are used to shooting FT's during noise. It's harder to concentrate if there are visual distractions. Wave your hands back and forth, CONSTANTLY. Don't do that pansy thing where 350 of you all hold your hands to the right and then try to perfectly time it to move all your hands to the left just as the shooter releases the ball. Statistically, that almost guarantees they will make it. Do the Daniel Bryan constant hands up in the air..and yell out "No! No! No!" Do the friggin' Harlem Shake or ride the pony Gangnam Style....But tighten it up and GBR!

I watched Walt's highlight video about a dozen times. Showed it to my fellow Football fans to get them interested. Told them we had a poor man's Kevin Durant. (Yes, that was a blatant lie, I knew he wasn't) Some of those highlights show him driving and dunking, but most show him shooting three's.......foreshadowing.

Ah yes, that was during a timeout in the second half. I actually saw 7 security guards, 3 of which were Armed form a wall to stop the lower section so the refs could leave, and each ref had an armed police officer walk them through the tunnel. The Bald one had a smirk on his face. What is his name? I'd like to have a chat with him.

At times tonight, I thought someone was actually going to storm the court and attack the bald one. The Bald one was the worst, followed by the dark haired one. The lesser of the three evils was the other one. How many times did the bald guy overrule somebody else. How about on Kamisky's travel towards the end of the game, when he then called a foul on us??? AFTER the ref closest to the call called a travel. From my section, I saw Security having a planning meeting to get those refs out of there and avoid contact with the crowd. Right before half, I saw a police officer talk to two guys sitting baseline about them booing too loudly. F that. I paid for my season tickets, I can boo to express my disagreement in a horsecrap call if I want to. Or is that against Big 10 rules too, like not showing the replays???

I've watched just about every minute, from the highs to the garbage, of every NU basketball game Walt has played. For the life of me, I can't ever remember him dropping one of those three's after doing his little stand on his tippy toe pump fake, take a dribble, step back and then shoot a more contested three then he had to begin with. Maybe he always drills them in practice that way. Doubt it.

I read the original post and kept thinking...."Mike Riley!!!!" just kidding guys. I'm giving the new guy a chance. I would hope coach Miles would exert his will on the team more so than an assistant, but this could very well be part of it.
-
We have one of the best one two punch combos in the Big 10. We have a team thats right there. We can play with anyone if we actually play well. We have a big man who can break out any day with shooting the three. We have the coach. Shall I keep going? No one said it will happen, but everyone bitching that it wont is worrying. Real "fans" never say never. Hope the players don't have the same attitude as some one this board. Agreed, but most of those are based on "If's" and this season, they have been BIG IFS and it just isn't happening. But I'm still going to go to the remaining games and lose my voice cheering them on.

Our mental toughness is probably the main thing that has disappointed me this season. Veteran group who had success last year, and Coach Miles blames slow starts and bad games to previous losses. After a slow start vs. UNO, he said it was all because they were still affected from the Rhode Island game. That should have been a major RED flag. What did they think, they were going to win them all? It's not like in football, where the Rhode Island game knocked them out of the BCS playoff....but they acted like it. Then when we lost to Incarnate Word, Miles said it's because of the Creighton game still affecting us. Got to have short memories.
