Game Day Essentials: Game #22 vs Northwestern
Red Don replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
SHIELDS WATCH !!! Shavon is only 9 points away from his 1,000th Career Point! (only 25 Huskers have previously attained this level) Let's keep our longest losing streak for the year at two! -
Kudos Norm, for this thread! A lot of great discussion and thoughts, all of them positive (not a 'negative nancy' among them). I'd give everyone contributing an automatic +1 if I could. (I really didn't mean to give "Dimes' that down arrow (finger-twitch)) I'm sure the coaching staff is tearing their hair out (all except Harriman, of course) trying to figure out how to right the ship and get back to a higher level of play. Defense has been stellar, but no matter how good it is, Defense won't win the game if you can't score!

I do believe that sums it up pretty well! (But there is still plenty of Basketball left to play this season ) In another thread someone asked what our expectations should be for next year? Speaking (only) for myself, I'm 'Cautiously Optimistic' (rather than 'Irrationally Over- Exuberant')

Game Day Essentials: Game #21 vs Minnesota
Red Don replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Coach Miles has said in interviews some (unspecified) change-ups may be in order. Expect the Unexpected?? (But don’t look for the Black Unis!) Shavon Shields (16.6 ppg & 15 pts last game vs MN) is only 20 points away from 1,000 career points (word is father, Will Shields, will be named as a nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday evening). -
Video Availability of upcoming Husker Games
Red Don replied to Red Don's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Not the 'Smileys' that bother me, 49r. (more the 'Frownies') I'm limited to a max of 15 per post; Meaning we can only have 2 more losses in the remaining games (howszat for a run; 8-2. Puts us right where we need to be for a repeat). -

Hi Norm. Not trying to answer for AuroranHusker, but I also mentioned 'easy shots' in the game thread hskr4life, on 27 Jan 2015 - 4:45 PM, said: (sorry but I haven't mastered the art of quoting functionality yet) "RedDon said: ++++ We make any of those easy shots in the first half and we're way ahead!" One example might be the dunk Walt missed earlier in the game. (IIRC, didn't Walt also have a reverse dunk, when he was feeling good in the B1G tourny, I think, late last year, that he missed, & things started to go downhill from there?) Now I think it's just frustration (i.e I'll show just how hard I can Dunk- so hard it bounces right back out) but it seems symptomatic of the season we're having. Back to your question. You're probably right, there are no 'easy' shots; Maybe it should be 'easier' shots. That is shorter-range, higher-percentage shots. Without going back to watch the tape (not sure I could take it) I think you'd probably agree there were a lot of shots the Huskers took in the paint that you'd expect to make that just weren't falling - the failure to fall-in seemingly feeding on itself.

Really man? He has hit our only three. He is not a big time scorer. Yes he will occasionally hit an open three. I think he is fine. We have lots of threats out there to score. I'm not talking about our other guys. I love Benny. I'm a huge fan of the energy and defense that he brings. Benny is NOT a threat to score. Yes, he can hit free throws. But when you catch the ball on the baseline, don't shoot, dribble and then pass it up to the top of the key...repeatedly, you are NOT a threat to score. It's why teams sag off of him, which creates spacing problems for the rest of our offense. Miles himself said teams last year over-respected Gallegos and it's been a major difference this year not having an additional threat to score. It just frustrates me, that's all. We need Benny's defensive efforts. But on pace to score 36 total points in this game, we need more scoring. Hammer; Meet Nail!
