When OKC signed Al Horford, I thought they were going to make him the offensive feature in hopes of increasing his trade value. The guy is approaching 35 years old, makes a team-high $27.5MM this season, and has $69MM/3 years guaranteed remaining. Over the past few years, he's tried to add a 3-point shot to his arsenal with limited success. But this year, his quickness has slowed so much that OKC is forced to use him in a floor-spacing role. Which means all he does is set screens and pop-out for catch-and-shoot jumpers which he just so happens to be horrible at. Defensively, he's limited to being more of a rim-defender as the lack of quickness prohibits him from effectively closing-out and defending the perimeter. Maybe this improves a little when he rejoins the team and gets into some sort of playing shape, but seems unlikely. Couple the abhorrent performance on the court with him taking what's become a two-week sabbatical to witness the birth of his fourth child, this is exactly the type of "veteran leadership" you do not want in the youngest locker room in the league. tl;dr The Thunder need to move on from Horford and give Roby the ball and the bag

Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)
MitchMcGaryMunchies replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hard to hold a grudge against anyone that's just trying to maximize their exposure during a very narrow window of opportunity. I personally want the best for any former Husker and the existence of this thread would seem to indicate most others do, as well. Sallis, like any other recruit with one-and-done ambitions wants to play in nationally-televised games. He can't achieve that here, but I hope he does elsewhere and that his success leads to increased exposure for other local players in the future. -

2021 C Wilhelm Breidenbach - LOI
MitchMcGaryMunchies replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Video highlights just went up on YouTube. Not the most exciting highlights, but here are some timestamps of Breidenbach's action and my commentary : 0:38 - Announcers talk up Breidenbach in the pregame before the tip 2:05 - Breidenbach cleans-up a rebound off a missed layup but bricks his follow-up 3:05 - Breidenbach fakes hand-off to guard and drives ball into paint, turns over right shoulder and leaves left-handed hook shot short 3:32 - Breidenbach steps back and misses a deeeeep baseline 2-pointer 4:22 - Breidenbach playing defense 30-feet from the hoop, contests a pass which results in a steal 5:32 - Breidenbach hits a 3 from elbow 6:47 - Breidenbach challenges dunk opportunity in transition 7:07 - Another 3 from the elbow by Breidenbach 8:25 - Breidenbach corrals a terrible entry pass into the post and hits a nice hook shot 9:21 - Breidenbach fakes a hand-off and drives into the post, stops and pivots into turn-around shot, gets rejected, and results in transition dunk 9:41 - Ensuing possession, Breidenbach again attempts to drive the ball into the post, nearly has ball stolen by a helping Oakland Fort, and puts up a tough shot with left hand 10:27 - Breidenbach's man screens Oakland Fort's defender as the ball rotates to the top of the key. Breidenbach caught ball-watching as Fort slips past on an easy backdoor cut, ball passes right by Breidenbach who seems a bit lost by the action. 10:45 - Breidenbach runs away from the hoop and his man on a layup attempt, instead of moving into position for a rebound *Breidenbach pulled for a few minutes after this 12:15 - Breidenbach's man screens ballhandler at top of the key and Breidenbach rotates and collapses into lane to challenge layup attempt 12:29 - Breidenbach slaps at ball and dislodges it, steal recovered by teammate; Breidenbach sprints down the floor and receives and outlet pass, then drives into the lane and hits left-handed floater I was generally impressed by his range and repertoire of shots in the post. Very active hands on defense. Seemed to really struggle when he tried to create his own shots. -

My unreasonably optimistic take on his recruiting video footage... If you squint, this kid looks like a young KD out there...both in his game and shooting form. So similar with that high release point and slight follow-through with the thumb of the guide hand. Sadly, also in lack of upper body strength.

Tyronn flew down to Houston yesterday, interviewing with the Rockets today. JVG supposedly has an interview scheduled later this week, as well.

If a tree falls in the forest...

As a whole, was really impressed with how many younger players shined in the bubble. Incredible to see rookies like Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn playing the minutes they did in the Finals. And was really cool to see a little older guys like Jimmy Butler, Jamal Murray, Donovan Mitchell, etc. really show that they are superstars. The league is going to be in good hands when LeBron turns 65 and finally retires. -

No ex-Nebraska players involved? 2020 Finals not exactly an anomaly... No interesting storylines? The league and players spent the last three months amidst a massively risky logistical nightmare and came out on top. During a summer of intense political unrest, no less. The NBA has done more to instill confidence in the populace with regard to our ability to contain and limit spread of the virus than the federal government has. And that isn't even up for debate lol You could've just given us the abridged version and owned-up to your true feelings. But maybe you're saving that post for 4chan -

Our man Fred catching a body on Twitter today -
It is difficult to shoot a 3-pointer when you're chuckling over the hesi that sent the defender into another zip code

Also looks like he will be the perfect match for our top-200 3-pt defense Don't think I've ever seen a guy leap so recklessly at a gather. You should at least wait for the ball fake before making yourself look this foolish

Sophomore Joe would've been a tough competitor in like...a hot dog eating contest? Freshman Joe shot a little higher volume and played with a little more pace than his sophomore self, but still not anywhere near the level of talent or athletic ability that Cam has currently. Only thing Joe could ever do efficiently was turn the ball over, whereas Cam has been in the Top 25 in assist-to-turnover ratio for most the season (fell off a bit near the end). The only real comparison between the two is the poor shot selection. But Cam is playing in an uptempo offense where extra possessions are encouraged. Joe just gave zero f*cks. I think Joe was suspended 3 or 4 times for missing team functions, violating rules, and not attending practice before he was ultimately dismissed. The team absolutely despised the guy by that time as he wouldn't ever compete in practice and then eventually just stopped showing-up. He was given a chance to apologize to his teammates and he chose not to.

In the case of Penn, revenge is a dish best served cold and 26.5 years later -
Old news, but James Palmer Jr. dropped 40 points to earn a 121-120 victory for the Agua Caliente Clippers against the Northern Arizona Suns. Shot an ultra-efficient 15-19 FG. Only took two 3-pointers and made one (transition pull-up from elbow). Palmer is currently ranked fourth in the G League in PPG and is tied for fifth in Efficiency. Link to box score and full game: https://gleague.nba.com/games/20191109/ACCNAS/ I believe Palmer is free to sign with any team. Wouldn't be surprised if a couple Huskers log their first NBA minutes soon. He's playing tonight at 5PM CST if anyone wants to watch the action online.

Take away the TOs and he had a very efficient night. Two of those turnovers came on back-to-back possessions where he was trying to do way too much. One the first one he basically went isolation from half court and lost the ball on the dribble. The next possession he caught the ball in the post, quickly got double-teamed, and had his outlet pass deflected and stolen. Once they set his role, he's going to shine on this team.

For anyone in need of a G League primer on Affiliate Players: https://gleague.nba.com/affiliate-players/ Essentially, JPJ is one of six players (two two-way, four affiliate) the Clippers have chosen to retain under contract from pre-season play. JPJ has decided to sign a G League contract so he is automatically assigned to the Clippers' G League affiliate, but he still has the flexibility of being a free agent able to sign an NBA contract with any team that offers.

Also, Roby was inactive again for tonight's game against the Blazers. He was at the arena but did not dress.
