Maryland (17-6) vs. Nebraska (13-9) Game Thread

Easily the best passer on the team. Not close. Bummer that his shooting has gotten worse since he arrived, which seems to be a common theme. -

Effort is there. That is a very good sign that they haven't checked out. Need a win and then hope that Palmer and Watson get it figured out down the stretch. No margin for error now. Cannot lose any winnable games. -

These are things the good or great coaches have ready to go as second nature. It is instinctual. Miles does not have good instinctual coaching ability. That is why things happen like the awful Ohio St. loss at the buzzer a year or two ago. He is certainly in the bottom group in this league in strategic and instinctual coaching ability. -
How did you find yourself blessed with his presence? Are you one of his 3 followers?

You act as if recruiting to Nevada is the same as recruiting to power 5 school. If a coach has the "it factor" which I believe he does, then he will figure out what needs to be done here. If it is transfers it is fine if the coach knows what he is doing, but it is a tough route to sustain consistency. And Nevada won't sustain that level of success either. They nailed the perfect recipe, similar to how we did.

I think that might be our best lineup at this point. But Palmer has got to be willing to rebound the hell out of the ball for it to work. -

I think his problem is that he is more comfortable coaching small ball, and that is a very hard way to win in this league. We had the stars align with transfers and had it set up this year. Then everything went to shit. It really is not a sustainable recipe to be good year in and year out. -

Certainly the most willing rebounder it appears. -

Pretty good idea IMO. He isn't a great player but he gives us a creative dimension we sorely need, given our inability to run a solid offense. -

We probably have to play Thor quite a bit. He is easily our best passer and we are an awful passing team. -

It is just sad really. That is all that really needs to be said. So many reasons why it is sad. -
Good call. Him taking on Cope offensive load is a pretty good idea.

Way better at getting to the rim and finishing. Way better at rebounding. Way better at defense. He is lacking a burst like you mentioned. He is smart on defense though, so his range and length allow him to give a little ground to not get beat, while still contesting shots because of his length. He also has matured a great deal IMO. A little more business and a little less hot dog to his game now. He still makes flashy plays, but less low percentage plays like he made in the past.

Who best knows Nebraska basketball

An extra couple million is really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of a budget with a full revenue share from the conference. We need to aim high, not be afraid to get rejected, and hope that the challenge and fit seems right for someone. If that doesn't work then pony up for Marshall or Sampson. There is no doubt in my mind, we could become a consistent tourney team under their guidance. Part of it is that they hate to lose and develop players well(I know Marshall is great at this, Sampson I think is but not as sure). Whoever we get must be good at X and O, developing players, and at least a decent recruiter. -
We are going to have to become a defensive team now. We have to play elite defense. Get the best combinations out there that can do that. And then the reality is we are going to have to live and die with even more hero ball out of Palmer and Watson. They are going to have to take more shots and they are going to have to play a lot better, especially Palmer.

The more I watch Baylor Scheierman the more I think he can be a very good d1 player. After watching us lay bricks non stop it would be refreshing to have a shooter. Not saying I would have recruited him at the time but I wouldn’t be shocked if he could play at a better than summit league level.
