He needs to support his family, so I'm guessing he's hoping for a Creighton or Kansas offer.

Context? Other than we've reached out, of course.

Just wait. Now that the B1G's reputation is hanging by a thread, a 22-win, fourth-place team will end up having to play a road game in the first round of the NIT.
-
Fred's rebuild should be quicker knowing that we're playing in a mid-major conference.

Residents of the nation's fourth most-obese state might do well to start pacing about right now. They Hawkeyes need them.

No matter Trevor's role on game days, his presence as a competitive player in practice will help everybody.
-
Actually, there are 90 teams left: 68 NCAA teams, 8 teams in the CBI, and the 14 remaining in the NIT after last night's games.

Texas A&M. Pretty sure they just lost the "v."

This is a great story about the Arlee Warriors, a team from the Flathead Reservation in Montana: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/04/magazine/arlee-warriors-montana-basketball-flathead-indian-reservation.html If you can't read the New York Times, it's a story about how the residents rallied around the basketball team after a string of teen suicides on the reservation. The team recorded a string of suicide prevention videos. Here's one:

I'm not sure what happened other than they went to a basketball tournament. Were they turned away? If so, I'd need to know more context about why, what conversations took place, the reasoning behind it all, etc. I think sometimes, as a nation, we choose to judge a situation without knowing all the context around that situation and why people made decisions relative to the situation. I'm not the "okay" police in this situation because I don't know the whole story. If you're asking about "Warriors," see my previous post about how Arapahoe High School in the Littleton, Colorado school district handled criticism of being called the Arapahoe Warriors. They entered into a conversation with the tribe and they settled on proper representation in imagery, etc., so they're still called the "Warriors." The Arapahoe tribe even blessed the school's campus in a ceremony.

I thought you were in Missouri, not DC.

It's all about context and having a conversation with stakeholders. Was Red Cloud a tribute or a slur? Or something in between? I'm guessing it was named after the Lakota leader as a tribute, and that both the Sioux and the Pawnee who lived in that area view it as such. But someone could certainly ask. I'm more worried about Fucking, Austria, which last year was forced by inveterate fornicators to change its name to Fugging. The fuggers.

The guy featured in this story, Richie Plass, was an acquaintance of mine. The story details his life as both a drummer for the Wolf River and Flying Feather bands, and as an activist who spent his own money and time traveling the country talking to high school students about their school's use of Native American imagery and words. I met him at several journalism conferences and talked to him extensively about his activism and where it came from. He had a display of "Injun" imagery from America's history, and it was compelling and convincing. My company's booth was often next to or in close vicinity to his, and our logo features an eagle feather, so he really wanted a t-shirt. I gave him one. I run a non-profit affiliated with the University of Iowa, thus my ability to teach sports writing there. He will be missed, as will his activism and clarity about why native American symbolism needs to be a conversation we have in schools and other places where it's used. Here's Richie playing drums with Flying Feathers, "Hey, Indian Man."

It's about getting permission. In FSU's case, the university worked with the Seminole tribe to make sure they had permission and that they had the imagery, history and other representations correct without causing offense. The best example for Warriors was Arapahoe High School in Denver. AHS worked with the Arapahoe tribe to develop images, logos, mascots and other "traditions" that the tribe eventually approved for use by the school and its athletic teams.

One more note from the story: Thorbjarnarson, a native of Iceland, is 14 months older than Webster, however, and may be looking toward a professional career. That makes "The Hammer" 46 months older than recently departed Frenchman Yvan Ouedraogo, who, unbeknownst to almost everyone, played his entire first year at Nebraska as a 17-year old. OK. That last sentence was mine.

In addition, Kobe's working on a master's in educational administration, and though I guess it's possible he could have done that in a year, it's more than likely this extra year gives him a chance to complete it and to meet some of his mentors in the College of Education in person.
-
Best thing, Kobe will be 22 years old next season (for reference sake, he's three years older than Yvan), so Kobe can be a mature influence (along with Trey) on young Bryce McGowens, upon whom so many expectations will be placed.

Lots of scintillating matchups with San Francisco and Seattle in his future. -
That would be the ultimate test, right? If that guy puts on a scarlet jersey with an "N" on it, does he get away with all the pushing and hip checking that he did wearing PSU colors?
-
Or as they're reporting on Rivals: "Arope, Woods and Ivan Dragoo are out; will Blanton be next?"

If I hadn't picked a 90-30 loss in a fit of pique, you'd have been in big trouble, buddy.
