The Nebraska women’s basketball team hopes to return to its winning ways while shooting for a sweep of the season series with Penn State, when the Huskers take on the Lady Lions. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.

Nebraska will try to rebound from a 66-56 road loss at Rutgers, which snapped the Huskers’ six-game conference winning streak. The Big Red were tied at 49 with the Scarlet Knights with 6:50 remaining, but RU outscored NU 17-7 down the stretch to split the season series.

Penn State comes to Lincoln with a two-game road winning streak after earning wins at Iowa and Illinois. The Lady Lions are coming off a hard-fought 88-78 double-overtime loss to Purdue. Nebraska won the first game in the series with Penn State, 83-78. Natalie Romeo set a career high with 32 points while setting a school record with eight three-pointers in that game.

I have a question for those more 'in-the-know' than me, but I've wondered all year why Kalenta doesn't get more playing time.  It seems when she gets some minutes, she hustles and puts up decent stats.

    Doesn't practice well?

    Doesn't play good defense?

Not productive against the better competition from teams better than PSU?

Doesn't fit the system Yori wants to run?

    Nagging injuries?

Just not as good as the other players at the position?

I suppose it's a combination of some or all of those.

Just curious - she seems to be a pretty decent player that could give the starters more of a blow, which, IMO, seems to be a perennial problem for Yori's teams - 3-4 players often go several games in a row playing 36-40 minutes and simply get worn down.

Probably mostly who's in front of her in the line up. Jess, Havers, and Burns, when she's healthy. Anya was ill most of last year, now she can contribute. Connie said in presser, that she hasn't been using the bench enough. There are kids that can contribute in situations.

Anya's has always scored well, and rebounded well, for the few minutes she plays. She's a hustler...works very hard.  Every team needs bench players that maybe makes up for lack of experience, with pure hustle. She out worked her Penn St rivals that's for sure.

Maddie's a little like that this year. Just needs to play more. Looked much more comfortable the last couple of games.

We need another post, since Burns is out. Actually thought Washington did pretty well for the few minutes she played. Looks rusty, and a little confused, but seems to have decent skills...been hurt....maybe needs to focus more?.., and she'll contribute more too if she can get into the flow of things. Only a RS freshman.

It's just very hard to get the bench some experience once the B1G season starts. That's one of the things we can maybe work on.

I'm of the opinion these kids have to play when we have so many injured. You cannot expect starters to put in 38+ minutes at this point in the season each game. Sure, there may be some drop-off so you need to be careful with the substitution pattern, but these kids are only going to get better with minutes on the floor and in the long run that helps the team tremendously. I saw good things from each of the bench players last night. Also saw some not-so-good things but I feel that is due to lack of experience.

It was nice to see Theriot smiling on the court again. Looked like she was enjoying herself.
