UConn looses player too.....

Freshman De'Janae Boykin will transfer from the women's basketball program, Geno Auriemma announced Tuesday.

"Recently, De'Janae expressed her desire to be closer to home," Auriemma said. "She is a great kid and I am glad I was able to get to know her and her family. The entire coaching staff and team wish her nothing but the best in the future."

Boykin, from Springdale, Md., will complete final exams this week before finalizing her transfer. Last season, freshman Sadie Edwards left the team shortly after the season began and later transferred to the University of Southern California.

Boykin's career never got started at UConn. She was sidelined for a great portion of training camp with wrist and Achilles tendon soreness and did not appear in any of UConn's first eight regular season games.

But she also fell behind academically, something that caused Auriemma and the coaching staff to keep her home during UConn's road trip to Tennessee-Chattanooga and DePaul.

Auriemma said the need to catch up academically had caused the program to take action to help her focus. But he was also optimistic Boykin would work through it.

"It's been hard, she hasn't been healthy with wrist and Achilles issues, And the other problem is the academic issues we are trying to work through.

It's like she hasn't been there. It's been a struggle, it really has. It's been a struggle for her, not so much for us, but a huge struggle for her."

...ouch

We aren't the only school to loose players....but she is a very, very good prospect.  Things just never went right at UConn....injuries, school.

Apparently Auriemma didn't lose much sleep about it. The bench is full of H.S. All Americans anyway. :o
