hoop_head Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 Cannot say how awesome it is to see post depth. Kids get to play the position they belong at. Yori hoops with the players needed is so much fun. 79-34 off Havers free throw jumper. 6:56 left. Quote
hoop_head Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 24 points, 13 boards for Jess. Quote
hoop_head Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 Kalenta scores twice on two trips down the floor. 92-39 Quote
redsteve Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 Wow...what a great game by virtually every NU player.  And everyone got to play a lot. Lot's of rotation throughout the game, the bench was well used. ...lots of depth was very evident.  The opposition wasn't to good, but a good game to get floor time for all of the bench.  These three freshman will be a force by the time their Sr's....along with Washington...she's improved...has a good shot.  Very balanced scoring inside VS outside. Guard's were open a lot. The value of inside presence, and opening up the perimeter was very evident.  Nat had about 30 (mostly 3s), Jess 24 and 12 rbs, (school record for freshman in opener). ( I understand Nat's dad was here to watch) Washington and Kalenta can score. Just nice floor play by everyone. The size difference and post play dominated the game.  Maybe the most fun one, was in the first half where coming down the court, Jess passed off to Rachel T and then T passed it backwards behind the back to Jess as Jess broke for the basket... ...you had to see it. ...and watching Jess fast break and run the floor was amazing. (Rachel T and Jess have that chemistry going already)  Havers is rebounding much tougher and shoots that 10-15 footer well. I could go on and no, but....  They made scoring 90+ look easy. Nice game girls ! Quote
Bugeaters1 Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 Going to mention that #43 doing a lot of things that don't show up on the stat sheet. Great fundamentals and hard work. She dove and scrapped for some loose balls. Quote
Row6Seat10 Posted November 15, 2015 Author Report Posted November 15, 2015 Natalie Romeo was good today.....no, I take that back, Natalie Romeo was REAL good today!  Absolutely love what that kid brought to the court today! I think that may have been one of the best offensive starts in a season opener we've had in quite some time. For as young as this team is, they're really starting to gel together especially on fastbreaks. Got a little work to do on the defensive end of the court but as young as this team is it should start to come together.  Can't forget what Jess brought today also. Record numbers for a freshman! Give that kid a few more games of experience and her numbers will increase in all facets of her game. Good to see her beat everyone down the court on some of those fastbreaks!  I thought the most impressive stat was only committing 6 turnovers! With the last 2 of them coming toward the end of the game. Also, we got 54 points off the bench. Not sure I've ever seen that many. Granted Nat had 30 of those but still that's a pretty impressive number. Good to see the depth we have coming off the bench and producing. Thought we might have had a chance of cracking the century mark with a minute a half left. Allie H came up with some really good rebounds.  Competition should get a little stiffer Monday night, how much I'm not sure but North Florida beat UMKC this afternoon in KC by 7.   Quote
Row6Seat10 Posted November 15, 2015 Author Report Posted November 15, 2015 I'll say it right now, Kelsey Griffin's career double/double record is in jeopardy. Quote
whoopdeedoo Posted November 15, 2015 Report Posted November 15, 2015 i noticed in the North Florida Ospreys win, their junior point guard (Claire Ionaddidas sp?) from Melbourne, Australia scored almost half of their points (29). they appear to bring similar height that APB had.  VERY nice win by the huskers. i figured around a 30+ point win, but, wow. it was nice to see nat resumed her stroke with her father in attendance. when i turned on matt and jeff, it sounded like she may be a question mark (due to illness during the week). Quote
rand909 Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015  I'll have to stop reading this blog if Rachel plays poorly. Well, you can relax. She was exceptional. Got a rousing thank you from the crowd when she got to sit for the final few minutes. The crowd is falling in love with her attitude, focus and her basketball IQ.
