Kalenta article in OWH

Nice article in OWH this morning about Kalenta.

 

Her mother played on USSR team, and her father is a coach. Has a brother 6-8  that also played.

 

She had a chance to play professionally in Europe, but instead wanted to get her pharmacy degree, and going to the US to college was the way she could accomplish it.

Kalenta is the player I am most interested in seeing how well she plays.  If she can average at least 15 points and 7 rebounds per game and have a decent field goal percentage, I believe we will be on our way to an outstanding season.  To win the Big 10 conference championship, we will need someone to step up and fill the void left by Hoppers graduation and I am hoping she is the one to do it.

I feel like 15 is way too high to expect. That would've made her the second highest scorer by 1 point over RT last season. She showed up late and it will be an adjustment period for her. I think 8 points should be hopeful as the rest of the team will pick up the rest of Jhoops production.

no disrespect but from going to jc to big 10 15 ppg is setting the bar way to high.  If she avgs 10 ppg and 5  reb it would be a huge addition.

Kalenta may be the one I'm really interested to see play, in the sense that she may be able to contribute right away......particularly inside.  She just has more background and experience, ....beyond high school... than any of the new players.

 

I'm certain there will be other "newbies" that will see playing time fairly soon too, but Kalenta may have a step or so ahead in terms of getting with the program.

 

We should easily have more 4 & 5  bench than last year.  Just a stronger bench than we've had for a while...overall.
