kldm64 Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Since Norm has a "man crush" on this kid, thought I'd give an update on him. He is now at Polk State College. http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/story/2013-08-23/sheldon-jeter-vanderbilt-transfer-new-school-roster-stats-move?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Quote
HB Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Thanks for posting, kldm. Very interesting article beyond the update on Jeter, on the whole transfer situation. It will be interesting to see if Pitt will keep an offer open for Sheldon for next year. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Wow. Ernie Chambers was all over Barry Collier when Collier wouldn't release Kevin Augustine. Collier eventually relented and granted Augustine his unconditional release. Sounds like Kevin Stallings is being a bit of an a-hole. Let the kid transfer to Pitt. It's not in your conference and it's basically his home-town school. From the article: "What seems a shame, though, is this: A young man who proved he is capable of handling the academic work at a challenging four-institution, who proved he can play high-major basketball by averaging 18 minutes and 5.5 points as a freshman, is being denied the opportunity to do either this year merely because one coach says so." Norm Peterson Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Nice for Sheldon that he was able to work out a deal with Polk College's coach (who was also his cousin Lance's coach in juco) that he can go to school, get his assoc. degree and practice with the team but not play in games so that he'll enter Pitt as a soph, which is what he'd be if he sat out a year transferring directly to Pitt. The only difference is that if he had been allowed to transfer directly to Pitt, he'd be able to practice with the team for a year, like Petteway and Pitchford have with us. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Just an update on this one: He's grown 2 inches and added 20 pounds, measuring in at 6'8" and 225#. He's now a Pitt Panther and apparently dominated their local Pro-Am league this summer, averaging over 20 pts and almost 10 rebounds. He didn't play at Polk CC last year, sitting out as a redshirt, so he'll be a sophomore eligibility-wise at Pitt this year. Still blows my mind we didn't try to recruit this kid. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2014/07/07/Finally-hiatus-is-over-for-Sheldon-Jeter/stories/201407070079 http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/120513aag.html Edited to add: Look at the game stats for one of their games in the Bahamas a couple of weeks ago: http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/080314aaa.html Quote
