  1. Pitino just got a 2-yr extension thru 2024 with the Gophers - pig sooey rumors pay off for the jackwagon.
  2. They can see recruits face to face anywhere April 11 (Thursday) starting at noon thru April 14 (Sunday). Then it's a dead period again. Signing period starts April 17. So if they want to/can bring in recruits for the Spring Game, it fits in that tight window. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they can contact recruits via social media, text, etc. even during a dead period, so they could potentially set up some visitors now for the Spring Game weekend. Certainly a very tight turnaround from when Hoiberg was hired for trying to get recruits on campus before signing day. So hopefully they can find a handful of unsigned prospects who are willing to take a look in a short amount of time. Otherwise, I'm sure they're working on current juniors, guys in the transfer portal, etc. Plenty to keep them busy.
  3. What? No Dana "Pig-Sooey" Altman on the list? I refuse to believe it.
  4. 30 for 30? Pssssh. This will deserve a Ken Burns level documentary.
  5. I'd imagine our AD took some creative license when recounting the story today of how he learned about Hoiberg's interest and how our golf coach was involved.
  6. I think he meant he'll be visiting the signed guys in person the next couple of days. It's a quiet/dead period thru April 11 for unsigned recruits. Coaches can only make off-campus visits April 11-14 before another dead period. Late signing period starts April 17.
  7. Not really. Just said he met with the whole team today, had spoken with a few via phone previously, and will meet with them individually Friday. Mentioned we have a few in the transfer portal and have a potential early-entry draft candidate. But no decisions made yet. He did say he was going to sit down and watch every game from this season. He'll be prepared to help all those guys make the best decisions by Friday, I would imagine.
  8. If there were any questions whether he's just here for a quick (big) paycheck before moving on, or that he's worn down from his time in Chicago and that he's not truly ready to jump back into coaching, those should be gone. Pretty clear he's locked in on this job from his comments and the way he addressed things today. Now that doesn't mean he may not take another job down the road. Things change. But he's all-in here right now. Also got the impression that getting fired from the Bulls has really lit a fire under him. He said everything that he should about the Bulls opportunity, very complimentary, but I felt like there was an undercurrent of being pissed about being fired and being ready to prove someone wrong about whether his system can work. I was expecting to be impressed, but overall, it went far better than I even expected.
  9. The cardinal and gold across the top is a nice touch. ? As long as we don't have to swap out Lincoln for Ames for the day, I'm OK with the changes. That'd be going too far.
  10. Agreed - I was among the several thousand at Devaney to welcome the boys back home from KC with the trophy in hand. We had a red-hot team, we had a stellar recruiting class coming in, 4th straight NCAA bid, a sure win this time, there was no stopping us. That feeling of excitement, invincibility, and anticipation was incredible. Then we played Penn. This definitely is the most exciting thing to happen to NU hoops in an offseason. Crazy-good hire. Considering all of the semi-realistic names that have been thrown around for our next coach, Hoiberg's is the best one. To pull in Frost and Hoiberg back to back is as impressive as it gets for Mr. Moos. Time to schedule Penn for Hoiberg's first game and let him exorcise some of our past demons. Get your tickets now ... if any are left.
  11. From August: https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/randy-peterson/2018/08/04/nba-former-iowa-state-basketball-coach-tim-floyd-likes-his-life-seclusion/904847002/
  12. Is it possible that we broke both Texas Tech and Michigan, and it just has taken this long to show up?
  13. Can't stand Haaaaaaarms, but Painter can flat-out coach. The adjustments they made on offense in OT were genius. The way they started the year, to end up with a co-conference championship and an Elite Eight appearance is pretty impressive.
  14. 93.7 yesterday was discussing a Minneapolis journalist whose "sources" said Hoiberg already had contacted a 2019 Top 100 recruit on behalf of NU. Since I'm in the mode now of every source is accurate (as long as they say something I like to hear), any guesses on who this might be? Someone uncommitted, maybe in the Midwest, since the source was in the Minneapolis area? Or maybe someone who's having second thoughts because of a coaching change? I don't follow top-level recruiting enough to even make a guess.
  15. Yes - if at all possible, they'll want him at the Final Four, where every coach on the planet and multiple national journalists gather, in NU gear. This is a splash hire, so that's the best place to make a splash, while the news is still fresh. Announcing this any time Monday thru Wednesday would be ideal.
  16. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/randy-peterson/2019/03/27/former-iowa-state-chicago-bulls-coach-fred-hoiberg-nebraska-huskers-basketball-tim-miles-fired/3286109002/ Good perspective on Hoiberg's time at ISU.
  17. Huh. Small world. Based on his record at ISU, I guess he didn't figure out how to come up with $100K for recruits and good job offers for their parents (allegedly) till he received some extra guidance at his current position.
  18. I believe at ISU he was 4-1 vs Iowa. And now he gets a chance to beat them 1-3 times per year. I can understand their concern. Also impressive that Hoiberg inherited quite a dumpster fire at ISU and still beat his rival 4 times out of 5, along with all of the other successes. Either way, Miles leaves NU in much better shape than whatever failure of a coach Hoiberg followed at ISU. Fans of the team wherever that coach is now probably are pretty concerned as well.
  19. Heck of a fun run the past few weeks - we just didn't have the horses to get enough stops to make a serious threat in the second half against an uber-athletic team tonight. Still gave a tremendous effort.
  20. Don't want to start any unsubstantiated rumors, but I swear I saw Hoiberg's son throw the bones after he made a FT against Minnesota tonight.
  21. The NCAA tournament is a better place when the Big East teams are all finished by Saturday of the opening weekend.
  22. Don't know if this is set in stone, but the latest NIT bracket says the NU/TCU - Creighton game will be Tuesday on ESPN (time TBA - probably 6 or 8 pm Central). The Indiana bracket also set for Tuesday, while the other two brackets are set for Wednesday. If this is set in stone and it ends up being NU-blue team in Omaha, someone at ESPN/the NIT/Creighton dropped the ball with that night also being NU-blue team baseball in Omaha. You'd think someone at CU would've clued them in about that potential conflict, especially since the games would take place within a couple of blocks of each other. https://i.turner.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/images/2019/03/23/2019_nit_bracket_-_3.23.19.pdf
  23. Wow. agree someone has an axe to grind. But if even half that stuff in that article is true, Hoiberg will have no interest in returning to ISU under the current AD. He'd especially have a difficult time attracting any decent assistants the second time around. Word about stuff like that travels in coaching circles quickly. Also pretty clear, unless something dramatic has changed, ISU's AD couldn't afford Hoiberg now anyway. It's nice being a "have" instead of a "have not." And even Doc gets a shout-out in the article. It's all coming together!
  24. Had to been a bit surreal for Sam Griesel last night. One year ago, playing at Lincoln East. Last night, trying to guard Zion Williamson.
  25. Well, they probably only play 9 or 10 guys. They need the extra time off.
