not sure she would have a press conference, but, like i mentioned in another post---i would think her and matt will get together one more time on sports nightly. guessing either tomorrow or thursday evening. i noticed it wasn't listed for tonight.
-
wonder if she calls it a career? might be something to watch.
-
evidently more than an ankle sprain to be out for such a lengthy period. unless some other issues cropped up.
-
did she have a hip problem requiring surgery? hope she can make a full recovery. expect coach will have one more session with matt on sports nightly. maybe hear a little more discussion on the future.
-
i'd feel better if there was a "romeo" type there... not at pg, just around the perimeter
-
i really won't be surprised either way. i would bet we know before the end of the week.
-
near the end of the season, i believe it was ruby porter that made a play underneath the basket---opponent rebounded the ball and porter went in and "tied" it up. however, she was called for a foul. it looked pretty clean, first thing that popped into my mind is no way this is called a foul if it was Rutgers!!! Go Cougars!

Big Ten team news...(Hoopla's picks complete p. 17)

just in case you like to read about other Big Ten squads. from the MNDaily on the gophers future: Throughout the season, Whalen had used the popular game Jenga as a motivational tactic for her team. The blocks exemplify building a foundation and getting better every day — something that certainly resonated with the group, as they continued to improve week in and week out no matter what challenges they faced.“We gotta just keep building every day to get better,” Scalia said. “We have to keep building the foundation, and we have started to do that.”On the surface, it might be hard to pull any positives from an 8-13 season, but Whalen learned a lot about her team over the last four months. The Gophers’ three leading scorers all have at least two years of college eligibility remaining, while every player on the team appeared in at least five games. Looking ahead to next season, they will likely return 80% of their scoring production with a chance to return it all, as redshirt senior Gadiva Hubbard and graduate student Laura Bagwell Katalinich have yet to announce whether they will utilize their extra season of eligibility. The future’s looking bright in Dinkytown, as Minnesota’s talented young roster continues to add blocks to its Jenga tower. -
i noticed she has been named the #1 recruit in SD for 2024

watched Winner, SD's Bella Swedlund in the state tourney. there is no doubt she is a natural scorer. the question i have, is what could she give you defensively at this level? i've seen a partial list of her offers (a few were mentioned in an earlier post-Illinois the only big ten offer). what puzzled me a bit, Omaha is the only Summit League school that has offered (so far). if you watch her junior highlights, you will notice everything is on the offensive side of the ball, whether shooting or passing. which makes sense as, no doubt, it is her strength. she is an excellent ball handler. i can understand why huskers may have no interest. i don't know her goals (bb or education) but i'm guessing she goes to a "lower level" DI school. it may be her best opportunity to get playing time. would love to see her be a Jackrabbit, but, as of today i have heard of no offer. maybe her size (5'8" is keeping a few away--plus, maybe defense?). she sure can shoot the 3, though. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8840280/604e9ce24ba9330178bdd7cc

don't leave out the fact Cain mentioned how she loves being with this team on and off the court. should be interesting little period once the season ends.
-
just thought i would add this...watched the WNIT Press Conference with coach, Cain, and Izzy. btw, just love listening to Izzy talk---love that accent! anyway, imo, i wouldn't count Cain not returning. she said the coaches told her they would discuss the decision come the end of the season, so, she was pretty happy with that. if i had to guess....right now i would say 50-50, and wouldn't shock me if she did return. didn't get to listen to matt and coach tuesday night, but, guess she discussed Ruby's injury. coach mentioned it in the WNIT Press Conference. they are very hopeful that they have avoided any type of surgery, but, all depends on how her body deals with the injury. so, not completely out of the question. i'm guessing it wasn't an ACL, though? taking it "day by day". sounds like her season is done though.

wonder if the states finance issues might relate...

with Badger's Tsipis out, wonder if Purdue follows suit with Versyp? Fahey at Illinois? i would think Alvarez will test the waters with Drake's coach (can never remember how to spell her last name) maybe USD's coach? i don't think she would leave, yet. however...........$$$ (is her daughter still in hs?) interesting to see what names might pop up for the wiscy job.

nice job! on coach: "This was perhaps Amy Williams’ best coaching job to date as the leader of this Nebraska program. She had teams that were 21-11 and 17-13, so from a record standpoint, there have been more successful seasons, but Williams deserves a tremendous amount of credit and recognition for the work she had to do this year." "Consistency was nowhere to be found, not in her rotation, not in her practice availability. And yet Nebraska looked like one of the toughest teams in the league for a month stretch mid-year." on Cain: "But… if she wanted to use the extra year of eligibility given by the NCAA, the ceiling next season could be pretty high for Nebraska. Factor in another year of development for Bourne and Stewart, health for Bella Cravens, and incoming freshman center Alexis Markowski, and Nebraska could have a deep and talented frontcourt." on Haiby: "People who have watched Sam Haiby game in and game out know how impactful she can be. When defenses aren’t loading up to wall her off, she’s as good a one-on-one scorer as there is in the conference. The only flaw in her game entering the season was her perimeter shot. She could hit 3s, but the consistency was still something of a work in progress. This season she has shot 39% from 3. She’s hitting off-the-dribble 3s. She’s reseting when defenders go under the screen and rising up with confidence. Haiby’s first step is so quick and her ability to flip shots up and in in the lane means most defenders are going to go under the screen. If she continues to hit those 3s, she’s going to become a serious problem to guard." https://hailvarsity.com/womens-basketball/on-nebraska-hc-amy-williams-brilliance-kates-decision-and-sams-stage/

was trying to think who i was missing'....had to get goin'. thanks
-
ah missed that i guess...or completely forgot
-
guess i didn't see the article HB was mentioning. that would leave Stewart, Bourne, Cravens, Markowski, and Coley as the bigs. Haiby is the one "shoe-in" for the backcourt and probably Scoggins guess the roster should go as follows: Bourne Porter Cravens Haiby Stewart Scoggins Coley Dillard Markowski Cayton Brady Weidner Moriarity

get the feeling huskers don't have a shot with Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda from SF Washington. some schools on her list include Oregon, Texas, UCLA, and Stanford.
-
sure looks like huskers are going to have some pretty good depth. at practically every position. one thing i would like to see is a more consistent threat from 3. nice trio coming in next season. going to be interesting who might lose some minutes. i have a guess...but we'll see. no info at all, but, wonder if Brady returns? i'd like to see Cain back, however, if she moves on more power to her. i thought she had one of her better years as a husker (albeit, condensed). i would think she announces her decision very soon.

Huskers Lexi Sun got a piece in the article...https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30945653/social-media-stardom-how-changes-nil-benefit-athlete-influencers-ncaa more power to'em

wonder if this will trickle down to the woman's game? equality, you know. as it states, will make you ineligible for hs and college play. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/overtime-set-to-launch-professional-high-school-basketball-league-that-pays-players-100k/ sad thing is, how do you NOT do it if you have the chance? i would never attend a game, though. i'll stick to "regular" high school games.

hate iowa or really hate iowa.....this is pretty remarkable: Clark ranks fourth for most points during a freshman campaign (631 points), playing seven fewer games than anyone on the list. Texas A&M’s Chennedy Carter holds the record for most freshman points (816), playing 13 more games than the Hawkeyes have this season and averaging 22.6 points per game. she broke Jamie Printy's freshman scoring record at iowa...actually smashed it. i tried to look up how many games Printy played in to get the record but couldn't find the stats. 11 games of 30+ points. if her defense improves...
