I have enjoyed this board that last several years, but honestly have become very troubled by a lot of the discussions on here. The women's team is in a tough spot right now, and its not going to get any easier anytime soon. But for so many uniformed adults to come out of the wood work and take pot shots at coaches, and kids, who most have never met is troubling. Some kids might transfer, and if the do hopefully it is based on a well thought out decision between the kid, their parents, and the coaches. Not because some old guy who has never met them is convinced they can't play. The reality is a "perfect (crap) storm" caused by a whole bunch of people - coaches, administrators, support staff, media, parents, etc.-- got the situation to where it is today. Maybe some of the current and former players have some culpability in that, maybe they don't, but in my opinion to take pot shots at kids who people have never met is unfortunate. For adults to hope kids are asked to uproot their lives and educations and not return is equally unfortunate. Might it improve the team quicker, sure. One need look no farther than Colorado State for the burn and start over approach. They were awful Ryan Williams first year and he asked most of the team including starters to not come back. They replaced them with about 8 foreigners the next year and improved dramatically. The guy can flat coach, and can obviously win, but i will never root for them because of how that situation was handled. The ncaa changed the rules two years ago i think and scholarships are no longer one year renewables so that approach is harder to pull off than it was before. However, a coach can still tell a kid listen you aren't going to get in and some might leave when told that. I understand healthy debate, and loving a person's favorite team, and wanting to win. I also understand monday morning quarterbacking games, plays, etc. But i will never understanding taking pot shots at 18-22 year old ladies who most making the comments know nothing about. Turning this board into the Lord of the Flies won't help us win even one more game. GBR

Yeah bugs. Then if u click on the team members name it will take u to more detailed info about them and a q&a is under each kids link. Should work for u
-
I don't know how to post the link but at the huskers.com website there is actually a similar q&a article for each of the kids if u click on their roster profile. It then says q&a under their picture and links it.

1 week from today practice starts. Gbr

Bunch of good KS kids coming up. I can think of a 2019, 2020 and a 2021 that all have bcs offers already.
-
If you go to the NU website and click on roster you can click on all of our new players (and old too for that matter) and pull up their Q&A info etc. Kind of fun to read what there interests are etc.

Bball season is finally here. I hope the women have a fun year and adapt well to the transition. I also hope the fans are supportive during this transition. Going to be some ups and downs but important to keep moving forward and support the kids and coaches.

Well Grace Mitchell transferred from Derby to Wellington hs her sr year so they never actually were hs teammates. They do however belong to the same club team called Next Level.

Canadian4u -- u obviously aren't much of a Husker women's bball fan or u would know "they did exactly what u suggested and give that scholarship to a Nebraska kid". She quit after 1 year. Name was Courtney Aiitken. Doing all the behinds the scenes stuff that comes with being a walk/on roll player isn't something most kids want to do.

yeah probably. I just have never posted over there. moderator can move it or delete it if appropriate. Just slow day on the board so I added it.

Not related to women's bball but two KS kids heading to nu next year. Volleyball adding Alex ratzleff from Hillsboro, KS and wrestling adding dalton peters from Salina, KS -- I have heard volleyball is recruiting a young kid from Hanover KS also but don't know her name

Interesting read from wife of WBB Coach
kansashusker replied to huskerchode's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
After the press conference, he was cornered by a handful of media. I waked up and squeezed in next to the wall on his right side, just in time to hear him make one of the most poignant statements of the entire season. “It’s getting much much harder to connect with every kid on the team in the way that you need to, that they need you to,” Auriemma said. “Yet look at our record and where we are and what we’ve done. What we present to the general public is one thing; what we deal with internally is another.” It’s a refrain I’m hearing more and more from the generation just before me, how difficult it is to relate to today’s young people, who would rather text someone sitting across from them than talk one-on-one. Hearing Auriemma say that he was having trouble relating, however, was an eye-opener. And possibly a sign. http://womenshoopsworld.com/2016/04/07/is-geno-auriemma-preparing-to-retire/ -
OT: Duke WBB investigation into mistreatment

This is a good read:https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/fearless-coaching-protecting-your-livelihood-becky-carlson -
My hope for this board is that people will not speculate, hate, or believe everything they read. Lots of people's lives are effected right now and nay sayers and closet critics coming out of the woodwork doesn't help the program. It would serve the university, team and players well to let things run there course professionally. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but GBR ought to be above smearing kids and coaches that have been in the battle and bled, laughed, loved and cried for this team

Nothing like giving up a 50,000 tax free scholarship for a chance at a 30,000 taxable wnba check I don't understand leaving early n women's bball. Economics don't make sense

There is usually actually an inverse relationship between how good of a player somebody was and coaching. Usually the less talented kids end up being the better coaches because they have to learn to work harder and learn every nuance to overcome physical defeciincies. -- i.e. Mark turgeon, Bill self, Roy Williams, Larry brown , tad Boyle, josh pastner, Travis ford, calapari, Jarod hasse, etc. not always the case but more often than not. Physical capabilities plays a bigger role at the highest level than most people factor in.

Former SD coach Ryan Williams will b n hot demand also along with drake coach Jenny baranzski. All up and comers

Where I think we disagree Karl is that I don't think 10-35 can influence a womens game even close to level of 1-10 and maybe even 1-5. The drop off in ability to dominate is extreme. If Stewart wasn't on UCONN they would have lost several games over the last few years.
-
Baylor will be a major challenge again going forward. When they get several good kids they can compete with UCONN they just can't draw them quite as regularly. They have the best player in the country coming in Lauren Cox. Added to what they currently have there is a very good chance they win a national title again in the next 4 years.

We get way too caught up on this board about stars and rankings. Bottom line is there are about 10 girls a year that leave hs nationwide that are true physical difference makers day 1 and they are very easy to spot. Geno is a great great coach and maximizes kids development, but he is getting 2-4 of those 10 kids every year. The other 6-8 are spreading out to other schools. and then those schools that get them don't likely get more than 1 of them, and likely only get them every couple of years. Because of this Geno is able to create an atmosphere of competition that other schools can't. At other schools kids can work hard, but not buy n 100 percent, and still get on the court and have some success because they are still better than the other kids on their team. At UConn, if a kid doesn't buy in 100 percent no matter how talented, they have somebody else that will take those minutes. That is how the top 40 mens teams are because there is so much less separation with men in ability. After the first 10 the difference between number 25-75 is a slight talent separation at best, and the difference between 25 -250 isn't even that extreme. No guarantees number 50 is any more successful than number 250 if 250 works harder.
