Yes shepard at some point in her career could be the best 4 in the country. she is that good. if she develops and stays healthy she is certainly good enough to compete for a conf. player of the year award. She is special. That said, I get concerned how easy it is for us as fans to fall in love with the rankings. We have some very very good young prospects, but the reality is they are merely prospects until they prove it at the college level. Odds are some the kids the board is counting on won't ever be great, and may never play a lot. Additionally, there may be a kid or two in the 14 and 15 classes that are under the radar to the fans currently, but could end up playing meaningful roles for the huskers. Redsteve is correct, we will be very young next year with 10 players that are freshman or soph assuming nobody transfers. There will be growing pains for the fans, and growing pains for the kids. Reality is no team in America plays more than 8 or 9 kids many minutes after the first few games. Thus 5-6 of the kids on the roster won't play a ton this years. just part of big time college basketball.

Row you have me totally confused with your last post. do you mean our 2014 class was #9?
-
I don't have any idea where she played, or if she played, this summer. She will definitely have a learning curve since the other kids got to practice and condition several hours a week this summer. However, with 6 freshman on the roster I am sure the staff is in basics teaching mode more than a normal season anyway as 50% of the roster will be brand new. Thus, I wouldn't think it will take her too long to catch up. Does anybody have any reliable info on how the freshman are doing in practice? and areas in which the older kids may have improved?

next weekend I believe

I think Maddie simon actually tweeted her number out in a similar tweet before the other two. I believe she will be 24. Lets not forget about her. Great kid. -
Also curious do people think we will add to our 2015 class or are we done?
-
Thanks for the update HB. I assume you attended the dinner?

Smith is certainly big enough and athletic enough to play the 2 and 3; where as I would guess Kaylee paige will play the 3 would be my guess. I think when Natalie plays she will be the 1 and Rachel will slide to the 2. Rachel will be our best player and should really have a great year now that she will have to be more assertive. When Darrien plays I am guessing she will be strictly a 5. Red Steve why don't we designate you are our "fly on the wall" and you can sneak into a couple practices in a janitor costume or something and then report back how they look. smile

I think chandler, kaylee and nat will play at least 8-16 minutes per game for sure. Maybe Darrien and Jasmine some also. Darrien's playing time will depend how she does compared to our JC transfer. Jasmine's position is back logged a bit more with T and Brandi srs in front of her. But you are correct in that there will be a need to get them PT so that their is some experience heading into the following season. The freshman are going to have to get way tougher physically and mentally in the next 4 months. there is a big difference in playing between being physically dominant in hs; and being physically avg. or weak as a freshman.
-
I will be curious to see if: a) we redshirt any of the freshman; and whether we sign anybody else in the 2015 class other than the 4 who have already committed. By the way I love it that this board has been active lately even though it is summer and not bball season. I don't know how to copy and post pictures but if anybody follows coach shimmey on twitter their was a cool picture yesterday of the team running sprints. It was from a distance, but I think I could recognize most of the kids.
-
I am going to go out on a limb and predict that the freshman that most people are failing to mention much that may be the most ready physically to contribute is Chandler Smith.
-
That is an awesome post Row. As I read it I had no idea where the story was going and then got to the punch line and laughed. Glad nobody took your seat.

I hope people understand that even though lots of our incoming kids the next few years are highly touted/ranked, etc there is a huge leap from h.s to college, and especially to top 20 bcs level college. A lot of these young kids won't necessarily play that much early in their careers. It doesn't mean they aren't good, it just means we have older kids ahead that are good. I get worried when I hear how new kids who have never played a college game are going to displace kids who started on a top 20 team last year. That most likely won't happen. Some kids that started last year may play slightly less minutes just because of a depth increase, but I highly doubt any of them get bumped from the starting rotation.

Rallied a few responses so that is good. smile

I am bored with minimal bball info so thought I would start a new thread. I don't have much but: a. Heard Rachel Blackburn played very well in Nashville during early july period; b. I think all the freshman are on campus now so whole team should be there except our jc transfer who is finishing up jc summer school I believe. Anybody have any reports on summer pickup gms or practice? Who is playing well etc?

Drake's coach is a rock star. This is a good first job for DOBO Kelley.
-
That is a nice post Row. there will be some bumps in the road with so many new faces, but should be a lot of fun times ahead especially with such great upperclassman as leaders. I have been hearing Rachel T. has been playing amazing and has a chance to be an all American at some point I read Rachel Blackburn's team took 2nd in the tourney this week in Frisco tx at fieldhouse usa. lost in finals I believe.
-
It is in Salina tomorrow. I think the kids check in and start practice for the game today.
-
Anybody heard how Kaylee is doing in the summer workouts and pick up games?
-
I don't know if tyler Johnson has made a decision yet but hearing KU a heavy lien

The big kid from Iowa Burkhall 2015 might have been on campus yesterday for camp.
