  1. Whoa, Nellie! We lost a four star recruit to an SEC team. Not the end of the world. Tim Miles & Co. have a thorough list of players they've been developing as potential recruits and, according to public comments, have a thoroughly developed set of priorities on who to pursue and a strategy for doing so. Moreover, there are always Tim Miles surprises out there, such as Colton Iverson at CSU (drafted by the Celtics) and Walter Pitchford. Unfortunately, the coaches rarely explain their priorities or strategies to the public, so we are left with our speculations and uneducated guesses that keep message boards like this in high demand. Perhaps we should simply enjoy the ride . . . but speculating and guessing and fretting and stewing are a heck-of-a-lot more fun and entertaining. But some of the posts above seem a bit too close to the ledge for our current reality.
  2. Not seeing a lot of Elvis tunes that would seem to work. Consider this list: Blue Suede Shoes (Huskers wear red) Heartbreak Hotel -- maybe for the other team? Don't Be Cruel -- would that be begging? Too Much All Shook Up Teddy Bear Jailhouse Rock -- not quite on point A Big Hunk o' Love (maybe if Elbert were around) Are You Lonesome Tonight Surrender -- not a good vibe Return to Sender If I Can Dream Moody Blue I don't know . . . just don't seem to be quite right.
  3. Maybe Akoy will decide to come home in December.
  4. In an effort to be "helpful," I pulled up on the internet what appears to be a current list of "Most Popular Songs." So, based on title, alone, (i.e., I didn't actually listen to any or look up the lyrics) here are some possibilities: Royals by Lorde (but too much like the old baseball team in Omaha) Roar by Katy Perry Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus (the new Tim Miles nickname) Hold On, We're Going Home by Drake Applause by Lady Gaga--or maybe her "I Was Born This Way" or the one that mentions her Nebraska guy Berzerk by Eminem We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus (sorry about Miley twice) That's My Kind of Night by Luke Bryan Get Lucky by Daft Punk Treasure by Bruno Mars Cups by Anna Kendrick (seems like such a supportive song) It Goes Like This by Thomas Rhett Night Train by Jason Aldean Demons by Imagine Dragons Can't Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Redneck Crazy by Tyler Farr (for the games when "Git 'er Done" shows up) Just Give Me a Reason by Pink Give it 2 U by Robin Thicke Or maybe one by Taylor Swift--perhaps the one about never getting back together . . . ever.
  5. Wow. This actually creates controversy? Someone hates the Tunnel Walk music? "This is Our House!" -- someone actually hates this? Seriously?
  6. Pavelka tweeted yesterday that Agau is buried on the depth chart at Louisville. With Pitino's history of "cutting" players, maybe he'll come back home. I'm hoping Harriman can work his magic and find a good prospect out there somewhere. It's a long time until the Spring Signing Period. I kinda doubt that Kent has any idea what is going on at Louisville. He has a hard enough time getting the names right for guys that are actually on Nebraska's roster. Couldn't help chuckling at the combination of the foregoing and this string of posts on the Louisville "Scout" board. The posting string ends with, "What about Akoy?" Louisville scrimmaged yesterday. Here are a smattering of fan comments about Akoy Agau from the Louisville Scout board following that scrimmage: "Akoy Agau - Pitiful. But he is a big body and i'm sure is a decent practice player. He will never see the court except in blow outs. he just doesn't fit the system.... Nice jump shot, but the level of comptetition is way too high for his comfort level. If he maintains a nice attitude and stays on the team, he may contribute his senior year.... I think." "Akoy showed me very little on both ends of the floor today." "Akoy Agau seemed like a guy that will be good down the road. He wasn't really good with the ball, I can tell he has butterfingers. I'm going to all three scrimmages so Im looking forward to see more of him before I say he is behind the other freshmen. OK, I'm being modest, yes Akoy is behind the other freshmen but I'm looking forward to seeing him in the other scrimmages." "I expect Agau will be assuming Price's minutes for his freshman year."

  8. This morning's Omaha World Herald has a cool article on Nick Fuller. Here is a blurb on Fuller's recruitment: “The facilities and everything are great,” Fuller said. “But the biggest thing that attracted me was coach Miles and the staff. “With coach Miles, I had an instant connection, as with all the assistants. The facilities definitely helped. But the key point of knowing where I wanted to be rested with the coaches.” He likes Miles' offensive style, with a lot of penetration and kick-out passes to the perimeter.
  9. With his final official visit going to Georgetown, probably gotta figure they are in the driver's seat for Elbert's commitment. Also, if this thread get's past 31 pages, gotta figure it's a dead-lock cinch that Elbert commits to a school other than Nebraska.
  10. Norm dozes off again and Elbert chooses Ohio St., but Elbert has a Colton Iverson-like experience (at Minnesota) or a Walter Pitchford-like experience (at Florida) in Columbus and decides to transfer to the place he should have picked in the first place; at which time Tim Miles says, "Sure you can transfer here . . . " And then Norm wakes up again.
  11. At least he didn't . . . commit to LSU !!!!
  12. Nebrasketball has a significant risk / reward opportunity with Walter Pitchford, in light of his Florida pine-board experience. If Walter can become a "significant minutes, scoring, leadership, rebounds, et al" kind of player this season, then Miles and Co. will deserve renown for turning a previously-underdeveloped talent into an effective B1G player. Such a result could become a powerful tool in recruiting future players!
  13. Anyone catch this article on Walter Pitchford in the Omaha World Herald over the weekend by Lee Barfknecht? Walter's picture took up most of the top half of the front page of the Sports section that day. Here are some blurbs from the article: A chance recommendation got the 6-foot-10, 230-pounder a look from Nebraska, a scholarship and finally a place to call home. “That’s what it has felt like since Day One,” Pitchford said. “I love this place.” . . . “The biggest thing I learned in my first year here was loyalty,” said Pitchford . . . “Playing for Coach Miles has really put it in perspective. You have to play your role.” Pitchford’s growth in maturity hasn’t muted his confidence. “I think I am the man I need to be to play at this level,” he said, “and dominate at this level.”
  14. Joking or serious ? Serious, according to Peltz, who is quoted in the article linked above as follows: “I dunked off two feet with two hands last week, so we’re making progress,” he said, smiling. “I’m living my dream to play Division I basketball. But last year, just the basic moves left and right were very hard.”
  15. Gotta love the effort early last year despite the pain!
  16. That makes a ton of sense to me. Why would you use your very first in-home, on the first day that you can do an in-home, on a guy that is a back-up option? Just doesn't compute. Therefore, I'd say the guy is probably not a back-up option, but is a primary target. Oh no, Creighton Fan!!! How could you possibly do this to my argument? You've doomed it by agreeing with it!!! Sheesh [and "groan"]! P.S. I am typing this with a smile on my face and a chuckle in my head.
  17. Prediction: David Wacker will be a Husker and on scholarship this time next year. Speculation: Tim Miles & Co. are creatively managing the thirteen-scholarships and oversigning-by-one limitations to maximize this year's recruiting potential with Robinson, Deng, Bollen, etc., and Wacker is very much a central part of the plan. Rationale: 1. These coaches wouldn't waste an official visit and their first in-home visit on someone they believe is a marginal / slow-play guy; and 2. Wacker received strong interest from the likes of Colorado and others, yet he hasn't set up any visit to anywhere but Boise.
  18. Win or lose on the Elbert Robinson sweepstakes, the reality of the visit and the substance of the Rivals interview provide an unmistakable and unequivocal measurement of the progress Nebrasketball is making on the recruiting circuit. Consider this: 1. When was the last time a recruit ranked this highly (i) made a visit here, and (ii) left with rave reviews? 2. When was the last time any recruit (i) made an official visited here, and (ii) then left for further official visits to the likes of Ohio St. and Georgetown? 3. When was the last time a fan on a message board of the likes of either Ohio St. or Georgetown describes a Husker Rivals article on a recruiting visit as "a very disturbing read" and then nervously attempts the "enjoying his official trips" and "saying the right things" dismissive? 4. When was the last time Nebrasketball had a legitimate chance in one year to sign both (i) an ESPN 4-Star / Rivals 150 recruit (Hammond), and (ii) an ESPN 4-Star / Rivals 4-Star recruit (Robinson)? It seems that the answer to all four questions is probably, "Never!"
  19. Or, we might go with Robinson Crusoe, or Jackie Robinson (the biography), or Jackie Robinson (the movie), or "Here's to you Mrs. Robinson," or . . . By the way, what is the point of this thread?
  20. Or, you could check out this picture posted on the prior page of this thread:
  21. As between Nebrasketball and Georgetown, we have the B1G advantage. Wacker's comments from last week, for example, noted his belief that the B1G is "the best" basketball conference in the country and allows an athlete to test his prowess against the very best players and teams throughout his college career. Georgetown previously held out such a prospect for recruits, but the departure from the former Big East of the likes of Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati calls such a prospect into question for present-day recruits.
  22. Gotta love that!
  23. Thanks!!
  24. Fixed! And that picture blown up a bit Anyway, Norm, Elbert Robinson does seem to be taller than Walter Pitchford.
  25. For the past half-hour or so, I've been trying to post a picture taken on my Iphone of Elbert Robinson, Kenya Hunter and Walter Pitcford standing along the sidelines at today's game--but can't get it accomplished because the picture, apparently, has too much data. Any suggestions on how to get this accomplished?
