Walt needs to sit his butt on the bench
hhctony replied to Section_316's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Speaking of the Hoosiers reference, Tony, did you see the recent article about the museum in Milan about the '54 State champs? Also has a lot of movie artifacts. It is on my list to visit. In the short term, it is struggling, so I am sending a donation. Good article; it was linked in a recent Chatelain Mad Chatter column. I have already been there. Milan is a neat little town. Been there twice when work took me that way. I actually went to a sectional championship game in Milan circa 2003 or so. Was at the museum in early 2013; a very neat place that I hope they can preserve. I bought about $50 worth of stuff. I've also been to New Richmond (the actual town of Hickory in the movie), Butler Fieldhouse (for fun and a game; Xavier, Butler), Memory Hall where Rick Mount played HS hoops (which is in Lebanon, they shot the sectional finals there when Ollie hit the FTs) and the the church that was the town hall where Norman was saved. All of these within 45 minutes of Indianapolis (except Milan) as is Hoosier Gym. -
These threads are hilarious. We can literally win every game we play the rest of the year. We can lose most of them too. Such is life in the Big Ten. We have 10 games left and six are on the road. I'd have to think we'd be overachieving if we were better than 5-5 in those games. Just my take. Can we overachieve? Sure. Will we? I don't know. Some guys got to get right with themselves and player better, I know that.

Walt needs to sit his butt on the bench
hhctony replied to Section_316's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That Walt has played bad enough to have me supporting this thread is mind blowing. He needs to get right. And he needs to get right on the bench. What, he has two technicals, an ejection and at least another no-show in eight league games. In the words of Norman Dale, "Where you going?" "We gotta have five out there." "Sit down. SIT DOWN." -
NU -- While I agree with the general sentiment of your post and Bilas' opinion is spot on, I'd argue one small point. If one guy knew how to set a screen and the other guy knew how to set up his man and read the screen, all the grabbing and hand checking wouldn't matter. Because if I set a good screen for you, I'll make damn sure that guy guarding you isn't hand checking you. Screening is a lost art in basketball. That makes it easier to play defense, too.

This is probably required reading on the subject as well. Vance Walberg introduced a pretty darn good offense. But, few teams have the horses to run it. And, when you don't have the players to run it, well, you are easy to guard. http://www.si.com/more-sports/2008/02/12/memphis0218

It's an interesting conundrum for sure. The days of spreading the floor and scoring in transition seem to be over (unless you are Iowa State who scored 31 transition points in 24 possession against Kansas). I'm still at a loss for why motion with screening, passing and cutting can't work. And, I really don't know what I'm missing. It's seems clear to me the dribble-drive motion that is so popular is easy to guard because the ball doesn't move as fast. When the ball doesn't most fast, its easier to play defense. It doesn't make the defense better.

Why did we land in Madison at 3:27 AM? Ugh.

I have a little interest in the high school live streaming start-up striv.tv. Mostly I help with a sister site we developed this year called strivsports.com. We do a little basketball show on Wednesday nights. Join us when possible. Here is a link to our show from last night, joined by Mike Sautter from nebraskahshoops.com. http://strivsports.com/prep-huddle-live-1-14-15/ Mods -- If you want to take this down, feel free. It has nothing to do with Husker Hoops.

If we win tonight--- are we back on the bubble?
hhctony replied to Section_316's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I am not sure if it even makes sense -- given our poor non-conference stretch -- to even discuss the post season until the first half of conference play is done. The back half of conference play is likely to be even tougher for us. -
I'm telling you I have a hunch on Trueblood.

Sorry that I can't see tweets, but Jeff Goodman report that Jackson likely out six weeks with fractured foot. Surgery before the week is over. Man, that's a blow for the Badgers.

For a team that has massively underachieved and is currently on a trajectory for the NIT or no post-season tournament at all, I have an extremely difficult time praising any of the coaches. ^^^^ He apoligizes. He thought he was posting about a team that is 9-8 and 0-4 in their league. -
I got a hunch on Trueblood says he might do a redshirt thing and be a nice contirbutor in year four or five with us. Just a hunch.

Jimmy -- As I noted with Norm in another thread, I think David is an under appreciated Husker. His effort is fantastic. He's given us a hell of an effort during his career as an undersized 4-man. I hope the rest of his career here has some bright moments. This team seems to have some energy back. Not expecting to win in Madison, but expect great effort. Have rarely been let down by effort since Coach Miles took over. I think we are getting Wisconsin at a good time for us. And, I like that our turn around with them in Lincoln is short (they come here on 2/10) and think we now look like a team that can defend home court the rest of the year. Also of note. We have led in the second half of EVERY game this season. All sixteen of them. -

The great think about David, Norm, is doesn't care if he starts or not. I don't think any of these guys do. It's refreshing that we have a group of we-first players. Always so important in basketball. David might actually appreciate his minutes going down, because he can bring more energy. Frankly, he's not a 30 minute/game guy. You know the other thing we got with these bigs last night, too? Five assists from TP. He had 35 our first 14 games, total. When teams have to defend his pass AND his shot, it can make him great. -

I don't think so, Norm. Do you see changes needed? I like the rotation we have right now. It seems as though guys understand their role. If we can get Benny about five looks at 3 per game and he can make two and we can get him a 7-10 point scorer and we can get 10-12 points from the bench this team is a tough match up in the Big Ten. I just look at the lines from Moses and Leslee compared to David Rivers' line. David had 4 points, 4 fouls and 2 boards in 21 minutes. Moses had 5 points, 3 boards and 2 fouls in 13 minutes. Moses was on the verge of starting before he got hurt. Who's spot in the lineup would he take? We were soft to start the game, according to Coach Miles. What personnel packages would give you a better shot at reversing that? A part of me thinks Walt is better when someone else is playing the role of holding down the low post. I can think of several reasons why we might be better with Walt at the 4 and Moses at the 5 to start. Not saying it'll happen but I think you'd have to consider it if you're Tim Miles. Good point. I can see Moses and David switching spots so to speak. I really think what you'll end up seeing is Moses and David, hoepfully, each getting about 18-20 minutes and Leslee working his way back slowly as well. As many posters have said as well, I like when Moses and Leslee are on the floor at the same time as well. David, too, seems like he might relish the role of 'spark guy' as well. But, he's started plenty of games, too. You know, he's down to the end. I hope his last 15 or so games are really good for us. He's been very under appreciated at Nebraska. A quiet, hard working kid. -

Good to see us back with Leslee and Moses at least in the rotation. They clearly aren't all the way back, though I'd take the 5-5 night from Moses the rest of the season. And, man, if we can get Benny in that 7-10 point range nightly, this will be a tough team to beat. In fact, we can beat any team in the league save Wisconsin with this team. It will be interesting to see what we can do the rest of the year. I like our chances moving forward. -

Kent says Moses will be first big off bench. Leslee available. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Just arrived at Boys Town from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn. Had apparently turned heads in NYC and averaging over 20+ points in his first three games for the Cowboys. Sounds like he needs some weight, but a 6-6 kid. http://www.neprepzone.com/basketball/pospisil-newcomer-shines-for-boys-town-but-scotus-sizzles/article_d00570c2-9616-11e4-92f4-1bc352c5a0f0.html

I think we lose at least one player in the offseason.
