Nebraska(20-8) vs. Illinois(12-15) Game Thread
brfrad replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I still feel the committee will look at the Minnesota win in December as a Q1 or Q2 win. That would give us a 1 - 6 record in Q1 and a 4 - 2 record in Q2. If we win out, we have a shot at a PSU Q2 win. A win in the tournament, that resume isn't awful. Especially, when you consider 3 of the Q1 losses are Q1 games at home. A 4th with Creighton on the line. -
Why didn't you include Minnesota #1, Maryland, and Michigan? We are still learning how to win. Miles is actually .500 here. I think making the Big Dance would help. Especially, not knowing who will be back next year. I think recruiting would get an uptick. If everyone that was suppose to be back comes back. The NIT is not terrible. A chance again to learn how to win. Plus, give us some momentum.

Nebraska(20-8) vs. Illinois(12-15) Game Thread

I asked in another thread, what happens if we switch KU and Illinois around. People were saying we'd be in. Well, we basically did that today. Michigan became a Q1 win, and we received a Q3 loss. All is not over. Win the next 3, and we should be close to in. -
uneblinstu's postgame chatter: Vol: 10; ed: 29 - @ Illinois

We've been too reliant on Palmer. Palmer has been a stud for us since the 1st Illinois game. Struggled today. 13 points on 14 shots. Illinois did a good job denying him the ball. I expect Indiana and Penn State doing the same. Roby another double double. -

How do they have 46? Did the official scorer figure that last shot was going in? -
We have a quad 1 win!!! Suck it Luinardi!!

Get Jordy out or off of Black. Of course, right now, Black could throw up a shot behind his back, blindfolded, through his legs, and it will go in. -

Need to body up Illinois. Refs allowing Illinois play in our shorts. -
Absurd stat from Saturday: KU attempted 35 free throws, W Vir attempted 2. I think there was a game we played Baylor, when they attempted 40 to our 4, when we were in the Big 12.

Roby was 0-4 on dunks against Illinois

We didn't have Jordy the first time we played. He has played much better the last few games. I don't have his exact numbers, but I think he seems to get a couple buckets and around 5 rebounds a game. -
This was my first time watching Oklahoma. It seems they are way too dependent on Trae Young. If he is shooting well, they can beat anybody, but if he is struggling, anybody can beat them. Not a good recipe for a long stay in the tournament. Also, I am going to drive myself insane watching these bubble games. It's like I'm watching a Nebrasketball game all the time. Might need a little break from these games.

He only threw 69 pitches. I'd imagine the more he learns to pace himself, the more pitches he will be able to throw. Yesterday, listening to the game, it sounded like he was getting a little tired. He was struggling with his command in the 5th. I believe more experience as a starter the more he can pitch. If he threw 100 pitches, he would have gotten into the 7th inning.

Luis with 9 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings, with only 1 walk. It sounds like UC Riverside likes to swing the bat. That might have been part of the reason for his success. However, if he can get his stamina up to get into the 7th or 8th innings consistently, this team will be a force.

Penn State has work to do. That RPI is a pretty big eyesore.

My dream scenario. Very, very, very x 200 unlikely to happen. 1. Nebraska (14-4) 2. Ohio State (13-5) Defeated Michigan State, based on head-to-head record. 3. Michigan State (13-5) Lost to Ohio State based on head-to-head record. 4. Purdue (12-6) 5. Penn State (11-7) Defeated Michigan, based on head-to-head record. 6. Michigan (11-7) Lost to Penn State, based on head-to-head record. 7. Indiana (9-9) Defeated Maryland, based on head-to-head record. 8. Maryland (9-9) Lost to Indiana, based on head-to-head record. 9. Northwestern (8-10) 10. Wisconsin (7-11) 11. Minnesota (6-12) 12. Iowa (5-13) Defeated Illinois, based on head-to-head record. 13. Illinois (5-13) Lost to Iowa, based on head-to-head record. 14. Rutgers (3-15) Good news, we would have an automatic bid to the NIT. ?

It's just kind of annoying that everyone keeps harping that we have one quality win (one could argue we have two Minn at full strength) However, we haven't loss to a team we should have beat. Are we closer to the tourney if Gill's shot goes in against Kansas, but Palmer misses against Illinois?
-
Wait a minute. Everyone keeps telling me it doesn't matter how bad the teams are that beat you, but how good the teams are that you beat. It's why Nebraska is not close to a bid in everyone's eyes.

. I ran the Big Ten generator, and there is a scenario where we can still win the conference. I have a better chance of winning the lottery than it happening, but it's possible. -

Rutgers offensive strategy is amazing. Sanders going one-on-one, then pick and roll. If neither are there, have one of the other 4 players throw up something that resembles a shot, so the ball will go to one of their players. This Rutgers team is offensively challenged team. -

Some of it is Rutgers is a God awful shooting team. Part of it is not working hard enough to get position. The rest is being out of position by trying to block shots.
