  1. I thought that Palmer was clearly the best player on the floor - (maybe influenced by not having seen him before I guess - when I think about it Watson was the best player on the floor, but he just played like I expected). Duby was the one that surprised me the most in a positive way - thought he was much better than I expected with the ball. Not saying he is a guard - but just played smoother and more athletic than I thought. Much different than other 5th year transfer bigs we have gotten - i.e. Moses Abraham. Scrimmage was fairly low intensity which explains the lack of defense I think. But overall I was pleased with what I saw. This team is deep enough and quick enough to speed up the tempo and I do think that is what Miles wants to do this year. Much better shooting team as well if we can get open looks for the right guys.
  2. Great news. Hope he agrees to take the job permanently. Very smart, excellent businessman, very experienced in fundraising, plus he understands Nebraska and what it takes to be successful here.
  3. As opposed to putting out a press release saying that "Our top 3 candidates all said no so we ended up offering the job to someone that we found who would take it"? Not so single this one out (or imply this necessarily applies to you) but I am always shocked at how many people think "press releases" in this kind of a situation tell the entire true story. It is not just politicians that "spin".
  4. So does that mean Tim is now a candidate for the New Mexico State job ?
  5. With McDermott it is a circumstance of CU changing conferences. A better example (like Alford) would be Dana Altman who left K-State for Creighton (at a point where Creighton was very clearly a lower level job than K-State) and then parlayed that into the Oregon job.
  6. I am guessing I missed this somewhere in the game thread - but has there been any explanation for Jacobson not playing at all in the 2nd half Sunday? He had his had wrapped - but he was playing with it wrapped in the first half (at least at some point, did not notice at the start of the game or see him getting it wrapped during the game). I was assuming that has something to do with it as I did not think he was in any sense the "worst" of our problems in the first half Sunday.
  7. Actually I think that is the worst thing we could do. If you don't give him the extension/renewal now you are really tying his hand with recruiting. That is what SE will do if he truly wants to get rid of Miles but doesn't think he has the political power to do it right now - keep him but don't extend the contract so that you set him up for failure down the road. If SE wants to fire Miles he should do it now. Otherwise you give him the extension and see what happens next year. You can't fail to renew a coaches contract two years in a row and expect him to succeed long term. I want Tim to stay because I think we have made progress during his tenure overall and I don't think this is a good time to start over. But I would rather see us fire him now than keep him and not renew/extend his contract after this season.
  8. Yeah we were in it at 28-26 but everything fell apart after that point.
  9. Do we have anyone who does not already have 2 fouls?
  10. Great move by Ed - but have to go up strong and make that.
  11. Got to know who you are throwing it to. Not very likely McVeigh could finish that.
  12. Two really late whistles. Jordy earlier - Jacobson now. Hate it when refs decide whether or not to make a call based on how the play turns out.
  13. The pressure that Miles has felt this season is NOT coming from the media.
  14. As others have said - his "policy" of not saying anything during the season is very selective. Seems pretty much code for saying I am not ready to publicly say what I am going to do. When he knows what he is going to do he has no problem commenting - and sometimes even comments when he doesn't know. I think in the end Miles will be back. But if so it will be for the reasons mentioned by HB earlier in the thread. Anyone who doubts that the coaches have been legitimately concerned this season about whether they will be retained just is not paying attention at all. Recruits obviously know that issue is out there already - this article is not going to make them think Mile's tenure is less secure than they thought before reading it. If anything it should give them some comfort to see a reporter saying it would be a mistake to get rid of Miles. Not sure that recruiting is LB's point though. I think he is trying to put some light onto what is going on behind the scenes with respect to possible moves to make a change which is something I think most (admittedly not all) of the posters here agree would be bad for the program at this point. Again if you don't think SE went into this season with some expectation (some would say some hope?) that it would be Miles last then you are not paying attention.
  15. Not crazy at all. At least not in the sense that it could happen - although I agree it would be a crazily stupid decision. Yesterday goes the other way at the end and we falter down the stretch and no question Miles would be gone. SE wants that to happen - just needs to be able to justify it.
  16. Watched the game away from home without the sound - so I had no idea until I logged in here that Tai was hurt. He played like a warrior - and he absolutely shut down the play OSU wanted to run at the end with some terrific lock down D.
  17. Exactly. I don't see this as being even remotely close to the deal with Jordy and Morgan. That said I don't think we make too big of a thing out of this either. Should not have been a subject at the presser - or anything the conference should do based on this one act. I am also sure that in his mind the kid was trying to get rebounding position and was not just out to maliciously injure Tai. All that said if I am Pat Chambers and I see this I make sure the kid understands that this was not the appropriate way to behave on the basketball court regardless of whether he was trying to get rebounding position.
  18. I did not notice it then either. Miles needs to be sending this film clip to both the conference and to Pat Chambers. I would not expect the conference to do anything but store it away for future reference if the kid repeats this behavior. Don't know about Chambers but if I was the coach I would discipline this player in some form - show him the clip and then tell him when you do this kind of crap you run stairs for awhile.
  19. I get the statement about Gill and the 3pt defense in theory - but never really saw Anton focus much on the defensive side when he was playing. I think he has the athleticism to be a lock-down defender and I hope he comes back with the attitude to do that next season. I think his upside defensively is probably higher than his offensive potential at this point (although I certainly hope I am wrong about his offense - but inconsistent shooter has been the label for him since before he got to NU).
  20. Thanks for really going into detail in analyzing the Big 10 race. I think you can come to the same conclusion in a simpler way. I think this game (and the remaining home games) are critically important because if we lose vs Penn St. (or Illinois in particular) - the chances that Miles is gone increase significantly - which personally I think will be a big setback to the progress we have been making in the program. .
  21. Pretty sure not. There is a maximum % of games that you can play in to qualify. Not sure of the exact percentage but it is something like 20% and he far exceeded that this season.
  22. Anything now is speculation and nothing is guaranteed - but I would be more optimistic going into next season than possibly any season since Nee was the coach. Possible exception for one or two Collier years when I thought we would be better than things turned out those seasons. Biggest unknown that is critical would be keeping Morrow and Watson both healthy all season.
  23. Pretty sure the University only gets Athletic Department money in the form of payments for the athletic scholarships (tuition fees, room & board on campus). Not an insignificant number but also not one based on athletic department receipts. That said our athletic department is at least self-supporting - lots of schools need to subsidize the athletic department with state funds.
  24. I think I am going to grow to hate this Bohannon kid.
