2014 SG Jordan Cornish -> UNLV-> Tulane
bball23 replied to uneblinstu's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I want Cornish, don't get me wrong....but let me say this....the guy obviously loves attention. I get that he is an 18 year old kid, but he retweets EVERYTHING and seems to enjoy the fights/arguing on twitter amongst the fan bases. I'm sure I would act the same way as an 18 year old and everybody talking about me..... But look at a guy like Tarin Smith....extremetly smart, seems humble and doesn't seem to "crave" the attention that Jordan does (at least via twitter) Again...let me make this clear....I WANT Jordan Cornish, but I won't be as bummed losing out on him as I was for Deng Deng. Deng Deng just seemed so down to earth when you hear him talk and I loved his video.....seemed relentless. -

Jerome via twitter just committed to UNLV....so, do they have many (if any) spots left for Jordan? -

There flight is delayed (via twitter) in Colorado...isn't that just typical NU luck! Hopefully they make it safely. -

When does Cornish get to campus? -
Also, as somebody pointed out about the transfers...so many transfers end up going to a place they were PREVIOUSLY recruited. Just like Petteway did with NU. Miles had recruited him to CSU...he went to Texas Tech, didn't like it if memory serves me, it was Terran's parents that actually reached out to Miles. They had liked the relationship they had before from when he recruited them to CSU. So the more Miles gets in on guys now, the better off it could eventually end up. Maybe Deng Deng doesn't end up liking Baylor after next year...maybe he reaches back out to Miles to come to NU? You just never know how this all pans out. The more guys this staff gets in relationships with, the better. Then having a guy from Tarin Smith for example playing under a legendary coach may help us on down the road get more guys from that school.

Say a top 50 guy has 35 offers and only 1 team gets him. Are the other 34 considered losers in that recruiting battle?

Coach Miles took over a HUGE mess and in year 2 he takes us into the NCAA tourney, wins coach of the year, a 4th place finish in the B10 and because we have missed on a few recruits its time to panic? NU will ALWAYS be a tough place to recruit too. Its just the way it is. ISU has a TON and I mean a TON of in-State talent to recruit too..now, Hoiberg has gone a different route and it has worked out very well for him. Miles looks to be in the same mold. Sprinkle in a few HS kids with JUCO's and transfers and get them to buy in. Teams like Wichita State and New Mexico have had good basketball success. Marshall has been there for a long time so has built something pretty special there. The guy can flat out coach too and that's why so many teams want him when jobs open. CU will be interesting. McDermott has been forunate enough to have his son the past 4 seasons. Yes they signed a couple of nice recruits and got a few transfers, but none have played a game yet so we will see how they pan out. I would say our transfers (Pitch/Petteway) have done pretty damn well for us as well and still have 2 more years to play (assuming Petteway doesn't leave for the NBA after next year). Yes Watson and Huff look like good transfer pickups for CU, but they came from Mid-Major programs so you never know how they will do in the Big East? Not knocking them, just pointing out it will be a different level of competition. And what I find ironic about so many on the board is they seem so upest losing Deng for example but forget that we are bringing in Tarin Smith, Hammong, Ayegba and Fuller of a RS. Who's to say they all don't help us down the road? Hammond may now get the luxury of a RS with Ayegba here for a year. Tarin Smith may fill in and play right away, or he too could RS with Parker/Webster back. I'm a HUGE fan of RS freshman if you have the luxury to do so. Its why I kind of like the 1 year transfer guys a bit when you bring in frosh...it allows them if necessary to RS. Having them for year 4-5 can pay huge dividends as they will be mentally and physicallyl tougher to play in the B10. I'm gonna trust Miles...the guys has done well wherever he has been and already in year 2 put NU in the NCAA's and Nebraska basketball has more buzz around the program now more than I can ever remember.

Kimani...just saw this too. Will be interesting to see what happens here. I really hope he is blown away this weekend, cancels that trip all together and commits to NU. -

They just tweeted a new article about Cornish but sadly I'm not a member. If anybody reads it gives us a breakdown. -
Deng Deng 2014 Juco F *committed to Baylor 5.4.14*
bball23 replied to Badgett Fan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Are we complaining about closing on recruits when the kids hasn't even signed anywhere yet? If you were an 18-19 year old kid wouldn't you want to check out every place you could? Get treated like gold? I would. Doesn't mean Deng Deng won't end up here either. Tim Miles in year 2 got this group to the NCAA tourney for the first time in 15 years and some are complaining already about how hard it is to recruit too? I know it is, but goodness, let's give this some time. Hammond, Smith and Ayegba obviously like it enough to sign and they (on paper) are good players. So it can be done. We still have a shot at Cornish and Deng. Doesn't mean we get them for sure, but lets at least wait to bicker and moan until they decide where they actually end up. -
I simply like that Tai is with Benny and Petteway...Petteway is one of the if not the hardest worker NU has (as least that is what we are told a lot). So for Tai to be in there working with Terran is awesome.

Why is it assumed that Jacob Hammond will redshirt?
bball23 replied to PimpMario's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's often assumed that approximately one person will redshirt per year due to perceived readiness/depth/etc. Last year it was Nate Hawkins. Two years ago it wasn't any freshmen because Pitch and Petteway were redshirting due to transfer Three years ago I think it was Josiah Moore. Miles will state publicly who he wants and who he doesn't want to redshirt but typically defers to the decision of the player. Nick Fuller RS..not Hawkins. I assume people think now with Ayegba/Smith that this allows Hammond a year to get stronger and get up to par with the speed of the game in practice. They say big men sometimes have a harder time adjusting to the speed/strength of the game. I for one kind of hope he does RS especially if he isn't going to get a ton of minutes. IF he can play right away and give us a solid 12-15 minutes a game then you play him. But if he is going to get mop up duty or spot minutes why waste a year? Think for example how much better Ubel would have been for us last year with a RS year under his belt? -
Anybody know much more on the Chiles kid? Is he going to take a visit does anybody know?
-
Robin has an article up on him and said this is a Kenya Hunter guy....
-
Norm, couldn't agree more. I'm with you 100% on this. I was just telling a co-worker today that too many people have "given up" (and that may be too harsh) on Tai....Tai in my eyes is still going to be damn good. Guy has the tools, body, potential. Just last year was a tough adjustment for him. He now knows what to expect and will work on that this summer. Some people also were saying Petteway early in the year was "killing our team" "shoots too much" etc.....I (and not to toot my own horn) immediately posted that for years NU has lacked that "go to" guy in which Terran was trying to be. He proved a lot of people wrong on how good he is. I expect Tai to show great improvements from this year to next. Look at how many times Tai was able to get to the rim but simply couldn't finish....if he can get just a tad stronger and now knows what to expect he can make that adjustment. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Tai is a 8-9 PPG guy next year, 3-4 assists and just does what is needed for us to do well.

You know what the beauty of all this is? That guys are going to have to COMPETE for minutes next year which in turn makes your team better. They work harder, practice harder, etc....I honestly could care less who starts, I think its one of the most over-rated things in sports. Tell me who ends the game? Plays in crunch time. Those are the guys I worry about. Sure some guys get a kick out of hearing their name announced over the loud speakers in the starting lineup...but honestly, what's it matter? Give me 5 solid guys to give me that last 5 minutes of the game. Or those 5 guys that can stop a run, make a big shot, get a key defensive stop...
-
Not sure if anybody saw this....the guard is transferring from USC and is eligible for one year next year right away. Averaged 17.8 PPG. Guys a baller. Obviously I have NO idea if NU is even looking or if he would even come this way, but its kind of fun to see who comes and goes from schools.

Prospects visiting Nebraska in the very near future
bball23 replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
What would this guy bring? Not to be a downer on this visit...but he wasn't even getting minutes on an NIT GTown team this year. With that said, I guess Petteway was only scoring 3.3 points per game at TT. The difference though is that Moses has been at GTown for 3 years. -
Nik Stauskas is leaving Michigan for the NBA....really not a big surprise. Will be interesting to see what GRIII does now.
-
Northwestern Center Aaron Liberman leaving the program.
-
Penn State freshman guard Graham Woodward has received his release. Only averaged 2.9 points per game but did play in 31 games this season.
-
Question on Ryan Anderson (would I would LOVE to get). Guy is a career 13.5 PPG 7.5 RPG guy. With the coaching change, if he were to transfer here (no clue why he would, but the Rosenthal factor .....would he be eligible right away with his coaching change? Or would he have to sit a year then play? Curious how it works when a coach leaves.

I honestly don't see Miles leaving for quite some time for numerous reasons. B10 conference is one of if not the best Facilities at NU are unreal His assistants are getting almost what they want He is building a winner and we all know damn well that this State will go bonkers if NU hoops becomes a winner (see baseball w/Van Horn) Close to his family $$$ (we will open up the pocket books to keep this man around as they are seeing what he can/will do for NU) The only reason I ever see Miles feel he may need to leave is recruiting here can be difficult/frustrating. At the same time, if NU does continue to win, this will get much easier. Telling guys they can play in the B10, great facilities and in front of a sellout crowd kind of helps
