  1. Not really sure how I made it through this game. Gonna be a high caffeine day today. Some rambling thoughts that may or may not be coherent. 1st half: - Pregame technical. Awesome. - Rivers a little choppy with the ball to start. - Down 8-0 to start wasn't ideal. - I like Benny's aggressiveness after picking up the charge. - Looked like we haven't played in a week and a half. - Why does it seem like Walter falls over whenever he tries to drive? - After falling behind 8-0, I like how NU responded. Aggressive and taking advantage of Hawaii mistakes. - Missing the front end three times is killer. - Petteway with the stupid techincal. Such a silly thing to do. It looked fairly innocent. You wonder if they were warned before that. - No energy - 11 turnovers - 7 field goals 2nd half: - NU comes out aggressive to start the half and it pays off. Need to keep that up. - 20-6 run for NU, then Petteway picks up his 4th on a cheap call and the momentum changed again. - Why are we picking up the dribble when we cross half court? That's fundamental basketball. Do we practice breaking a press? - It's like we can't score when Petteway's not on the floor. - Tarin Smith gets better with each game. - Man, we need Leslee and Moses back. - It's not even the little things when you leave 14 points at the line, plus the two before the game started and turn it over 18 times. Nobody to blame but yourself on that. That's all I've got tonight. I gotta be up for work soon.
  2. If he's skilled enough to play at this level, he'll play before Morrow if he's eligible right away. For starters, he's considerably bigger than Morrow and will have a head start in the weight room with two years of elite development. I think defensively and rebounding, he'll be able to do some things. We don't get to see enough of his game since he doesn't play much to really get a judge of what he can do, but I don't expect the 18 year old freshman to walk on campus and be better than Agau assuming he comes here, of course.
  3. Washut said on one of his radio interviews today he may visit on NYE when Indiana comes to town.
  4. If they can keep their heads in it.
  5. How long of a break is there between games? LMU/WSU will start on time, so assuming things don't go crazy long, 12:30 is probably a good estimate for tonight's start time.
  6. I don't really care whether the school is a factory or not. That doesn't mean he walks in and is in the starting 5. If TP stays, I don't see him starting, for sure. If he goes, which I don't really expect, it depends on how coach wants to do it. If Agau comes and can play immediately, he'll have a real shot at that spot too. There are way too many variables still to be determined to assume Ed will be the guy. He might be, but there are a lot of possibilities for next year.
  7. I misread that, my bad. But with AW3 entering the mix, he'll have a much better chance to take River's spot in the starting lineup than Marrow will, if Petteway stays. If he leaves, I'm not sure even then it's a great chance he starts. There's a lot of ways it could play out.
  8. Not sure he'll start, but he might be the first guy off the bench. Shavon's not leaving early, either.
  9. Couple years in the weight room and at the training table will do wonders for this kid.
  10. So far I've seen Kansas, Mizzou, Wisconsin and us as having expressed interest. This is going to be a battle to get this kid. Having some pre-existing relationship with Shavon helps. Gotta think he knows some people at KU and Mizzou too.
  11. He's a kid from Kansas, so he may go there or KSU or Wichita, but it there's already a relationship there, there might be an opening. Top 30 kid out of HS two years ago. Had some big time offers then, obviously. Be curious to see where he ends up. https://rivals.yahoo.com/byu/basketball/recruiting/player-Semi-Ojeleye-114227
  12. Walt plays best when he plays with a bit of an edge. When he's talking and pointing and getting in guys face. That's when Walt's at his best on the court. Haven't seen much of that him, at least not for long stretches, this season.
  13. Sorry guys, I'll be back for the holiday tournament. I don't care what it looked like, we needed that win. Just gotta hold on til Moses and Leslee get back.
  14. Final thought of the night. We're going to see teams do this until we get an outside threat and post presence. This probably isn't a surprise to anyone, but teams have figured out that if you let Petteway do his thing and try to shut down Shavon, until Walt gets going, this team is very beatable. This is where we find out how good of a coach Miles is. How will he address this? You've supposedly got a shooter on your bench, why isn't he playing? That'd open things up, right? How are the coaches going to combat teams packing in the lane? It's really going to be fascinating to see what they come up with because until they figure it out, you're going to see a lot more of this.
  15. No, I think Tai's a pretty solid defender most of the time.
  16. I wonder if we'll see more teams "let Terran get his" and try to shut down Shavon. Worked tonight. Makes sense, really.
  17. They just got waxed by Tulsa. I'm concerned this result says more about us than it does about them. It's a rivalry game. Those tend to bring out the best in teams. For the Jays, until NU beats them, there's nothing to fear, even in our building. It's a "throw out the records" situation. The Jays got up for this game, don't take too much stock in their poor showings leading up to it on the road.
  18. The demise of the Creighton Bluejays has been greatly exaggerated. - It started out so great. The energy was high, the crowd was alive and the Huskers were making shots. And then it all stopped. It was like the Huskers landed the first punch and then didn't expect the Jays to respond. - I think the game turned when, up 24-16 and Pitchford took an ugly step back 18' fade-away jumper and the whole arena said "NOOOOOOOOO!". It led to Creighton finding Rick Krecklow wide open in the corner to cut the lead to 5. The game never felt the same after that. - Really, nobody had a good game. Terran started out hot, but didn't have much the rest of the way. - The three unforced turnovers from Parker were killer. - Parker vs. Chapman was fun to watch, though I think AC got the better of BP more often than not, that was a fun matchup. - NU has absolutely no identity on offense right now. I have no idea what they're trying to do. When they face a team that does a good job of cutting off the lane, they look lost. - If we're going to be a team built on defense, we have to bring the intensity for longer stretches. We lost it after the first ten minutes of the game or so. From that point, the Jays outscored us 51-31 after we went up 24-14. We got dominated the last 25 minutes of the game. That's unacceptable. - We'll see a lot more of this if they can't find someone to consistently hit from the perimeter or score from the post. They have neither right now, which makes them easy to defend when you face a team with similar athletes. That kept Shields and Petteway from being able to get to the rim, thus they were unable to get to the line, which is where they make their living. Tip your hat to CU there. - That said, I though NU had a bunch of opportunities to push the tempo and maybe get the Jays in some foul trouble and for whatever reason chose not to. It cost them the game. - Our perimeter defense was bad tonight, especially in transition. The Jays have been loaded with shooters for roughly 15 years now. That they still have them shouldn't be a surprise. - Bad Walt showed up tonight. NU can't win if he's going to keep going 1-9 from the floor and a couple of them were U-G-L-Y. Also, he can't keep giving away fouls on those illegal screens. We're short on post depth as it is, stop giving away fouls on the offensive end. - McDermott flat out-coached Miles tonight. No bigger moment on the inbounds play with about a minute left when CU checked in Artino, I think, and NU was in a small lineup, Walt or Moses should have immediately checked in with him. It was an easy lob and score for the Jays and it broke the will of NU at that point. That was coaching. - If Webster is going to play the 2, he has to be a scoring threat. - There were a couple things I liked from this game. Webster's defense is really good. He brings a high level of energy more consistently than most. He can be really disruptive when he does that. - The other thing I liked is that Moses looks more comfortable out there. He's still a step slow, but he looks more relaxed. He's making more plays on the defensive end than he did early in the season. I'm sure there's more I could say. But for right now, I'll leave it there. Really disheartening to lose this game. This team still has a long way to go and there's still a lot of season left, but I fear that with all the emotion and energy spent on this one, it could linger. Hopefully it doesn't or Cincinnati will come in here next weekend and give us everything we can handle.
  19. What's awesome is the range of people (who are in positions of making a difference) that read HHC, and are responsive to suggestions. Didn't we have the PBA events director (or something) post here a few times about a year ago? Also, we've heard from Mike Welch and Kent Pavelka, among others within the last year or so. And Norm Peterson. Don't forget him. He was all "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!" The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
  20. I love that we can reach out to the guy and work it out. Seriously, that's awesome.
  21. My suggestion, get more people to yell louder (or get more people to join in). He's filling a void, not trying to drown you out.
  22. - If we never see Karl Hess do another Nebrasketball game, it'll be too soon. - Was as impressed by the first half as I've been by a half all season. Complete effort. - The second half, I thought we lost a lot of our defensive intensity, then FSU started hitting some shots. For NU to hold on was pretty big, but they've got to keep up that defensive intensity throughout. - Refs changed this game, in the second half. At least two of the fouls on Petteway were laughable. The one double foul was hilarious. - Parker's 3 was clutch. - Smitty's 3 was Cassell like. - Rivers didn't have a great game, but had a couple hustle plays that were huge. - Abraham had some nice box outs and a big layup late. - Hammond in the first half played some big minutes and I thought he did ok. Didn't hurt the team, at least. - Our post depth got exposed tonight, though I don't know that we'll face another team with that many guys over 7 ft. - Webster had some looks that he absolutely has to knock down if he's going to be who we all think he can be. - 14 turnovers isn't too bad. - If FSU was any sort of free throw shooting team, they win this game easily. - This was a pretty gutty effort, all things considered. Hopefully this will pay off down the road when they face, shall we say, more hostile crowds. I'll never complain about a road win.
