  1. The real disappointing thing about putting together this roster that demanded a different style of play is that we're mostly running the same stuff we did last year. Surround Mast and Berke with guys who can shoot
  2. No one for Nebraska on the injury report

USC was able to hold Tonje scoreless, but lost by 15 in the effort. Player to watch: John Blackwell Blackwell's emergence as a scoring threat last season led to Connor Essegian sitting on the bench and eventually transferring to Nebraska. Now as Wisconsin's main shooting threat, the streaky Blackwell is only shooting 32.9% from 3 though on any given day is capable of going off Player to watch: Steven Crowl The 7ft senior center looks to be a difficult piece to guard for Nebraska given his capacity to pass out of the post. However, behind the addition of John Tonje and movement to the highest tempo offense of any Wisconsin team this century, the Badgers find themselves ranked and towards the top of the conference. The Badgers have been 3pt heavy, currently ranking 1st in B1G conference play for 3pt rate. Look for at least 30 attempts from deep against a Nebraska team that is likely to double team the posts. The Badgers seem streaky from deep like most any team, as they've made anywhere from 22.7% to 67.7% from deep in conference. Regardless, the Badger offense has been their strength this season and has only been held under a point per possession once. Defensively, this isn't a vintage Badger team but they do well enough. They don't force turnovers nor block shots...they simply force you to take tough shots. You can probably pin 3 of WIsconsin's 4 losses on their defense, games in which the Badgers were outscored. Perhaps Nebraska is looking for a fast start on offense by potentially moving to Morgan and Hoiberg in the starting lineup. The very odd thing about Morgan is that you'd assume the offense would function better with him on the court though numbers show that for whatever reason the opposite is true. Actually, the two players that really seem to help offensively relative to when they're off the court have been Gary and Essegian. It might be the case that Nebraska is looking for Morgan to match up with Crowl's speed and to start the game with a possible defensive matchup. Despite a 5 game losing streak, Nebraska has only fallen 9 places in KenPom because with the exception of Purdue, Nebraska has been a couple of plays away from winning. If Nebraska can figure out how to hang around in this one on the road, can they figure out how to make those winning plays? Prediction: Wisconsin 85 - Nebraska 79

  5. We certainly tried to get Frankie here. Don't think we considered Tonje or Saint in some part because we got destroyed by A&M and thus were not going to replicate USC's offense of wings. I'm not so sure that Boogie Coleman won't go down as a better transfer than Gavin at Nebraska because at Boogie at least brought leadership to the table.
  6. What's happening off the court that's leading to the current product on the court?

  8. Notes from UNL The game featured nine ties and10 lead changes, as the largest lead for either team was six points. Juwan Gary scored a career-high 27 points, eclipsing his previous career high of 22 points against Minesota on Feb. 25, 2024. Gary posted his third 20-point game of the season and the sixth of his career. Gary’s 11 field goals were the most by a Husker this season. Brice Williams added 17 points, including 15 in the second half. Williams scored in double figures for the 17th time in 19 games this season. Connor Essegian finished with 15 points, his ninth double-figure game off the bench this year. NU now has 20 double-figure efforts from its bench in 2024-25. Essegian hit three 3-pointers, marking his eighth game of the season with at least three 3-pointers. Rollie Worster tied his season high with six assists while adding six rebounds and four points off the bench. Nebraska was efficient from inside the arc, finishing 22-of-31 (71 percent) on 2-point field goals. Nebraska was out-rebounded for only the third time in 19 games this season as USC held a 36-31 advantage on the glass. Ahron Ulis made his first start as a Husker pm Thursday, as Nebraska used its fourth different lineup of the season
  9. This is only the 3rd game Nebraska game he's reffed this season.
  10. Same guys who were out else I would have posted
  11. Indeed it is Morgan who is questionable tonight
  12. USC has started their 6'10" guy at center every single game and his minutes have ranged from 4 to 29. Unless he's also one of the guys that is banged up, Meah is going to start.
  13. If you put a mike in front of Musselman he will talk and its likely to be interesting
  14. Considering how painfully long it takes me to write these things up despite doing this for like 10+ years, much appreciated.

This roster has 10 transfers. USC and Nebraska both faced St Mary's, both teams losing on neutral courts This will be a matchup of former NBA coaches as Musselman coached Golden State and Sacramento USC assistant Quincy Pondexter was Braxton Meah's AAU coach. Claude gets to the line a lot and has a reliable mid-range shot. Hopefully he's not too Terrance Shannon for the Nebraska defense Player to watch: Saint Thomas The Omaha native and Northern Colorado transfer is nearly a clone of Claude. While he doesn't get to the FT line nearly as much, he leads the team in rebounds, assists, and steals. Thomas held John Tonje to 0 points. Starting center Josh Cohen has a Meah like role where he starts and plays a random number of minutes. During his career he's been efficient inside against lesser opponents but has a hard time converting in the B1G; both center types are foul prone. Last year, SMU fired Rob Lanier as they looked to jump to the ACC. They ended up hiring USC coach Andy Enfield who had just gone through the circus act of posting a losing season with Bronny James. USC decided to hit up career scene changer Eric Musselman who had stayed in Arkansas long enough for his liking. Musselman is from nowhere and from everywhere, the son of a well-travelled college and NBA coach Bill Musselman. This USC roster is comprised mostly of transfers like most any other Eric Musselman roster of previous years. It's a versatile roster of interchangeable defenders though its lack of size does limit its ability to defend inside. The defense is currently constructed to leave it up to you to defeat yourself with bad passes and dumb plays, something Nebraska has been notorious for this season. As long as the Huskers can keep their composure, there are plenty of free points to be generated at the FT line against several of the foul prone Trojans. USC is chaos for better or for worse. Offensively USC has preferred to work into the paint where they'll draw plenty of contact. It certainly would not be out of the realm of possibilities for the Trojans to completely change their identity for this game and fire away from 3. For the most part the Trojans have been front runners; if you can get to them early its not likely they will be able to come back. They also seem to go as Desmond Claude goes...if he's having a bad night most likely so is USC. We've almost made it to the conclusion of this writeup and haven't mentioned Nebraska much. Currently in a 4 game skid, Nebraska might be looking at a starting lineup change simply because Fred Hoiberg might not have a player or two available. Like most every home game this season, a win here represents one less road win in conference required to attempt to make the NCAA tournament. Prediction: Nebraska 77 - USC 70 View full article

  17. If Morgan doesn't play, it's likely that Berke comes off the bench as our backup center and thus Essegian enters the starting lineup. I suppose if Fred wanted to get nasty to start the game playing both Ulis and Worster or even Sam.
  18. Late, late night basketball of Washington at Oregon. Breidenbach still runs weird.
  19. Thanks, I merged the threads
  20. In today's presser Fred said we had a couple of guys who were held out of practice due to injury though were hoping they'd be available tomorrow so it doesn't sound bad. It's possible we could see a lineup change due to availability.
