Nebraska (12-3) VS. Purdue (12-4) Game Thread
hhcmatt replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I've been thinking about this a lot because his rebounding numbers and his 2pt shooting% would agree with you -
If you need 1 more of those wins to get to 8 wins, you need more wins. Unless you're fortunate enough to luck your way into the 8-9 game, at 9-11 you're looking at playing the 10-16th place games. At that point your second game would be against a 4-6 which could move the needle
-
Even after giving up all those 3s in Iowa, feels like our FT shooting and inability to dictate tempo was what cost us the game.

There was some two man play early on where he just bounced a pass between both our two defenders for an easy basket that I couldn't believe. Tip of the cap there. Penn St basically took the ball out of his hands with Ace Bailey in their win. -
Yeah, I noticed that as well and it makes sense because if you can move the ball around enough on our defense you should find a good look at a 3. Next up, an 8pm game home against Rutgers and their "but we don't pass, Tina" 258th best assist offense.

Notes from UNL *-Nebraska falls to 2-1 against ranked opponents with today’s loss. *-Nebraska falls to 0-9 in West Lafayette since joining the Big Ten, the only place among the 13 Big Ten schools (heading into this season) where NU has not won on the road. *-Purdue shot .622 from the field was the second Husker opponent in 33 games to over 50 percent against Nebraska (Michigan State, .518 on Dec. 7). Purdue’s .622 is an opponent high against Nebraska this season. *-Connor Essegian’s 17-point effort was the 16th double-figure effort by a Husker reserve this season. *-Purdue set an opponent record for 3-poitners in a game with 19, breaking the previous NU opponent mark of 18, set twice (at Minnesota, 3/8/20; vs. Wisconsin 1/21/20). *-Berke Büyüktuncel had a career-high four steals, topping his previous best of three on two other occasions, most recently at Hawai’i on Dec. 23. *-Sam Hoiberg finished with two steals, his six multi-steal game this season. *-Brice Williams was held to nine points, matching his lowest output of the season. It is only the second time in 16 games he was held out of double figures. *-Today marked just the second time this season that Nebraska was out-rebounded, as Purdue had a 33-20 advantage on the glass. -

Purdue Info Head Coach: Matt Painter (20th season) Location: West Lafayette, IN Conference: B1G Nickname: Boilermakers Mascot: Boilermaker Special, Purdue Pete Line: Purdue by 8.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 9 KenPom rank: 16 Nota bene: Nebraska has never won at Mackey arena. The one road win Nebraska has over Purdue was in 1956 when Jerry Bush's Nebraska team won 65-62 7'4" freshman center Daniel Jacobsen is out for the season. With 7'2" sophomore center Will Berg barely playing, this is Purdue's smallest team in over a decade Purdue relies on its big 3 of Braden Smith, Trey Kaufman-Renn, and Fletcher Loyer for scoring. No other active Boilermaker is scoring more than 6 points per game. Purdue's non-con schedule rank is 14th in KenPom Elkhorn North product Jack Lusk is a walk-on transfer for the Boilermakers after starting his college career at D-III Millikin University Player to watch: Braden Smith The Preseason B1G POTY has been living up to they hype, leading the B1G in assists while ranking 2nd in steals and minutes played. Smith is currently shooting 42.2% from 3. Player to watch: Trey Kaufman-Renn Purdue's leading scorer and rebounder is a smaller starting center than Purdue traditionally plays but has been dominant offensively, scoring in double digits in every game played this season. TKR is a threat to get to the FT line where he shoots just 57.4%. Player to watch: Fletcher Loyer Loyer is still making 3s for Purdue, hitting on 45.5% of them this season. Loyer actually has more takes from 2 this season and is a 3 level scorer. Purdue still works their inside-out offense with Boliermaker post players kicking out to perimeter shooters as needed. The Huskers will need plenty of juice to scramble in this game and one has to question how much they'll have in what could be a sleepy Sunday crowd. One way that Nebraska can keep up with Purdue is on the offensive boards. Between Purdue's relative lack of size and methodical pace, opportunities for second chance points should be available. It seems that that a path to victory against Purdue is to make the role players beat you and it seems inevitable that the Huskers will throw double teams against Trey Kaufman-Renn all day long. Trying to take away both Smith and Loyer seems problematic given Purdue's patience. Mackey Arena has been a house of horrors for the Huskers since joining the conference. The closest Nebraska has been to beating Purdue there was back in 2014 when the Boilers finished under .500. However, this is arguably the best conference team Nebraska has brought to Purdue. Is it enough? Prediction: Purdue 84 - Nebraska 68

Correct, we are recruiting Michael Jacobson's brother to play TE for us. Funny enough, Michael is currently a TE on the practice squad of the Saints. -

They're not going to budge on their policy. In case you won't either some options include - buying some other tickets with your credit - see if your bank offers a "virtual account number". Otherwise if it's possible to open up another account where you only use it for online and keep a zero balance, that's another option. - set up an account with an online bank. Probably just shifts the problem. -
