Nebraska (4-3) vs. Georgia Tech (3-2) Game Thread

I still don’t get why Arop has gotten zero looks. He just seems athletic enough to adjust if he’s thrown in there. We need a hustle guy who is serviceable from 3 and can rebound a bit. He must be way behind in practice. -

Kid is a stud. Very similar skill set to Cam. Elite passer. -

1. He’s Japanese. 2. No. He’s a legitimately good prospect and will likely be our best shooting player since Cary Cochran. -
Luckiest wins/unluckiest losses

Creswell hit basically a half court three before Jamar Johnson’s all time great buzzer beater against KU. Not a lot of people remember Creswell’s shot prior but it kind of kept a few people seated. My dad and I made our way to the b section to watch the end of that one because they had, of course, cleared out. Danny Nee post game on live radio: “Keep your asses in your seats.” -

Kid’s game looks like it’s entirely modeled after James Hardin. Really crafty lefty with the pick and roll and outstanding in shooting off the dribble. I think he’ll be more of a scoring PG than an off guard, and that’s great because we’ll need a PG in the system for 2021 to take over in 2022. He has enough athleticism to be serviceable on D and outscore most of the guys that guard him. -
It’s early, but the more I watch, the more I think this hire is the steal of the next decade of college basketball. Fred is a different breed of alpha. He’s extremely unique with regard to the respect he calmly commands and very, very cerebral. I’m already sold on the in-game coaching upgrade. If he can recruit at the same level or above TM, we’re going to be regular pesky conference contenders. He has a bonafide system that appears to still work quite well philosophically.

Brutal night from Jervay. -
We are so good in transition off of defensive rebounds that I still want to see Cross and Yvan in at the same time. Rebounding and the inability to alter shots defensively is almost as terrifying as our free throws. Starting to figure it out offensively though. But transition is our only prayer. Need two bigs. Samari and Thor both gave good minutes.

Next year's roster is already interesting. I'd guess it would be something like: Mack-Burke Green-Burke-Curtis Banton-Thor Stevenson-Cross-Arop Yvan-Walker Not a ton of minutes for an incoming frosh SG unless he's all world. That said, Sallis in the 2021 class should be licking his chops to play here immediately. Hope we get Williams. I think his injury is a huge question mark, though, and I'm fascinated to see what kind of recruits this staff can pull.

Great games from the guards. Extremely efficient game from Cheatham. Thrilled to see him aggressive on the offensive end. Dachon was great, and he set the tone tonight with his toughness on the glass. Mack was out of his mind. If he's even remotely serviceable from three, he's an NBA athlete. I thought Jervay played his best game so far. He was a bulldog for us and did a great job on the defensive end, rebounding, and passing. Very patient night from him. The young bigs were solid, but Doc's gotta work with Cross on his post defense. Yikes. Not a great contribution from the bench beyond Cross. Thor has gotta hit open threes. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why Kavas is getting minutes over Arop. I want to see Arop play with this tempo so bad. We could really use a high flyer at the 4 in transition. I just don't get it. There's no way he's worse than what Kavas is giving us. Arop can defend, rebound, run, jump, and is serviceable from three. Throw him in there. ***As for NE kids on the other roster, I was pretty darned impressed with Wingett's skillset even though he had an off night, and the freshman from Aurora can play the game too--very unique skills at his size.*** Just play hard man. Good things happen.

South Dakota St (3-1) vs. Nebraska (0-2) Game Thread

Can't shoot from your chest in a real conference. Unreal defensive liability. I gotta think Arop can give us some high flying plays in transition, and he's actually a decent 3pt threat. -

There is no way Kavas is better than Arop. How?! -
Not knowing what said issues may have been, I'd like to have Amir and Heiman. That said, a freed Stevenson would certainly help me forget. He's the #1 thing I'm trying to keep in perspective. Unique talent.

Positives I have seen thus far...

I support this post. Fred is a dude. I have very few concerns he's going to get some dudes in here. He's already got some great looking underclassmen and some killers sitting out. It's really an incredible parallel to Frost in terms of timing. The only difference is a basketball roster can change overnight with the addition of 1-2 players. Football takes 3-4 years of those sorts of players filling out each class. It takes awhile to get used to having alpha dogs patrolling the sidelines, but they typically get their way because they are relentless. I'm glad we have one at the helm of both prominent men's programs. -
I'd like to see Cross and Yvan as our starters at the 4-5. We are too good in transition to never get a rebound or get slowly murdered in post iso plays every half court possession. My rotation until Stevenson joins would be: Mack - Easley Green - Curtis Cheatham - Burke Cross - Thor Yvan - Arop I realize the second unit is terrible, but they can shoot, and you could basically just greenlight Burke every possession when he comes in. Mack has earned enormous minutes so easily would literally just spell him a couple here and there. What could that hurt? I really, really, don't like Mack/Green/Burke/Cheatham on the court at the same time on either end of the court. It might be our most effective lineup right now, but that doesn't mean we've found our most effective lineup. After seeing both Arop and Kavas play and hearing about how great of a kid Arop is, you can't tell me he isn't every bit as valuable right now as Kavas. Arop at the 5 might sound crazy, but he is an ultra athlete and could at least make an opposing 5 sprint around every play. He's also a serviceable three point shooter. Again, this would just be until Stevenson joins, then I'd put him at the 4-5 with Yvan off of the bench for Cross.
