  1. Teddy drew that double team because he was dominating in iso. Dominating in iso is also part of Fred’s offense because it is a pro 5-out look. If you can take your man off the dribble, you’ll probably have room. If they double, you pass until the defense can’t rotate. I think Teddy finding his rhythm in the half court was the difference in the game.
  2. His timing throws me off watching on television so I can only imagine how wonky he would be to guard.
  3. Two terrible foul calls against Shamiel.
  4. Hell of a game from my dude Shamiel.
  5. Interesting lineup w Banton, Webster, Shamiel, Trey, Yvan. I like it—skilled and beefy.
  6. There we go Kobe. His shots are going to fall more and more as the year goes on. He has legit offensive skills and a nice crafty scoring game.
  7. Hasn’t done a ton, but I’ve liked Yvan’s contribution tonight do far. Way more controlled.
  8. Need some points from Banton and Lat down the stretch.
  9. May he escape the Oedipal talons of the overbearing matriarch.
  10. Honestly, I kind of liked that he was pissed off playing mop up duty. I wasn't happy about it either. I want to see him run with Banton, Trey, Teddy, Lat/Thor (I still like Thor better as a 4). I think he'll be really really good in that kind of complementary role.
  11. Shamiel's efficiency around the rim--not just his dunks, but his high-level finishes--are one of the reasons I want him on the court more. He's also a sneaky good defender with a ton of length. His body is going to be very valuable for us in conference games. Teddy hasn't been as efficient as we'll need him to be going forward, but he's also been able to manufacture points when we really needed them. Defensively, while he does come up empty on defense sometimes, we also have so much darn length and quickness with the rest of our roster that they can really fill gaps. I said last year that we'll see Doc's coaching ability show up once we have power 5 athletes on the court, and boy has it ever. They really, really play for each other on the defensive end. I believe they'll have some intense coaching on rebounding prior to our next game. As demonstrated above, the offense and defense are both being run correctly. I can see why Fred likes this team so much. I'm sure Doc is head over heels for the defensive effort. I have the feeling they'll make us proud regardless of the W/L outcome this season.
  12. I vividly remember that segment. It was insane. It solidified my previously subtle beliefs.
  13. I like our spacing. I don’t think perimeter shooting is a team strength. It’s not bad, but we don’t have quite enough firepower to live outside the lane like Fred wants us to yet. That said, I’ve been very impressed with Banton, Teddy, Trey, and Shamiel’s ability to score at the basket in isolation. I’m wondering if we’re going to adjust to getting to the rim more as a team default/identity. It sure helped us pull away today. Defensively we are so improved it’s scary. Our rebounding will improve as our depth returns, but we have dominated the turnover battle in the first three games.
  14. Agree we need rebounds. That’s another reason I want Shamiel in more. I’d split their minutes.
  15. I love Thor. We need a bigger body who can actually score at the rim until our big man depth returns. We’re gonna need players who want to get theirs. I have no problem with that. Teddy has been given the green light to shoot the ball. I have no problem with how he’s played so far. I’d have Thor in the entire game against zone defenses. I like what Shamiel brings against m2m.
  16. I’m still waiting for Shamiel to get some more of Thor’s minutes.
  17. Yep. That was pretty evident yesterday. I actually think the most important piece for offensive flow is going to be Wilhelm. His ability/instincts passing from the post will work wonders, and he’ll have enough of an inside game to be a threat in the lane. Having Bryce will help immensely in games like yesterday. No one is going to be able to guard him straight up.
  18. I wouldn’t rip too much on Teddy. He was the only one scoring during our comeback, and they were gritty points. He had no help outside of Banton. He didn’t shoot well, but he was aggressive getting to the line.
  19. Thor was bad on both ends today. He may end up just being a zone buster on this team. He can’t defend guards. Lat was softish on the boards. Banton needs to go to the rack against tall defenders as a default. He can get in at will and draw help if he doesn’t score. Kobe and Shamiel are making serious cases to start. Trey didn’t show up offensively but he willed us back into the game on defense. Can’t fault him for this one. Teddy was abysmal in the first half but I think he’s figuring out how to manufacture his points at this level. The team was too unselfish when open. Shoot the friggin ball when you catch it in rhythm. Fred was losing his mind on those plays. Yvan was Yvan. We know what we have there. Bottom line: if you can’t get a stop or a friggin rebound, the system can’t thrive. It didn’t help that the refs manufactured a comeback for Nevada. There were some insane calls. I really think that was the difference. I thought we defended very well in the second half and got screwed for it.
  20. Unbelievably bad officiating. Worse than I’ve ever seen at PBA. Zebras stole this one. I’m as critical as anyone but there’s only so much you can do when the opposing PG is guaranteed two free throws every play.
  21. Didn’t know Shamiel can play the 3, 4, and 5 and also guard the opposing point guard. He’s super duper versatile. Everyone else is as advertised, but he’s special too. Nice spark from him.
