Actually, close is not going to cut it as that means we are below .500 and no postseason. With the loss to GW and assuming a win over Southern this team needs to win 9 regular season Big Ten games to position themselves for the NIT. That loss to GW really was a back breaker.

Miles Just Punched His Ticket Today

I'm not even sure if it's that....it was balls cold outside, many are travelling for the Holiday's, the students are on break. This is not just a Nebraska thing. I went to the Creighton game Saturday night and it was dead. They don't announce the official numbers as far as I know but I doubt there was more than 10K at the game. And they are a top 10 team that has a coach that has put a fun style together. We are a bad, boring team. -

I can agree with this. Obviously Miles is not being let go before seasons end. And even then he may not be let go. This is really tough to read. Barring a disaster Big Ten season I think Miles deserves another year. But, I don't think anybody really knows what Eichorst will do. -

I don't agree that this bad loss sealed the deal for Miles. But are you thinking there is no chance Miles is let go after years end? -
10 wins? Beating the likes of Penn St and Rutgers(maybe)...should not give us warm and fuzzies. Not sure if there is a set number but Miles is definitely in trouble IMO.
-
Are we sure it's complete BS? I would say his future at Nebraska is very cloudy at this point. In fact, if I'm Miles I'm not feeling good about being Nebraska's coach next year.

Miles one clunker of the year so far. Three minutes to overcome -

No Watson? Mmmmkay -
Not necessarily a three point specialist as I think most see him as more than that eventually. But he came in as someone that was known as a shooter in high school. In limited action he has struggled on that end but obviously it's defense that has him on the bench. I just don't think it's wise to bank on a freshman. We have seen the struggles Roby and Horne have gone thru early on. No banking on Nana will be that three point specialist we are missing. But we can bring it up again when he's actually on campus.
-
Hope you're right. Obviously, under this staff his defensive abilities will dictate whether he plays or not. I'll be happy if he's above 35% from deep next year.
-
Nana looks like a good prospect. But Dimes is right. If we are counting on Nana to be that three point shooter we are missing we will likely be disappointed again. Some said the same about Horne coming into the season and he's not really in the rotation at this point. We will likely have some attrition again at years end. Finding a 5th year transfer that can hit a jumper would be nice.

Can't speak for Coz but I'm guessing he's also including the last few years in his thoughts. And by his own admission Miles thought we would be a game or two ahead of where we are at now. The Clemson game could have very easily swung the other way and had that happened most would say we are sitting in good position despite Creighton running circles around us again and our offense looking well...offensive. The Big Ten is not great this year and we matchup well against quite a few of the opponents on our schedule. I look forward to seeing if this team progresses and can come away with 8-10 wins.
-
Sorry for the confusion, but I wasn't saying I'm upset by our record. I predicted 8-4 in the non-conference with a loss to Dayton....so we are not far off from where I thought we would be. My post really doesn't have anything to do with our record but more so our very mediocre offensive output up to this point. Which has been a trend for as long as I can remember. It's true we have played a very difficult schedule. But for the most part, that's not going to change come Big 10 season. I know this is stating the obvious but we have to be far better on that end to get where Miles and the fans want this program.
-
No doubt AWIII would have helped big time on the offensive end. But, I think our issues on that end run deeper than just one player. The schedule obviously comes in to play when looking at our overall stats. But, we are going to face good teams and defenses in the Big 10. If we hover around 40% from the field against good teams we are not going to win very many games. Vs Dayton we shot the ball very well....outside of that, against the rest of the high major teams we are shooting a combined 36% from the field and 21% from deep. Hopefully as the young guys continue to get their feet wet those numbers improve but it hasn't been pretty thus far.
-
I think Coach Miles actually does a great job developing talent. My main concern still is....1. Do we have enough talent and 2. Why are we still offensively challenged? Those two questions obviously can go hand in hand. We are still a few missing pieces away on this roster IMO. And, hopefully Miles can keep some of the key pieces we have right now around. But, even with the above I think this team can still be successful in the Big Ten this year.
-
I think you are referring to Alec Burks. Trey Burke was a PG at Mich. I thought we looked pretty bad vs Creighton. But, that's going to happen from time to time this year with a young roster. I'm all for Isaiah starting as I think getting him more minutes will be crucial for the future but he, like many of our other guys is having trouble putting the ball in the hoop. But, I would love to see us come out with Watson, Tai, Roby, Morrow, Jordy the next two games before conference play.

Find a way to go .500 in Big 10 play and see where the chips fall. That probably doesn't get us into the tournament without some wins in the Big 10 tourney but it alteast will give us a chance.
